This paper aims to demonstrate that information activates the desire flows and makes the urban transformation machine work. It focuses on understanding how urban transformation currently works as a Deleuzian machine, rather than focusing on how it is implemented. The main focus is to map the trajectory of the word flows through the narratives. First of all technical knowledge flow through media texts and official public statements take their place in the urban transformation process. Technicians and scientists inform that we need to implement the urban transformation process. Then the media starts to glorify the urban transformation process representing how beautiful the new houses are. Finally in informal neighborhoods (which are entitled as gecekondu in Turkish urban system) the word flows transform into rumor flows. These rumor flows, which are ignored during the planning process, channel desire flows, making certain spaces more or less attractive and affect the whole transformation process.

This article discusses the central “ignored” role that women play in disseminating vital societal information through folklore. It explores the limited conceptions and constructions of their roles in literature and the media today where they are confined to housekeeping duties. It argues that through story-telling—the cornerstone of communal revitalisation—women play a pivotal task in ensuring the well-being of their communities. In advancing this argument, the article takes into account the fact that folktales have formed the basis of African formal education and training, which was meant for cognitive development of the African child. The major concern is, despite the tremendous contribution of women into the development, re-engineering and redesigning of the society, women are not taken or taking themselves seriously when it comes to societal decision-making issues. This paper mainly depends on a literature review and qualitative research methodology. A sample of 25 homes was selected randomly in the Bikita District of Masvingo Province in Zimbabwe. Data were collected orally from the story-tellers. Thereafter, an analysis was undertaken to establish the strategic role of women in disseminating information.

Visions of the information city are mainly driven by the economic development potential of new information technology (IT). The role of information systems in community development remains relatively less well explored. The establishment of a municipal information system in Manchester, HOST, aimed directly at small businesses and community groups, provides a rare opportunity for a direct empirical investigation of IT policies for community development. The proposal for ‘electronic village halls’—community IT resource centres—in East Manchester is examined for clues on emerging best practice for such community IT initiatives. It is concluded that current policies which concentrate resources into a few centres are antithetical to the spirit of information network formation, and create barriers to future development in information flows. In addition, policies to develop information networks in the community should be grounded in the interest groups in the urban system. This requires closer coordination between grass-root needs and the agencies which initiate development projects.

SummarySocial norms help to solve collective dilemmas. In addition to the internalization of norms, social control, rational calculation, and rational acceptance, this paper analyzes the role of information in regard to compliance with norms. We predict that people will cooperate if they believe that others will cooperate as well, and that they will defect if they believe that others will defect. Each reaction respresents a rational course of action. Beliefs about the validity of norms are influenced by information, whether public (as obtained from the media) or private (gained from personal experience), with which individuals update their beliefs. Complementing existing explanations of norm compliance, this paper studies the effect on norm compliance of information which allows individuals to adjust beliefs about whether a norm is valid. The empirical findings based on a multilevel analysis of survey data from 24 countries strongly confirm the prediction that collectively held beliefs about the validity of norms are a major factor in determining compliance, comparable in its strength to the internalization of norms.

The role of information and communication in establishing and defining world order formed the basis of a comprehensive call for the New World Information and Communication Order. Many strategic and regional blocs of nations and economic forums have been formed over time. BRICS has made a relatively new attempt in the coming together of several politically, economically and culturally diverse countries. Their summits reflect their intention to work together. By positioning the media system, this brief article looks at the patterns of evolution since New World Information and Communication Order and the comparable aspects of media in these countries. China and India, apart from their membership in BRICS also have historical ties, issues and concerns. Connectivity, as intended in the Belt and Road Initiative, is in a bilateral sense a matter of diplomacy and negotiation. An attempt has been made to contextualise this issue as well.
