<p class="5abstractcontent">The objective of the research is to get empirical data concerning the effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension. This research is done by Kolgomorov-Smirnov method, ANOVA Table, Proportional Correct for testing the item difficulties, Biserial Coefficient and Kuder Richarson testing. Samples are taken of the achievable population were 60 students from grade eleven of social and science in section 3 and 4 at SMA Negeri 14 Jakarta. Data collection is conducted by giving test for reading comprehesion, test for vocabulary mastery, and test for grammar. The results show that there are significant effects of vocabulary mastery and grammar mastery altogether towards student’s reading comprehension of X1 grade at state Senior High Schools in West Jakarta. It is proven by the score of Fo = 4,160 dan Sig. = 0,021 &lt; 0, 05. There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery towards student’s reading comprehension as it is proved by the score of to = 2,662 dan Sig. = 0,001 &lt; 0,05. There is a significant effect of grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension as it is proved by the score of to =-0,222 dan Sig. = 0,082 &gt; 0,05</p><p class="5abstractcontent"> </p><strong>Key words:</strong> vocabulary mastery, grammar mastery, reading comprehension

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat penerapan strategi-stategi membaca berdasarkan Genre Based Approach guna menigkatkan pencapaian nilai membaca siswa. penulis melaksanakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan strategi membaca berdasarkan konsep Genre Based Approach yang terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu building context of the text, modeling the text, joint construct of the text, dan independent construction of the text. Strategi-strategi membaca berdasarkan genre based approach diterapkan melalui tiga fase membaca yaitu, pre-reading phase, whilst reading phase, dan post reading phase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi membaca bisa memperbaiki proses belajar dan mengajar membaca. Simpulan ini bisa dilihat dari hasil tes membaca siswa yang menunjukkan peningkatan dari 12, 5% di siklus 1 ke 70, 8% di siklus 2 dan terakhir di siklus 3 menjadi 83, 3%. Penulis juga melakukan pengamatan dengan menggunakan (contreng) checklist terhadap strategi pengajaran dan keaktifan siswa. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan hampir semua siswa suka strategi pengajaran guru dan sebagian besar dari siswa sudah aktif. Hasil angket menunjukkan 90% dari siswa tertarik dengan cara pengajaran guru dan 88% dari siswa  tersebut aktif dalam belajar. Data tersebut juga diperkuat oleh informasi dari wawancara yang direkam terhadap 15 siswa pada tiap siklusnya. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara diketahui bahwa sebagian besar siswa mengatakan mereka tertarik dengan cara guru mengajar dan termotivasi membaca teks berbahasa Inggris Key words: Students’ Reading Comprehension, Genre based approach, Reading Strategies Derived from Genre Based Approach

Abstract Background The outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19) caused psychological stress in Chinese adults population. But we are unaware of whether the pandemic causes psychological stress on children. Methods We used the Children’s Impact of Event Scale questionnaire (CRIES-13) to investigate the degree of Post-traumatic Stress (PTSD) symptoms caused by the pandemic in students selected from schools in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan, and Chongqing provinces of China. Results A total of 7769 students(3692 male and 4077 female), aged 8–18 years, were enrolled in the study, comprising 1214 in primary schools, 2799 in junior high schools and 3756 in senior high schools. A total of 1639 students (21.1%) had severe psychological stress reactions. A large proportion of senior high school students (23.3%) experienced severe psychological stress, and they had the highest median total CRIES-13 score. Female students were more likely to experience severe psychological stress and had higher median CRIES-13 total scores than males. Conclusion COVID-19 has placed psychological stresses on primary and secondary school students in China. These stresses are more likely to reach severe levels among female students and senior high school students.

