Winter soft wheat is one of the most important crops. New varieties of wheat should be characterized by a set of valuable economic characteristics, but the most relevant is the creation of varieties with high yields and grain quality, resistant to a complex of diseases and other negative factors. The aim of the study was to evaluate new promising varieties of winter soft wheat breeding of the NSC "Institute of Agriculture NAAS" for grain yield, winter hardiness, disease resistance and grain quality. Experimental studies were conducted at the NSC "Institute of Agriculture NAAS" in 2016-2020, research fields are located in the Fastiv district of Kyiv region. Different weather conditions over the years of research have contributed to a better and more comprehensive assessment of varieties on a set of valuable economic characteristics. During field experiments, the generally accepted technology of growing winter wheat was used. The area of the competitive variety testing site was 20.0 m2, repeated four times. Field, measuring and weighing, laboratory and mathematical and statistical methods were used during the research. In 2018, new varieties of soft winter wheat Krasunia Poliska, Mokosha, Pyriatynka, Fortetsia Poliska, Efektna and in 2020 the variety Zemlerob were transferred to the Ukrainian Institute of Plant Variety Examination for qualification examination. <p>Nitrogen (N) is a crop nutrient that is commonly applied as fertilizer, however the dynamic nature of N and its propensity for loss from soil‐plant systems creates a unique and challenging environment for its efficient management. Nitrification inhibitors (NIs) are compounds that can reduce the bacterial oxidation of NH4+ to NO2− by inhibiting the activity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and maintaining a higher proportion of applied nitrogen in the soil by preventing nitrate loss from leaching and gaseous N losses from nitrification and denitrification. The organic compound 2-chloro-6-(tri-chloromethyl) pyridine, commonly known as nitrapyrin (NP), is such a nitrification inhibitor that is used in agriculture. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of NI (NP) on winter wheat yield compared to farmers practice without NI at a given N rate and same number of N split applications.</p><p>A randomized complete block design in five replications was used in this study. Treatments were: T1 (control treatment - without urea), T2 (farmers practice - 300 kg urea/ha), and T3 (urea+NP - 300 kg urea/ha). Urea was applied in three split applications at tillering, stem elongation and booting stages in treatments T2 (farmers practice) and T3 (urea+NP). The average grain yield of winter wheat was 8.7 t ha-1 for the farmers practice (T2) and 9.1 t ha-1 for the urea+NP treatment (T3) at the same number of split fertilizer applications.</p><p>The crop yield data showed that urea applied with NP (T3) did increase only slightly grain yield, as compared to farmers practice (T2). The grain yield increase with NP was about 4%, however the statistical analysis showed that this increase due to the application of urea with NP was not significant. Further research is needed to investigate additional nitrification inhibitors and their effect on wheat production.</p>

The article substantiates the need to improve the elements of technology for growing varieties of soft winter wheat, taking into account the size of the seed material and weather conditions of the growing season. It is determined that along with varietal properties, the use of pre-prepared seeds for sowing has an impact on its sowing properties, field germination, growth and development of plants, their formation of elements of productivity and grain yield. The study was conducted on five registered varieties of soft winter wheat 'Tsarychanka', 'Karmelyuk', 'Sidir Kovpak', 'Dykanka' and 'Sanzhara' in the agro-climatic zone of the central part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. The results of research showed that the highest field germination of seeds have the variety 'Karmelyuk' for sowing shallow and medium fraction of seeds (94 and 90%, respectively), and the variety 'Dykanka' - sowing medium and large fraction (95 and 86%, respectively). The percentage of germination of seeds of varieties 'Tsarychanka', 'Sanzhara' is almost at the same level 82 and 89, respectively. The highest indicators of elements of structure of an ear are found at the varieties 'Karmelyuk' - 30,5 pieces of grains in an ear, for its weight in an ear of 0,86 g, 'Dykanka' - 30,6 pieces of grains in an ear, for its weight in an ear 0, 87. The use of seeds of the middle fraction for sowing provided the highest yield of varieties 'Karmelyuk', 'Dykanka' which amounted to 4.7 t / ha. When sowing seeds of a large fraction, the highest yields were obtained by 'Dykanka' and 'Sanzhara' varieties - 4.8 and 4.9 t / ha, respectively. The aim of the study. To determine the influence of seed fraction on sowing qualities, variability of yield elements of soft winter wheat varieties. The experiment was conducted in the central forest-steppe of Ukraine, using general research methods studied in agronomy The material for the study were winter wheat varieties of Poltava State Agrarian Academy: "Tsarchanka", "Karmelyuk", "Sidir Kovpak", "Dykanka" and "Sanzhara". Sowing of the studied varieties was carried out with seeds selected on sieves and divided into fractions: shallow (1), medium (2), large (3), and mixture (4). Agrotechnics in the study are generally accepted for the soil-climatic zone of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. The increase in the weight of 1000 grains was significantly influenced by sowing with the middle fraction of seeds, which is characteristic of the variety 'Sidir Kovpak' (50.4 g), large - 'Tsarychanka' (52.5 g), 'Dykanka' (49.2 g) and 'Sanzhara' (48.4 g), for the variety 'Karmelyuk' the weight of the grain increases when sown with a mixture of seeds (52.0 g). It was determined that the size of the seed material had an impact on the elements of the structure of the ear of corn and grain size. Thus, the variety 'Tsarichanka' formed 26.8 pieces. grains in the ear, for its weight of 0.65 g when sown by the average fraction of seeds, variety 'Karmelyuk' on the same variants of the experiment, respectively - 30.5 pcs. and 0.86 g, grade 'Sidir Kovpak' - 27.4 pcs. and 0.85 g, 'Dykanka' - 30.6 pcs. and 0.86 g. For these varieties, the dependence is established: sowing in shallow and large fractions, as well as a mixture of seeds reduces the number and weight of grains from the ear. In the variety 'Sanzhara' revealed a maximum increase in the number of grains from the ear to 26.8 pieces. and the mass of grain from the ear of 0.88 g in the options for sowing a large fraction of seeds Yields of the studied varieties of winter wheat depending on the size of the seed material varied in the range from 3.08 to 4.86 t / ha, with the highest value in option 3 (large seeds) in the varieties 'Sanzhara' (4.9 t / ha) and 'Dykanka' (4.8 t / ha), on option 2 (average seed) 'Karmelyuk' (4.67 t / ha), 'Sidir Kovpak' (4.29 t / ha) and 'Tsarychanka' - 4 .0 t / ha. It was found that the yield of all studied varieties of winter wheat has a strong correlation with seed size and number of grains in the ear (r> 0.70), the average correlation between the weight of 1000 grains and grain yield was found in varieties' Tsarychanka ',' Karmelyuk 'and' Dykanka '(r = 0.31… 0.69). In the variety 'Sanzhara', the weight of the grain from the ear and the yield have a rectilinear correlation of medium strength.

