The shredding process has not been sufficiently investigated for the design of better, energy and material saving shredding machines. In connection with present-day concern about the environment, ecology, energy saving, recycling, and finding new sources of energy, we need to look at the design of shredding machinery, the efficiency of the machines that we using, and ways of improving them to save electric energy for their operation. This paper deals with sizing and designing shredding machines from the point of view of energy consumption and optimization for specific types of processed material.

The paper considers the issues of reducing the energy intensity of transportation at opencast mining enterprises, the relevance of which has now increased due to the rise in the cost of fuel and energy resources. It presents the study results concerning the cost structure of the electricity consumed by electric mine transport, which form the basis for the development of technical and operational measures to reduce the energy intensity of the transportation process. It is shown that the work to reduce the electricity consumption for mined rock transportation should be aimed at: Reduction of losses in the power circuits of the traction rolling stock due to the use of more advanced electric rolling stock and regulation of the degree of utilization of the installed traction power; Introduction of new contact materials for electrical circuits with the lowest possible resistivity, including for current collector plates; Introduction of measures to reduce energy consumption for power supply of auxiliary circuits; Development and implementation of rational train control techniques. The introduction of energy-saving measures should include the development and application of effective methods for calculating individual norms of energy consumption and incentives for energy saving of the employees involved in the organization of the transportation process.

Electric energy consumption shares a great portion of commercial building energy. Electric energy saving is essential to reduce total energy consumption in commercial buildings. To draw energy saving methods, it is necessary to monitor real energy consumption patterns and analyze the results. We monitor the lighting and non-lighting energy consumption of eleven zones in a real working office building every fifteen minutes during eleven months. We observe and analyze the monthly and daily energy consumption patterns of all zones and draw several feasible energy saving methods. Moreover, the lighting and occupancy are monitored simultaneously in detail to investigate the unnecessary energy consumption. It shows the possibility of a great amount of energy saving. Because we analyze the energy consumption patterns in all zones, the drawn energy saving methods are applicable to the current building with some added infrastructure and expandable to other similar office buildings. Our result is expected to contribute to reducing the energy consumption in buildings.

Central air-conditioning energy consumption accounts for a large proportion of the buildings. And cold and heat source energy consumption accounts for about two-thirds of central air-conditioning system. For a research and development center in Shanghai, because cold and heat source capacity largely surpasses the actual demand, we propose to combine with cold sources of the two buildings. We call it "two-in-one" reconstruction. When cooling load is small, we use cold source in one building to support the two buildings. After implementation, by return on investment analysis, the average electric energy-saving rate is 9.6%. Investment can be recovered within one year.

Most of the territory of the Russian Federation is located in the zone of long-term exposure to negative ambient temperatures. In this regard, in the suburban traffic on the railways of the Russian Federation, a significant proportion of the electric power falls on the operation of heating and air conditioning systems. Nowadays, Russia and the world are developing energy-saving methods and tools to reduce the energy consumption of auxiliary needs of electric trains. In this paper, the method of constructing simulation models in the MATLAB Simulink software was used to build an energy-saving heating and air conditioning system, since this method allows studying various options for building the studied systems with lower financial and labor costs in comparison with the experimental method. The correct selection and display of the parameters of the electric train interior will allow achieving the optimal values of energy consumption for heating and air conditioning of the electric trains. In order to verify its adequacy, the simulation model includes standard values of electric energy consumption for heating and conditioning electric trains for various sections and operating conditions, which were obtained earlier during the correlation and regression analysis of data from electric train parameter recorders. The results of the study showed the adequacy of the application of the developed simulation model for organizing the control of electric power consumption for heating and air conditioning of DC electric trains.

With the rapid development of the construction industry, people pay more and more attention to the huge energy consumption of buildings. To promote energy-saving design is the only way to improve the present situation. The electric lighting accounts for 15% ~25% of the total consumption of buildings, which directly affect the effect of energy saving. Therefore, to promote energy-saving design of the electric lighting, such as using natural light, using efficient energy-saving light source, using reasonable lighting system, using efficient lighting control system decreasing the invalid energy consumption of the electric lighting system itself and so on is really the key to decrease the energy consumption level of buildings.

Variable speed drive (VSD) is used not only for controlling the speed but also for saving the electric energyconsumption. In this research VSD is applied to 3 phase squirrel cage induction motor used for water pumping inthe industry. VSD is needed to be applied to induction motors because these motors are the largest electricconsumed. Measurement and calculation are performed in the two conditions, before and after attaching VSD inthe motor. Electric quantities are obtained by measurement in the input and in the output of VSD. While energyconsumption and consumption cost are obtained by calculation. Finally, calculation of energy saving and costsaving are perfomed by comparing those two conditions. Aplication of VSD in the induction motor has advantagesfor saving electric energy consumption dan making it last longer. The energy saving and cost saving per year result1.003.984,8 kWh and IDR 732.908.904 respectlively. The longer life is caused by reduction of energy consumption.

Audit of Electrical Energy at the Regional House of Representatives of the Tojo Una-Una District is a comprehensive method in examining energy use in a building to find the value of Energy Consumption Intensity (IKE) and Energy Saving Opportunities (PHE) that can be obtained to reduce energy waste so that the consumption of electrical energy is more effective and efficient. The audit of Electrical Energy is carried out according to SNI 03-6196-2000 concerning Energy audit procedures in buildings and the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia Number 13 of 2012 concerning Savings Electricity Consumption. The results of the evaluation of the Energy Consumption Intensity Calculation conducted at the Office of the Regional House of Representatives of Tojo Una-Una District known that there are 16 rooms with the criteria for the Energy Consumption Intensity (IKE) value, namely an office building with air conditioning has efficient enough 8 rooms, wasteful 3 rooms and based on office buildings without Air-conditioning is quite efficient in 3 rooms and wasteful in 2 rooms. The results of Energy Saving Opportunities (PHE) that have been identified by using air conditioning and energy-saving lamps, reducing hours of use without reducing the quality of service in the office can save electricity consumption of 2.339,5165 kWh/month or save electricity bill payments of IDR. 3.379.899,60/month.

Energy situation in Malawi is continuing facing critical challenges to satisfy the existing demand. However, energy consumption and energy conservation studies have been neglected to help overcome this problem. In this paper, electric energy audit was conducted for a commercial building in Mchinji, Malawi, in order to identify energy-saving opportunities. The study employed a mixed method research which involved a series of surveys, observation, data collection, and analysis. The current energy consumption was determined and compared with the proposed energy consumption after replacing some equipment. The proposed system saved up to 33.46% of energy. The study also suggested behavior change towards energy saving. Additionally, an alternative energy system was also suggested. Thus, the HOMER software was employed to design, optimize, and analyze a solar-battery-grid-connected energy system. The proposed system has a simple payback period of 9.8 years. The system’s cost of energy was estimated as 0.0372 $/kWh, and the capital cost was $ 150,887.