<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This research aimed to improve reading comprehension of public senior high school students by using Experience-Text-Relationship method. The research was done in two cycles and involved 31 eleventh-grade students of a public senior high school in SimpangDua, Ketapang in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. The researcher used observation field notes and reading tests to collect data of the study. A collaborator was involved during the observations and practices to build trustworthy of the study. The data from the observation field notes were analyzed qualitatively and the data from the reading test results were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The analysis of the observation field notes shows that the students became active and polite, had high enthusiasm in the teaching and learning processes. The analysis of the reading test results also reveals that the students had improved their reading comprehension. In conclusion, Experience-Text-Relationship method can improve the students’ reading comprehension.</p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Abstrak</em></strong></p><p><em>Penelitian bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa SMA negeri menggunakan metode Experience-Text-Relationship. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua siklus dan melibatkan 31 siswa kelas sebelas siswa di salah satu SMA negeri di SimpangDua, Kabupaten Ketapang pada Tahun Akademik 2018/2019. Peneliti menggunakan catatan lapangan observasi dan tes membaca untuk mengumpulkan data penelitian. Seorang kolaborator dilibatkan selama pengamatan dan praktik untuk membangun penelitian yang dapat dipercaya. Data dari catatan lapangan observasi dianalisis secara kualitatif dan data dari hasil tes membaca dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Analisis catatan observasi lapangan menunjukkan bahwa siswa menjadi aktif dan sopan, memiliki antusiasme yang tinggi dalam proses belajar-mengajar. Analisis hasil tes membaca juga mengungkapkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan pemahaman membaca siswa. Kesimpulannya, metode </em>Experience-Text-Relationship <em>dapat</em><em> membantu meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.</em></p>

<p>En 1998 se inicia el desarrollo de la investigación: "Situación de la enseñanza de la filosofía en la Educación Diversificada de Costa Rica", N° 743-99-298, en el Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (INIF) de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR). El estudio se basó en una encuesta preparada para evaluar la enseñanza de la filosofía, a partir de la opinión y creencia de los estudiantes de la educación diversificada en Costa Rica que, en efecto, reciben filosofía. La encuesta evalúa cinco componentes: (a) Conocimiento del programa y objetivos del curso; (b) Percepción de la clase de filosofía; (c) Conocimiento de temas y autores; (d) Mediación pedagógica del personal docente y (e) Actitud hacia la filosofía. Para llevarla a cabo, esta encuesta se aplicó en el año 2002; se escogieron once regiones educativas del país y del total de regiones se entrevistaron a 543 estudiantes. En este trabajo se describen y analizan los principales resultados de esa encuesta.</p><p> </p><p>A research project on the teaching of philosophy in Costa Rica's senior high schools was began in 1998. It was registered at the Institute for Research in Philosophy, University of Costa Rica, as Project #743-99-298. The study is an evaluation of the teaching of philosophy, from the opinion and believes of the student in Costa Rica’s senior high schools. The survey evaluates five components:(a) Knowledge of the program and objectives of the course. (b) Perception of the philosophy classes. (c) Knowledge of topics and authors. (d) Pedagogic Mediation of the educational personnel and (e) Attitude toward the philosophy. The survey was applied in the year 2002. It is realized in eleven country’s educative regions. They interviewed to 543 students. In this paper the main results of the survey are described and analyzed.</p>