The trial with different side-dressing fertilizations for winter wheat has been conducted at Vetovo site, Croatia, in vegetation seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09. The five side-dressing fertilizations has been tested (Control - no sidedressing, KAN - 100 kg KAN ha-1 in tillering and jointing stages; M1 - 8 l of foliar NPK fertilizer 'Profert Mara' ha-1; M2 - 16 l ha-1 of foliar fertilizer, and; M3 - 24 ha-1 of foliar fertilizer) at four winter wheat cultivars (Anika, Fiesta, Gabi and Rapsodija), with previously applied 400 kg NPK 7:20:30 ha-1 for all treatments. Results showed that all foliar side-dressing treatments gave winter wheat grain yield higher than the control, and that M1 treatment showed equal in comparison with KAN side-dressing. Treatments M2 and M3 had, in comparison with the control, KAN and M1 treatments, higher yields which leads toward conclusion that foliar treatments can be recommended for side-dressing for given agroecological conditions.

Livestock farmers in Newfoundland presently import most of their feed grain, and local self-sufficiency in grain production is a desirable long-term goal. The overall objective of this work was to refine our understanding of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production in Newfoundland, with the aim of improving present cropping recommendations. We conducted trials near St. John's in 1998 and 1999 to examine the effect of seeding rate and topdress ammonium nitrate (N) fertilization rate on Borden winter wheat yield and yield components. We also conducted four seeding date trials in the same region. Optimum-treatment grain yields in our six trials ranged from 2.76 to 5.39 t ha−1. In years of variable winter kill, increasing seeding rate up to 450 seeds m−2 increased spikes m−2 at harvest, resulting in increased grain yield. Seeding rate, however, was not as important as N fertilization in maximizing grain yield. Increasing topdress fertilization to 60 kg N ha–1 increased spikes m–2 at harvest in years of variable winter kill, resulting in greater grain yield. In years of high winter survival, the main source of higher grain yield levels (through higher N application rates) was not achieved through greater spikes m−2 at harvest, but rather through an increase in kernel weight. Optimum grain yields occurred at seeding rates of 400 ± 50 seeds m−2, and at topdress fertilizer applications up to a rate of at least 30 kg N ha−1. Given the results of our seeding date experiments, in conjunction with previously developed climatic models, we now consider the optimum seeding date for the eastern region of Newfoundland to be August 31. Key words: Yield component analysis, two-dimensional partitioning, Triticum aestivum L., ammonium nitrate

Purpose. To investigate the effect of pre-sowing seed treatment with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) and bacterial preparations on the leaf water content and photosynthetic productivity of agricultural crops (winter wheat, corn, sunflower and soybean) under mycorrhization of their roots. Methods. Field, laboratory, and statistical. Results. The results of studies on determining the effect of pre-sowing treatment of seeds of such agricultural crops as soft winter wheat, common corn, annual sunflower and soybean culturally vesucular-arboscular drugs Mikovital (mushroom Tuber melanosporum VITTAD.) Micofrend (mushroom Trichoderma harzianum. (bacteria Bacillus subtilis Cohn.) on the water content of leaves and the productivity of photosynthesis of plants by mycorrhization of their root system. It was found that the implementation of this measure provides a steady increase in the water content of leaves and the productivity of photosynthesis of agricultural crops. In particular, the water content of leaves of soft winter wheat plants, common corn, annual sunflower and cultivated soybeans for the use of the preparations Mikovital, Mikofrend and Florobatsilin was 1.6–77.3 % more than in the control. According to the indicators of the water content of the leaves, the productivity of photosynthesis of crops increased by 8.3–57.1 % in comparison with the control, which indicates a significant effect of this factor on the growth and development of plants. Conclusions. Pre-sowing seed treatment with vesicular-arbuscular products Mikovital, Mycofrend, and bacterial product Florabacillin promotes a steady increase in the leaf water content and photosynthetic productivity in winter bread wheat, maize, annual sunflower, and soybean.
