This study aims to investigate the impact of conservative accounting on corporate performance indicators of Egyptian firms. A sample of balanced data for the 40 most active non-financial companies was collected in the period 2009-2014 to test hypotheses. Panel regression models were used for data analysis. Givoly & Hayn (2000) indicator is used as a benchmark for measuring accounting conservatism. The corporate performance indicators used in this study are return-on-assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) representing accounting performance measures, as well as Tobin’s Q which measures market performance. The results of the research show that accounting conservatism has a significant positive impact on corporate performance indicators. This reflects the positive effect of corporate performance on shareholders that leads to a strong corporate financial position. To the best of our knowledge, no study has been conducted in Egypt as an emerging economy.

7,1%.The paper summarizes findings of a two-year study on the impact of foliar fertilizing with a new generation humic preparation GSN-2004 HUMILIFEтм (ОСН-2004) on the harvest and quality of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ table grapes and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ wine grapes in the conditions of the southern coast of Crimea. The data of the 2017-2018 study established that foliar dressing with the preparation under study in the ratio of 4 l/ha increases the harvest of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ grapes on average by 23.9%, or by 2 t/ha. The yield of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes was increased by 26.5%, thus increasing the harvest by 2.2 t/ha. The positive impact of foliar dressing on quality indicators of ‘Muscat Yantarniy’ grapes was confirmed. Thus, the average cluster weight increased by 40.3%, total sugars in the berry juice increased by 5.4 %, and gluco-acidometric index increased by 158.06 %. The study confirmed the positive effect of foliar dressing on quality characteristics of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes, as demonstrated by a 23% increase in the average cluster weight and a 7.1 % increase in the total sugars in the berry juice.

Using a survey of 300 employees in different types of enterprises and different positions, this study verified that the use of enterprise social media has a positive effect on employees’ work exuberance. The study separately examined the effects of social media applications for work tasks and social tasks. Both types of applications had a positive impact on employees’ work exuberance. The study also identified the mediating role of challenge and obstructive stressors in this relationship. Work-related social media applications enhanced employees’ exuberance by reducing obstructive stressors, and social-related social media applications enhanced employees’ exuberance by reducing challenge stressors. The implications of these findings are that managers should pay attention to the use of enterprise social media, especially for social tasks, as this can enhance employees’ sense of exuberance.

AbstractThis study attempts to identify whether government ownership has an effect on corporate performance, such as Return on Assets (ROA), Price to Book value, and Profits for a sample of 102 listed companies on the UAE stock exchanges and a subsample of 17 banks listed on the same bourses over a period of 31 quarters. In the case of the sample of 102 companies, government ownership has a positive impact on some of the corporate performance indicators, as well in the banking subsample. In addition, the analysis evaluates the impact of state ownership on debt accumulated across the two samples. The results indicate that state ownership reduced the need to accumulate debt in general across the larger sample. However, focusing on banks, state ownership facilitates borrowing and accumulating debt. The results point to the positive effect of state ownership on corporate performance. Further, state ownership eases constraints on banks’ borrowing as it boosts confidence in the outlook, facilitating higher ratings and cheaper sources of funding. In the case of the UAE, similar to some other countries, where there is a strong trend toward government ownership in listed companies and banks, it has a positive effect on their performance for the period 2008–2016, i. e., there is a positive relationship between the block-holder ownership and firms’ performance, subject to efficiency control measures.

Based on 234 survey data of 35 pilot demonstration enterprises in intelligent manufacturing, this paper tested the mediating role of supply chain flexibility in the process of big data capability affecting enterprise performance. The empirical results show that the foundation capability, application capability, and development capability all have a significant positive impact on enterprises performance. Big data foundation capability has a significant positive effect on the supply chain flexibility in terms of product flexibility, logistics flexibility and production flexibility, and it has no significant effect on purchasing flexibility and information flexibility. Both big data application capability and big data development capability have a positive effect on supply chain flexibility. In addition to purchasing flexibility, the other dimensions of supply chain flexibility and supply chain flexibility comprehensive factors all have a mediating effect on the relationship between big data capabilities and firm performance. The conclusions of this study have a positive enlightenment role for enterprises to develop big data capabilities and create a flexible supply chain to meet the needs of the market and customers.

This paper evaluates the impact of rural roads improvement works to benefit indigenous communities in the highlands of Ecuador, largely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. The findings suggest that the program had a positive impact on health and that it increased enrollment in secondary education. We find no evidence that treated households increased their investment in plot improvements and agricultural inputs. However, household members are more likely to report self-employment in agriculture as their main occupation. The effect on agricultural output and sales was positive but not statistically significant. Finally, there is no evidence that the program had any positive effect on overall household income, female empowerment and food security.

This chapter, first, draws an overview of the theoretical and conceptual framework of corporate decisions in the global financial crisis (GFC) context. Then, it shows the connectedness of corporate finance and international trade. Finally, employing a rich dataset, this chapter assesses the impact of international trade as well as the GFC on corporate financial decisions, particularly cash holdings, debt financing, and dividend payouts over the period 2002-2016. The findings show that international trade significantly affects corporate decisions. Firms with higher trade countries have higher debt level but lower cash and dividends across the globe. During the GFC, the positive impact of trade on debt shifts to negative. Also, trade has a positive effect on both cash and debt in the aftermath of the GFC. Taken together, international trade as an institutional setting influences corporate decisions and its role on cash, debt, and dividend differ during and after the GFC.

Nanotechnology represents an opportunity to improve the use of elements in agriculture. Selenium is an element that is beneficial to plants and essential to the human diet. The size of nanoparticles gives them characteristics that can enhance the benefits that selenium provides to plants. The objective of the present study was to determine the effects of selenium nanoparticles on the growth, antioxidant responses, and fruit quality of tomato developed under NaCl stress. Four doses of selenium nanoparticles (1, 5, 10, and 20 mg L−1) under NaCl stress, only NaCl, and a control were evaluated. The results showed that the impact of salinity on the growth of the tomato crop can be reduced with the application of selenium nanoparticles. However, the amount of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic compounds significantly increased in the leaves and fruits of tomato. The results suggest that the application of selenium nanoparticles generated a positive effect against salinity in the tomato crop; moreover, it had a positive impact on the content of beneficial biocompounds for human health in tomato fruits.

One of the primary tasks of supply-side reform is to promote the reform of fiscal and taxation systems. It is an important part of institutional innovation to coordinate fiscal and other reforms. From the perspective of the supply side, this paper discusses whether the adjustment of fiscal and monetary policies will have a positive impact on China’s capital market and economic growth. In this paper, a windows-EBM model is constructed to test the panel data of major economies between 2008 and 2016, discuss their impact on the efficiency of the capital market, and to make a comparative analysis on the strategies to improve the vitality of China’s capital market. We find that the impact of China’s macro policies on capital market efficiency during 2008-2016 shows a huge potential space for adjusting fiscal and monetary policies, because these input factors are obviously interchangeable in China’s supply-side reform. This is in line with the expected direction of China’s supply-side reform. This paper reveals the positive effect of supply-side reform on capital activity. Tax cuts and monetary policy measures are needed to balance capital markets and to ensure their active and sustainable development.
