This study aims to analyze the relationship between hemoglobin concentration and maximal oxygen volume in obese women. This study used a cross sectional study method using 40 obese women aged 18-22 years, body mass index 25-35 kg/m2 and percentage body fat above 30%, normal blood pressure, resting heart normal rate and fasting blood glucose below 100 mg / dL. Measurement of Hb concentration using Easy Touch with a unit concentration of g/dL, while VO2max measurement using the Astrand 6-minute cycle test method. Data analysis techniques used the Pearson Correlation test. The results obtained mean Hb (15,365±1,467) g/dL and VO2max (28,635 ± 4,256) ml/kg /min. Based on the results of the study concluded that there is a positive correlation between Hb levels with maximum oxygen capacity in obese women. Further research is needed to explain the physiological mechanism of the relationship between hemoglobin concentration and maximal oxygen volume in more detail

This study used a cross sectional study method using 39 obese women aged 19-22 years old, Body Mass Index (BMI) 25-35 kg / m2 and Percentage Body Fat (PBF) above 30%, normal blood pressure, heart rate normal rest and normal Hemoglobin (Hb). IGF-1 levels were measured using the Enzym Link Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method, while the FBG measurements used ACCU-CHEK® Performance. Data analysis techniques used the Pearson Correlation test with the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The results obtained an average level of IGF-1 (11,530 ± 4,397) ng / mL and an average FBG (90,153 ± 6,659) mg / dL       (r = 0.379) and (p = 0.017). Based on the results of the study, it’s concluded that there is a positive correlation of IGF-1 levels with FBG in obese women. Further research is needed to explain the physiological mechanism of the relation between IGF-1 and FBG in more detail

This study aimed to analyze the relationship of insulin-like growth factor 1 with bone mass in obese female. This study used a cross sectional study method using 30 obese women aged 19-23 years, body mass index (BMI) 25-35 kg / m2, normal blood pressure, normal resting heart rate (RHR), normal hemoglobin (Hb). and fasting blood glucose (FBG) <100 mg / dL. Measurement of IGF-1 levels used the Enzym Link Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Measurement of bone mass using TANITA (Body Composition Analyzer DC3607601 (2) -1604 FA, TANITA Corporation of America, Inc., USA). The data analysis technique used the Pearson product-moment test with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The results showed that mean levels of IGF-1 (1.17 ± 0.10) ng / mL and bone mass (2.49 ± 0.06) kg (r = 0.712, P ≤ 0.001). Our findings suggest that there was a positive correlation between IGF-1 levels and bone mass

Para analizar la relación entre sobrepeso/obesidad, género, ansiedad y estrés se realizó un estudio transversal correlacional en donde participaron 849 adolescentes del norte de México. Los análisis de revelaron que las mujeres con sobrepeso y obesidad presentan mayores niveles de estrés y de ansiedad, así como mayor probabilidad de manifestar ambas condiciones. Se concluye que el género y la obesidad son condiciones de riesgo para la manifestación de estrés y ansiedad. To analyze the relationship between overweight / obesity, gender, anxiety and stress a correlational cross-sectional study was developed, participating 849 teenagers from northern Mexico. The analysis revealed that overweight and obese women have higher levels of stress and anxiety, and that they are more likely to manifest both conditions. It is concluded that gender and obesity are risk conditions for the manifestation of stress and anxiety.

SummaryThis study examined the association between body composition, somatotype and socioeconomic status (SES) in Chilean children and adolescents by sex and school level (grade). The cross-sectional study was conducted on 1168 schoolchildren aged 6–18 years (572 males) from Valparaíso, Chile. Body composition, as assessed by percentage body fat (BF%) and somatotype, was evaluated using Ellis equations and the Heath–Carter method, respectively. The socioeconomic status of respondents was assessed using the ESOMAR survey. Obesity was defined as BF% ≥25 for boys and ≥30 for girls; ‘high endomorph’ somatotype was defined as a somatotype endomorph component (EC) of at least 5.5. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between high adiposity and SES, potential confounding factors and school level. In females, the results indicated that the groups with lower SES had higher EC. At the 1st(youngest) school level (1–4thgrades), males exhibited similar trends in their BF% and EC. High adiposity was associated with the female sex (BF%: OR=3.39; 95% CI 2.60, 4.41; high EC: OR=2.31; 95% CI 1.80, 2.98). In addition, low SES increased the risk of high adiposity compared with high SES (BF%: OR=2.25; 95% CI 1.40, 3.61; high EC: OR=2.19; 95% CI 1.37, 3.47). An association was observed between increased adiposity and lower SES, mainly in females, which indicates that females with low SES might be at greater risk of obesity.

