This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. The developing materials were validated by two experts.

This study aims to develop English reading materials needed by students of Vocational School and develop English reading materials for students of Audio Video Program based on Contextual Teaching and Learning. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. It was conducted in SMK N 1 PercutSei Tuan, especially grade X. The data were gathered by administering interview and distributing questionnaire to 23 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English for Audio Video program.The average scores are the first from English lecturer and the second from English teacher. It means that the developing materials categorized as suitable or approriate for grade X of Audio Video program. Key words: Research and Development (R & D), reading materials, Audio Video Program.

Monopoly is one of the games that can be applied as a learning media. Modifications of this media were applied so this game intended to informed teacher about students’ cognitive ability and to increase students’ learning stimulus acceptance. The aim of this research was to develop modified monopoly game as learning media on endocrine system. The research was held at Senior High School 1 Jakarta using research and development method. Need assessment, product development, and try-out and revision were the steps in this research. In the try-out and revision step, media expert and material expert were involved as the assessors, meanwhile Biology teacher, and students grade XI at Senior High School 1  Jakarta were performed as the media user. After the whole try out process, the product received the lowest score was 72,67%, and the highest was 94,63%. And the average score was 85,66% that achieved a very good interpretation. The result of this research showed that the modified monopoly game could be utilized as one of learning media on Endocrine System at Senior High School grade XI science.

This study concerns on how reading text are developed for vocational school. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) design. It was started from collecting the data, analyzing data, designing course grid, designing new reading material by using Scientific Approach, validating by experts, and revising for final product. The new reading material contained of five stages namely; observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating. The source of data of this study was the grade X students of Computer Engineering and Networking Program at SMKS Taman Siswa Medan consisting 24 students. Instrument of collecting data were observation, questionnaire, and interview. After analyzing data, the researcher got the students’ need in learning English in term of vocation that they have. The interview and questionnaire result proved that the students need English reading materials which contain English for Computer Engineering and Networking program. The materials which were developed were focused on descriptive text. The product had been validated by the experts. The average scores are 3,4 both from English teacher and English lecturer. The main problem of this study was “What are students of the Vocational School of Computer Networks need in learning English?” and “How is the development of supplementary English materials for reading skill?” The objective aimed at describing the development of supplementary reading materials for the tenth-grade vocational school based on the 2013 curriculum. The subject was the computer networks students in grade tenth in the 2015/2016 academic year consisting of twenty-two students (five males and 17 females). This research used R & D (Research and Development) method. The data were gathered from a number of sources, including students’ need analysis of English reading materials in grade X in the students’ book of 2013 curriculum, supplementary development of the English reading materials for computer networks students, and expert validation of supplementary English reading materials and students’ response after used the supplementary English materials. The findings showed that more than 30% of students were difficult to read the computer networks text and to understand the meaning of the text. The result of students’ book analysis was none of the reading materials appropriate for computer networks department, mostly provided General English. In developing the supplementary English reading materials for computer networks students, there were four stands, in which the current research only applied three out of the four stands, including define, design and developed. This supplementary English reading material helped the computer networks students to learn English based on their need.

This study was aimed to develop a game called “Scrabble Kimia” as a learning media in Petroleum topic for senior high school grade XI. This study used the research and development (R D)  type with the 4-D model. This 4-D model has four steps of research, they are define, design, develop, and disseminate. This study was limited only on validity and practicality tests. Data collecting was done by using questionnaires. Validity test used validation questionnaires by four experts, which is two chemistry lectures of the State University of Padang and two chemistry teachers of SMAN 1 Lengayang. Practicality test used practicality questionnaires by two chemistry teachers and 27 students of SMAN 1 Lengayang. Data analyzing used was kappa cohen formula. The result of this study showed that this media has 0,93 validity value with very high category of validity. The result of practicality by chemistry teachers has 0,88 practicality value with very high category of practicality, and practicality by students has 0,70 practicality value with high category of practicality. In conclusion, “Scrabble Kimia” that has been developed is valid and practice for using as a learning media in petroleum topic for senior high school grade XI.

The Objective of this research were: (1) To develop ERM to meet the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan, (2) To Design ERM which is suitable to the needs of second grade of dressmaking students at SMKN 10 Medan. The subjects were the eleventh year students of dressmaking department at SMKN 10 Medan. The study was a Research and Development (R & D) study which is adapted from Borg and Gall (1983). This research were conducted by six phases, they are, Gathering information and data, Analyzing data, Designing new reading materials, Validating new reading materials, Revising new reading materials, Revised-developing reading materials. The Instruments for collecting the data were 30 questionarries need analysis and interview students, teacher and practitioner. The results from the data were the students need authentic material which related and appropriate to their need in order they can understand English well. The developed materials were validated by two experts, one is a lecture and the other is a teacher. The validator scored 4 creteria. The research findings showed that the developed materials were appropriate to be implemented. The average score of validation was 4,72 (lecture score) and 4,75 (teacher score). Based on the results of the study, conclusion and suggestions are directed to the teachers and institution who are teaching in SMKN 10 Medan generally to create and to develop the materials based on students need.

This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of Senior High School in SMAN 10 Medan. The objectives of this study is to develop the English reading materials for students of SMAN 10 Medan which represent the characteristics of their sociocultural environment. The research was conducted at SMAN 10 Medan. The research procedures of this study were Research and Development (R & D) that were done through three phases: 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) materials design, and 3) materials Validation. The instruments used in this research were a documentary sheet, questionnaire sheet, and interview sheet. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed by using descriptive technique and the data from expert judgment results were analyzed using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study was a coursebook of local content-based reading materials which consist of 3 genres: recount genres, descriptive genres, and narrative genres, in which each genre consists of 2 texts complete with the tasks or exercises. Based on the experts� judgment results, the score was 87.06 which belonged to good category based on Dirgeyasa (2011), since the range is (70-89).

This study aimed to develop English reading materials needed for students of Cerdas Murni Islamic Junior High School through Authentic Material Approach (AMA).The objective of this study was to develop relevant English reading materials to the needs of Cerdas Murni Islamic Junior High School students especially eight grade . This study was conducted by Research and Development (R&D) design through six phases: 1) Collecting data, 2) Analyzing data, 3) Developing new materials, 4) Validating product 5) Revising materials, 6) final product. The data of this research were from the existing materials, syllabus,  students’ questionnaire, and the teachers’ interview. The result of this research showed that the existing materials were not suitable to the Islamic school students’ needs.. Therefore, new English reading materials were developed through Authentic Material Approach (AMA) principles in order to meet the Islamic students’ needs. Furthermore, developing English reading materials were recount text. Recount text expose personal recount “Tarawih Changed his Life and the biographical recounts of Prophet Muhammad SAW and Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi”. The English reading materials were validated by English teacher and English lecturer. This study concerns on how reading text material are developed for vocational school. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The subject of this research was class XI SMK N 10 Medan consisting of 22 students. Instrumentations for collecting data were questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the researcher got the students’ need in learning English in term of vocation that they have. The data were gathered by administering interview and distributing questionnaire to 25 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English for cosmetology major. Thus, developing materials were procedure text. The developed teaching material were related to the vocation that the students had; it was beauty major. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4,25 from English subject teacher and 4,17 English lecturer. It means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for students of beauty major grade XI.
