Article is devoted quality, production and use of prewilted silage as a best kind of ensilage forage. In a review the forage names are considered. According to the theory of operationalism in 60s years of last century there was introduced a term “haylage”, and in 2010 and 2014 in Belarus (СТБ 1223), and then in the Russian Federation (ГОСТ Р 55986) the term “prewilted silage”. In Germany the prewilted silage (“Spitzensilage”, “Topsilage”) is considerd as a main kind of forage for cows, yielding 10000 L milk pro year. Now the annual volume of prewilted silage production in the Russian Federation exceeds 10 million tons. In some books published last years the information on a chemical composition and nutritive value of prewilted silage produced in the Vologda region and Udmurtiya Republic is reported. Mainly the article is devoted analysis of these data, examples of different quality prewilted silage are given, progressive methods for preparation of a highly nourishing forage are recommended. Foreign and domestic prices on fodder analyses are pointed out. It is recommended to improve system of a forage quality evaluation and use in an animal feeding formula.

The history of battles in Gdańsk Pomerania in 1945 was shaped by Soviet historiography. Relying on the source material from the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the article presents the operational activities of Soviet armoured units in the outskirts of Gdynia. Of great importance for the course of the fights for Gdynia was the battle in Reda-Łeba Glacial Valley. On March 6, 1945, the units of the 2nd Belorussian Front began a rapid offensive and quickly seized Sławno, Słupsk and Lębork. Despite the high speed of the offensive, the Soviets did not manage to destroy the retreating German forces. Basing on a system of anti-aircraft defense posts, German 2nd Army units managed to stop the Soviet attack at Wejherowo and Rumia. The thopographical characteristics of Gdańsk Pomerania had a strong influence on the fights. The course and effects of the battle in the Reda-Łeba Glacial Valley forced the command of the 2nd Belorussian Front to reconsider the previous operational assumptions. As consequence of the Soviet failure in the Reda-Łeba Glacial Valley, Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky ordered to send additional forces to fight for Gdynia. For the sake of propaganda, the Polish 1st Armoured Brigade of the Heroes of Westerplatte was also engaged in the battle, which came at a price of heavy casualties.

Essential oil plants can heal our environment by destroying pathogens. They are especially in demand in resort areas where a large number of sanatoriums and recreation areas are situated. The creation of highly decorative varieties of pelargonium with pronounced phytoncidal properties is one of the priority areas of breeding research with representatives of the genus Pelargonium L`Herit. ex Ait at the All-Russian Institute of Floriculture and Subtropical Crops. According to the results of varietal studies and hybridological analysis of interspecific crossbreeding progenies, the sources of selection significant and important features were distinguished. From a large number of hybrids, we received 32 promising and 9 elite forms. There are five registered varieties of pelargonium with the rose-citrus aroma in the State Register of the Russian Federation. P. crispum, P. citronellum, Р. tomentosum, Р. сordifolium and fragrant pelargonium ‘Gemstone’ are recommended as source material for aroma selection.
