This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using flipped classroom model on learning English as a foreign language and students’ attitudes towards flipped classroom. The sample of study consisted of 31 students at Faculty of Arts, Misurata University. The participants were divided into two groups: 16 students for the experimental group and 15 students for the control group. The data collection tools used in this study were an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) test and a questionnaire to explore students’ attitudes towards flipped classroom. Participants in both groups were pre-tested using the EFL test before the experiment. Then, the experimental group was taught using flipped classroom strategy while the control group was taught using the traditional teaching method. After the experiment, students in both groups were post-tested using the EFL test while the questionnaire was administered to the students of the experimental group only. The results of the study showed that applying the strategy of the flipped classroom had a significant effect in increasing the students’ performances in learning English. This research aimed at investigating the male and female students’ preferences on the six types of Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF). This qualitative research used observation and interview to collect data. The observation was done to know the practice of the six types of OCF in speaking class and the interview was conducted to reveal the students’ preferences for OCF. The result from the observation shows that the lecturer mostly uses Explicit Correction to correct the students’ error. Then, the result from the interview indicates that male students prefer to have Explicit Correction because this type is the easiest type to know the error and correction clearly. Whereas the female students prefer to have Recast and Metalinguistic Feedback because Recast does not encourage them and Metalinguistic Feedback can make them think critically under the lecturer’s clue. Subsequently, both male and female students perceive Clarification Request and Repetition as the ambiguous type to grasp what the lecturer’s mean. The result of this current research is expected to provide an additional information about the practice of OCF strategies in speaking classroom which is appropriate with the students’ preferences.

A number of studies has shown that attitudes are one of the most significant and influential factors that determine success in learning a foreign language. The paper investigates university students' attitudes towards learning grammar of the English language and towards the use of multimedia teaching tools in grammar instruction, and how these attitudes influence success in learning grammar. Our experimental study involved two groups of university students studying English as a foreign language, a control and an experimental group, in the course of a full academic year. The control group was taught using only the traditional tools, while grammar instruction for the experimental group was conducted in a multimedia-enriched environment, i.e. in addition to the traditional tools, the students were also exposed to educational video games and video clips in the form of film segments and music videos that were not part of a coursebook material, but were closely connected to the topic of the unit in the coursebook. It was hypothesised that positive attitudes towards learning grammar would affect achievements in learning grammar, and that the students exposed to the multimedia tools would be more inclined to view grammar in a positive light. The instruments applied in the study were an attitude questionnaire and a grammar test that yielded quantitative data for the statistical analysis. The results indicated that university students' success in learning grammar was affected by their attitudes towards learning grammar, and that a multimedia-enriched environment contributed to the development of positive attitudes towards grammar. It can be concluded that positive attitudes towards multimedia-enriched environment in learning grammar resulted from the participants' experience of purposeful application of multimedia in the language classroom, and that positive attitudes indirectly contributed to the participants' success in the grammar test. These findings have significant implications for teaching grammar at a university level and can be used for improving the conditions for grammar teaching, enhancing motivation for learning grammar, and eventually for achieving better results in learning grammar in a foreign language classroom.

<p>This article aims to provide the results of a research focusing on 12th graders’ attitudes towards English as a Foreign Language in two secondary schools in Puerto Montt, Chile. Attitude towards a language has been considered as an important factor that influences the process of learning a foreign language (Shams, 2008); for this reason, it is fundamental to identify students’ attitudes since positive attitudes towards English allow the students to have favourable orientation towards learning it (Karahan, 2007). Under this premise, this study corresponds to a case study that includes a quantitative method of data analysis. A survey of five dimensions was conducted amongst 154 students in order to measure their attitudes towards the target language. The results show that their attitudes towards English as a foreign language are favourable; however, the dimensions related to learning English, and English as a subject at school obtained unfavourable attitudes. </p>

Learning idioms is an uphill battle for many language learners. Thus, this quantitative study aims to shed light on English as Foreign Language (EFL) college students’ attitudes towards idiom learning. Specifically, the study is interested in revealing their attitudes towards (1) the importance of idiom learning, (2) the difficulties of idiom learning and (3) the learning strategies of idioms. Additionally, the study attempts to determine if there is an influence of age and/or year of study on the students’ attitudes towards learning English idioms. Participants were 218 female EFL college students at the College of Basic Education (CBE) in Kuwait. A five-point Likert-scale questionnaire was employed to obtain data for the study. Data analysis of the questionnaire uncovered the learners’ preferred strategies and sources of difficulties when learning idioms. Results showed that students had positive attitudes towards English idiom learning. Significant differences in the results were found when age was taken into account.