ABSTRAk   Generasi milenial yang sebagian besar merupakan pelajar SMP dan SMA lebih banyak menghabiskan waktunya dengan gadget. Banyak pelajar masa kini sulit memahami pelajaran yang dipelajari di sekolah sehingga sampai di rumah mereka kembali sibuk dengan gadget-nya masing-masing dan melupakan topik pelajaran yang telah dipelajari di sekolah. Oleh karena itu, kebanyakan orangtua menyadari hal tersebut sehingga memberikan pelajaran tambahan bagi anak-anaknya dengan mendaftarkan anak-anaknya ke lembaga-lembaga bimbingan belajar (bimbel) terkenal ataupun mencari guru-guru les privat. Dengan semakin berkembangnya m-learning, siswa tidak perlu lagi harus datang ke lokasi bimbel karena Mereka bisa belajar kapanpun mereka mau setiap mereka membawa laptop atau smartphone dengan mengakses bimbingan belajar online (bimbel online). Ruangguru hadir sebagai salah satu alternatif bimbel online yang dapat dengan mudah diakses melalui smartphone, laptop ataupun tablet. Beberapa fitur unggulan seperti RuangUji, Ruang Latihan, Ruang Video, RuangLes, RuangLesOnline, Digital Boot Camp dan Edumail memungkinkan siswa untuk meng-upgrade kemampuan belajarnya sehingga diharapkan dapat mencapai hasil yang diinginkan.   Kata Kunci: m-learning, ruang guru. ABSTRACT   Millennial generations, mostly junior and senior high school students are spending much more of their time with gadgets. Nowadays, many students find it hard to understand their school lessons then neglect them at home. Parents realize this problem then help their children by enrolling them in tutoring agencies or seeking private tutors. With the development of m-learning, students no longer need to come to the location of guidance because they can learn whenever they want each they bring a laptop or smartphone by accessing online tutoring. Ruangguru presents as one of alternative online tutoring media can be easily accessed via smartphone, laptop or tablet. This study sought to develop and evaluate learning resource material in upgrading reading comprehension skills of Grade 11 to meet the pressing need of Doňa Candelaria Meneses Duque National High School. The researcher utilized the descriptive survey method which uses questionnaires as the primary tools in gathering desired data information. There were two sets of questionnaire which were used in the study. The first questionnaire is the Reading Diagnostic Test while the second research instrument is the evaluation tool for the developed learning resource materials. The subjects of this study are in two groups: one hundred twenty three (123) randomly selected Grade 11 senior high school students at Doña Candelaria Meneses Duque National High School (DCMDNHS) at Bulakan, Bulacan during the school year 2017-2018; and five ESL teachers, who evaluated the resource materials. The data collected were encoded and entered into the matrix using the computer software of Microsoft Excel with the following statistical procedures: frequency distribution, percentage score, mean, total mean and standard deviation. Based on the results of the diagnostic test, the researcher developed the learning resource materials, and these were validated by five ESL teachers using a 5- point Likert Scale in terms of the following criteria: objectives, contents, vocabulary, usefulness and presentation. Generally, after the evaluation, the overall mean gained of the instructional materials is 4.72, interpreted as “Excellent”. This computed overall mean attests and suggests that the developed learning resource materials in reading are acceptable. The study recommends that the language teachers need to provide the students the means towards maximum growth in accordance with their reading ability. The teachers must help students acquire basic comprehension skills and strategies in sequential reading program designed to reinforce the skills and appreciation of previous skills acquired and to develop new skills that are needed. Likewise, it is also suggested that the administrators should conduct or sponsor programs and inservice trainings to ensure the necessary updated innovations on the preparation and development of instructional materials, particularly in reading comprehension skills. Further, future researchers should conduct a research-driven strategy that can improve the reading comprehension skills of the students.


This paper analyzed of the school climate of senior high school students in Jember in the history lesson context. The purposes of this study are: (1) analyzing the school climate of senior high school students in Jember in the history lesson context; (2) examining the difference of school climate of senior high schools in jember. The total samples involved were 375 students. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the difference by using SPSS 23 for windows program. The results showed that the mean value of school climate of SMA 1 Jember 3.66; SMA 2 Jember 3:47; SMA 3 Jember 3:20; SMA 4 Jember 3:39 and; SMA 5 Jember 3:40. The result of the ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference of school climate of the senior high school students in Jember in the history lesson context (f = 4.789; Sig.0,001). The largest difference of significance level was shown by the sample group of SMA 1 Jember and SMA 3 Jember (mean differences = 0.46611). The school climate of SMA 1 Jember has very significant difference compared to the school climate of SMA 3 Jember.

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> This study addresses senior high school students’ reading comprehension on expository texts and its relation with the group sizes assigned to the students. It involves 133 eleventh grade students of SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro. Quantive data were analyzed descriptively. The findings show that CSR affect the students’ reading comprehension significantly. Yet, it fails to reveal the effect of group sizes arrangement on the strategies applied towards the students reading comprehension. Consequently, the use of CSR in reading class can not be related to the group sizes assigned to the students. </p><strong>Abstrak:</strong><em> </em>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap penguasaan pemahaman bacaan siswa SMA dan hubungannya dengan ukuran kelompok yang ditetapkan pada siswa. Penelitian ini melibatkan 133 siswa kelas XI SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro. Data kuantitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan CSR memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan pada pemahaman bacaan siswa. Namun, penelitian ini gagal menunjukkan pengaruh ukuran pengaturan kelompok dalam strategi yang diterapkan terhadap pemahaman bacaan siswa. Karena itu, penggunaan CSR dalam pembelajaran membaca tidak bisa dihubungkan dengan ukuran kelompok yang ditugaskan kepada siswa.
