The never-ending Work on Concepts – Illustrated with the Concept of ›Mündigkeit‹ A scientific approach to pedagogical topics and questions operates with ›concepts‹ that are somewhat constitutive for its own field of research. These concepts refer to systematic, historically developed relations which are still in the process of becoming. Doing justice to the claim to scientific validity, a critical reflection of the genesis and systematics of the concepts used is presupposed; if it does not happen, a scientific discussion inevitably runs the risk of becoming imprecise – losing its own content. Therefore, a critical reflexion of concepts such as ›Mündigkeit‹ has to be inherent in any scientific work and is to be thought of as the task of a self-reflexive science.

AbstractIn the past, Western academic astronomy has conceived in a very specific way its interests. However, in recent decades there has been a promising openness to the rest of the society, in the context of areas such as education, heritage and outreach. Despite this, there has not been an adequate scientific approach to do it, which would imply taking into account the social sciences and a truly interdisciplinary perspective. Here we want to develop the idea that this interdisciplinary approach already exists and it is called: Cultural Astronomy. Unfortunately, in the context of academic astronomy it has been only seen as a study of the “astronomies of others”, intended as previous stages or failed attempts of Western academic astronomy. We will seek to show that Cultural Astronomy, as a critical reflection on the social character of the astronomical knowledge, is key to the success of these opening efforts.

The purpose of this study was to determine the learning theme thematic integrative network of external (religion and general subject) at Islamic elementary schools, the thematic learning network in integrative and internal manner (fiqh, tarih, aqeedah, akhlaq and qur’an hadith), the effectiveness of thematic integrative learning internally and externally at Islamic elementary schools by using a scientific approach. The studyused a qualitative approach to the type of Research and Development (R & D) by following the model developed by Dick and Lau Cerey. The results showed that the spread of KDin sub-subjects of Islamic Education in Islamic elementary schools cannot be fitting in any theme of learning that has been prepared by the Ministry of Education. Drafting an integrative internal theme network is difficult because each sub-subject PAI has different hierarchy scientific discussion with other sub-subject PAI. After limited trial, Kn and An (fourth classroom teacher MI Mangunsari Salatiga) stated that she is comfortable andsuitable teaching with that method

A strong national defense system does not require consideration of empathy, including the geographical factors of the country being examined, the national resources of a country, an analysis of possible threats that will arise, and the development of information technology. Defense is something that is fundamental to the survival of a country. Cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in the defense industry is centered on the development of the changbogo class submarine and the development of the KFX / IFX fighter aircraft. Seen from the Government's policy, it can be seen that the domestic industry is unprepared to support the independence of the defense industry. This unpreparedness can be caused by the absence of supporting infrastructure or financial support for mass production of defense and security equipment. This scientific work is expected to provide recommendations in defense policy regarding submarine development. This study uses a scientific approach with qualitative descriptive methods and uses implementation tehory by George C. Edward. The results of this study a policy review of South Korea’s Submarine purchase policy . The conclusion of this study are constraints and challenges faced in improving submarines, particularly related to the ability of PT. PAL Indonesia is still limited in the manufacture of the DSME 209/1400 submarine.

Abstract:. Implementation of the 2013 Curriculum essentially sets out three main things, namely the application of integrated thematic learning, the use of scientific approaches to learning, and authentic assessment. Some of the results of previous research on the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum, among others, found that teachers were less able to utilize learning resources from the surrounding environment and teachers tended to maintain conventional teaching habits. For this reason, through this study, researchers want to describe how teachers understand scientific approaches; how the teacher exposes the learning implementation plan; how the teacher applies the scientific approach to learning, and whether there is a contribution between the understanding of the scientific approach to the application of learning carried out by the teacher. The research method used is the Mixed Method Research model 'Embedded Design'. The results obtained from this study can be concluded that: (1) In general, teachers have understood the scientific approach, but have not understood how to implement this approach in learning in elementary schools; (2) Learning Implementation Plans (RPP) made by the teacher have not described learning activities oriented to the scientific approach; (3) Implementation of the implementation of learning carried out by the teacher has not reflected the application of the scientific approach; (4) Understanding the scientific approach contributes 10% to the implementation of learning. Therefore, being able to apply a scientific approach is not only determined by understanding, but it requires the efforts of teachers to always seek other knowledge that can add to and improve self-efficacy Keyword: scientific approach, thinking skills and scientific work, Mixed method research embedded models Abstrak: Implementasi Kurikulum 2013 pada intinya menetapkan tiga hal utama, yaitu penerapan pembelajaran tematik terpadu, penggunaan pendekatan saintifik dalam pembelajaran, dan penilaian autentik.

