This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. Needs analysis for vocational high school English course is important because English course for vocational high school is considered too general compared to the target situation that the students will need in their future career. This study aimed to analyse the students’ teachers’, alumni’s, stakeholders’, and expert’s perceptions to explain the vocational high school civil engineering students’ needs in their English course. This study used a qualitative case design by using open questionnaires and in-depth interviews as the methods of collecting data. The findings showed that the main goal of the English course was to prepare the students to face the needs of English in their target situation. The learning approach needed was a scientific approach by using inquiry or discovery learning. The students needed more learning source which involved the target situation and a course which considered their current English proficiency. Finally, the students needed a course set that represented the target situation and teachers who were not only experts in pedagogical competence but also ESP. The results of the study can be used by the education practitioners to help them design better course for vocational high school civil engineering students.

Entrepreneurial Intention was intensively examined within the research on entrepreneurship, but the results were diverse. The research was mostly focused on a non-engineering student. The inspiration for this paper was provided by (Law & Breznik, 2017) and (Karabulut, 2016) and its main goal is to determine the factor that pushes undergraduate students towards success in business and allows them to develop their entrepreneurial intention. This research is intended to ascertain the impact of innovativeness (Innov) and need for achievement (Nach) on entrepreneurial intention based on attitude towards entrepreneurship show among vocational high-school students having an extended curriculum in engineering. The examined sample was composed of 338 students of vocational high school (SMK) in an Indonesian District offering some extended courses in engineering. The adopted research methodology was of descriptive and correlational nature, with a quantitative method and a path analysis utilizing Lisrel 9.30. It was found that the need for achievement (Nach) and innovativeness (Innov) exert some significant indirect influence on entrepreneurial intention based on the attitude towards entrepreneurship, while the need for achievement (Nach) has lower direct influence on entrepreneurial Intention.

This research was aimed at developing and validating English learning materials for students of computer network engineering of Vocational High School (VHS) at peripheral city of Indonesia. This study followed the Research and Development (R&D) method. It involved three experts in the field of English instruction, ten students and one English teacher of Vocational High School (VHS) Teladan Metro, Lampung which was considered as a peripheral part of Indonesia. The research data were drawn from questionnaire distributed to the students, an interview conducted to the English teacher, and the developed materials which had been validated by the experts. The findings of the research show: (1) the development of English learning materials for computer networking should be centred around the students learning needs; (2) a prompting visuals aspect and a clear map of the course book are what make the developed course book more acceptable, and (3) experts validation of the developed course book enhances its readability and acceptability. It is recommended that English teachers of VHS would design their own supplementary learning materials as the nation-wide use materials might not cover all of the students learning needs.