AbstractObjective:To propose an approach for investigation of the relationship between the frequency of carbohydrates intake and dental caries in real-life conditions.Design:The frequency of separate eating events (with the exclusion of lunch and dinner) and their sugars and starch content were assessed on the basis of diaries collected for seven consecutive days. The total number of decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) was assessed through clinical examination. The interrelation between DMFT and frequency of eating events was analysed through Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise forward linear regression analysis.Setting:Italy.Subjects:One hundred and ninety-three students (males and females, mean age 16 years) of a secondary school.Results:Individual DMFT varied between 0 (24% of subjects) and 12, with a mean of 3. Once lunch and dinner were excluded, the mean number of separate eating events was 2.9. A statistically significant relationship was found between DMFT and eating frequency thus defined. Correlations were calculated considering only eating events containing a proportion of sugars or starch higher than different cut-off levels. In a stepwise multiple regression model for DMFT, the frequency of ‘high sugars and high starch events’ accounted for 8% of the DMFT variance. Overall frequency of separate eating events defined according to their content of both sugars and starch accounted for 18% of the DMFT variance. A stronger correlation was found among males only.Conclusions:The precise characterisation of eating events in terms of their sugars and starch content allows us to explain a consistent percentage of the variability in DMFT.

Background & Objective: Effective communication in the nursing profession is not just a personal skill but is accepted as a learned and gained technique in the instructional process. It is possible for nurses to professionally provide effective and quality service with the establishment, development, and transfer to emotion of effective communication with people. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between levels of alexithymia and communication skills of nursing students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among students attending the School of Nursing in a university in Turkey in the 2017-2018 Spring semester. A total of 634 nursing students participated in the study. The data in the study were collected with the “Student Introduction Form”, the “Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS)” and the “Communication Skills Scale (CSS)”. Means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis were used for the analysis. Results: The mean TAS scores of the nursing students were found to be 56.31±8.82, and the students had “moderate alexithymia” based on the average scores of the scale. The mean CSS scores of the nursing students in the study was found to be 91.16±12.99, and the students had “Good level of communication” based on the average scores of the scale. In our study, a negative and moderate correlation between the levels of alexithymia of nursing students and their communication skills was detected (p: 0.001). Conclusion: It was found that as the levels of alexithymia of nursing student increased, their communication skills decreased. How to cite this:Sancar B, Aktas D. Abstract Background and Aims: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index was regarded as a simple surrogate marker of insulin resistance (IR). It is confirmed that IR was significantly associated with hyperuricemia, and obesity was the risk factor for IR and hyperuricemia. However, the relationship between the TyG index and hyperuricemia and the potential role of obesity in Han Chinese hypertension are not entirely elucidated.Methods and Results: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in 4551 hypertension patients aged 40-75 years with clinical and biochemical data. The TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dl) × fasting blood glucose (mg/dl)/2]. Hyperuricemia was determined as serum uric acid ≥357μmol/L (6 mg/dl) for females and ≥417μmol/L (7 mg/dl) for males. The TyG index was higher in patients with hyperuricemia than in those without (8.99±0.61, 8.70±0.59, P<0.001). The prevalence of hyperuricemia in patients with the lowest (≤8.32), second (8.33-8.66), third (8.67-9.07) and the highest quartile (≥9.08) of the TyG index was 6.0%, 10.4%, 15.4%, 21.4%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis suggested that the higher quartile of TyG index was associated with increased hyperuricemia risk whether in crude or adjusted models (P<0.05). Mediation analysis showed that all of our obesity indexes partially mediated the association between the TyG index and hyperuricemia to some extent.Conclusion:TyG index is significantly associated with hyperuricemia in hypertension patients among Han Chinese, obesity plays a partial mediation role in this relationship.

This cross-sectional study aimed to determine ethnic and environmental influences on the relationship between BMI and percentage body fat, using a sample of 144 Japanese and 140 Australian-Caucasian men living in Australia, and eighty-eight Japanese men living in Japan. Body composition was assessed by anthropometry using standard international methods (International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry protocol). Body density was predicted using Durnin and Womersley's (1974) equation, and percentage body fat was calculated from Siri's (1961) equation.Significant (P<0·05) ethnic differences in stature, body mass and BMI were observed between Japanese and Australian men, but no ethnic differences were observed in their percentage body fat and height-corrected sum of skinfold thicknesses. No differences were found in the BMI–percentage body fat relationship between the Japanese subjects living in Australia and in Japan. Significant (P<0·05) ethnic differences in the BMI–percentage body fat relationship observed from a comparison between pooled Japanese men(aged 18–40 years, BMI range 16·6–32·8kg/m2) andAustralians (aged 18–39 years, BMI range 16·1–31·4kg/m2) suggest that Japanese men are likely to havea greater percentage body fat than Australian men at any given BMI value.From the analyses, the Japanese men were estimated to have an equivalent amount of body fat to the Australian men at BMI values that were about 1·5 units lower than those of the Australians (23·5kg/m2 and 28·2kg/m2, respectively).It was concluded that Japanese men have greater body fat deposition than Australian-Caucasians at the same BMI value. Japanese men may therefore require lower BMI cut-off points to identify obese individuals compared with Australian-Caucasian men.