In his vast body of social scientific work, Charles Tilly made two fundamental contributions to our understanding of the development of the modern state. First, rather than developing naturally out of collective life or as the result of constitution making, Tilly argued that states grew out of war and preparations for war. In a second part of his work, he saw state development intersecting with changes in contentious politics—at a minimum through the action of social movements within civil society, and at a maximum through revolution. The first part of Tilly's work is best known in political science, particularly in international relations and the study of the state, while the second is better known in sociology. However, Tilly never attempted to bring the two major strands of his work together. Bridging war, states, and contention is the goal of this essay, which begins “with Tilly,” proceeds to a critical reflection “contra Tilly,” and concludes by going “beyond Tilly” to attempt a Tillian analysis of the effects of America's post-9/11 wars on the American state and on contentious politics.

The usage of concepts in scientific communication is critical to our ability to inform the reader about work that has been performed. The significance and thus the quality of scientific discussion rely on the precise use of concepts. In this second part of a two-part paper, concerning the scientific basis of polymer fire retardancy, the proper use of concepts is addressed. Distinct concepts in flame retardancy are discussed, such as fire residue, the correlation of fire performance with char yield according to van Krevelen, catalysis, and wicking. Synergy is discussed in detail, as well as approaches to quantify it, due to its importance for flame retardant polymers. The preceding first paper (part 1) discussed the proper use of scientific terms, thermal analysis, and fire testing. Thus, together these two papers support the community by offering recommendations and addressing some of the most relevant points. They encourage to review scientific practice in the field of flame retardancy of polymers.

Abstract Josef Horovitz was one of the most important orientalists of his time. Born in 1874 in Lauenburg (Pommern), he died unexpectedly in 1931 at the age of 57 in Frankfurt am Main, just before the National Socialists came to power. His letters and postcards, written in the years 1930-31 to his disciple Shlomo Dov Goitein, provide information about their relationship but also give a good insight into the differences in the scientific approach between the generations. They are also revealing with regard to Horovitz’ scientific work and his position on the »Jewish question«. It becomes clear that, at that time, Horovitz was working on a commentary on the Koran which he could not finish because of his early death. And as for the »Jewish question«, it shows that he believed in the possibility of a peaceful coexistence between Jews and Arabs in Palestine on the basis of a mutual recognition of interests.

This paper concerns the nature of the archive and the kinds of statements that might be drawn from our interaction with the archive. In the first part, Karl Popper's concept of ‘falsifiability’ is examined, particularly insofar as it features in Nabokov criticism (via Brian Boyd) and in Beckett studies (through Matthew Feldman). Falsifiability brings with it the authority of science, which Feldman uses to challenge certain kinds of Beckett-based orthodoxies – such things as the unquestioned centrality of Descartes to the work, and the (perceived) imprecision of theory-driven readings. One of Feldman's key claims, with regard to the archives of Beckett studies, is that Beckett only read and studied philosophy between 1928–1938. But although his argument begins from empirical evidence, it further develops interpretations based on a reading of this evidence. These interpretations thus involve presuppositions with regard to how Beckett might have worked with or attacked ideas otherwise developed by philosophers. In the second part, a counter-approach to the use of the archive is examined, via the readings that J. M. Coetzee developed in writing his 1969 dissertation, The English Fiction of Samuel Beckett: An Essay in Stylistic Analysis. This example demonstrates both the value and limits of a quantifiable scientific approach to an analysis of the archives (in particular, to Coetzee's use of the methods of stylostatistics) as well as exemplifying how an approach to the archives might generate other benefits (in this case related to Coetzee's own fiction and its extension into the archival space). That is, Coetzee offers different answers to the question of how one might approach the archive and what might thereby be achieved. These answers gave him unquantifiable insights into the writing process and left him with questions he could pursue in his own writings.
