Abstract. The purpose of the research is the reaction of spring soft wheat varieties to dry phenomena during the growing season in the forest-steppe zone of the Trans-Urals. Methods. The material was 24 varieties of various biotypes for maturation from the nursery of the competitive variety testing of the Kurgan Research Institute of Agricultural Sciences. Results. The negative effect of the drought reduced the yield in the experiments by 11.9 c/ha, the weight of 1000 grains by 5.7 g, and the nature by 19.7 g/l. The influence of grain size on the yield both in favorable years and in years of drought was noted (r = 0.63…0.98). In arid conditions, vitreous is correlated with yield, 1000 grain weight, in kind, to a lesser extent with gluten content, bread volume, and “flour strength”. The lack of moisture during the grain filling period increased the gluten content by 3.4 %, the quality by 15.1 e. p. IDC, the flour strength by 102.7 e. a., the volume of bread by 106 g/l. In favorable years, the weight of 1000 grains and the vitreous content of the grain correlate with gluten (r = 0.44; r = 0.24–0.84). Indicators of productivity and physical properties of grain increase when sowing at the optimal time, with a certain decrease in the gluten content (by 1.2 %), flour strength (by 5.3 e. a.), bread volume (by 73.2 e. p.). In the early sowing period, moisture deficiency reduces the indicators for all varieties Under these conditions, early-maturing varieties form a larger grain both when sowing at an early time (29.0 g) and when sowing at the optimal (31.3 g). In a drought, the role of the variety is especially high. High drought resistance was shown by the Zauralochka variety of the Kurgan Research Institute of Agriculture, which successfully passed the test in the dry years (2012, 2020) in the GSI system and in the environmental test (KASIB). The yield of the drought-resistant variety Zauralochka on average for the HSU was 20.2 c/ha, exceeding the standard Hercules by 2.2 c/ha. Scientific novelty. The features of the influence of dry phenomena on the yield and the main indicators of the quality of varieties are revealed, the correlation between them is determined. According to drought resistance, a variety of spring soft wheat Zauralochka was selected.

Abstract The article discusses the impact of severe drought on the growth and development of winter wheat plants. The studies were carried out in 2018-2020. As a starting material, we used 57 samples of winter soft wheat bred by ARC “Donskoy”. The studies were carried out under laboratory and vegetation methods. According to the analysis, it was revealed that the highest values of the index of complex resistance were shown by the samples: intensive type - 1630/17 (282.8 rel.units), 2078/16 (265.1 rel.units), 1990/17 (265, 0 rel.units); semi-intensive type -1727/17 (260.6 rel. units), 2243/17 (258.6 rel. units), 522/16 (252.8 rel. units). The maximum value of the degree of drought resistance of samples of the intensive type was noted for lines 2243/17 (92.4%), 1727/17 (84.9%), and 522/16 (82.6%). Among 36 samples of winter soft wheat of intensive type, high drought resistance was noted in 67% (24 samples) with germination from 71.6 (Univer) to 92.9% (1630/17). High values of heat resistance (I-81-100% of germination) out of 57 studied samples of winter wheat were noted in 56 genotypes, the indicators of which ranged from 85.1% (1181/16) to 98% (Zodiac, 1166/15, 1275/16). The highest grain yield under model drought conditions was noted for winter wheat varieties Zodiac (332.86 g/m2), Premiera (332.48 g/m2) and Podarok Krymu (317.50 g/m2), which is higher than the yield of the Ascet classifier (292.97 g/m2) by 8.0-13.7%..

Abstract The article presents the results of experiments to study the reaction of winter soft wheat of the Nemchinovskaya 17 variety to growth regulators with retardant properties. It was found that the use of growth regulators at the end of the tillering-exit phase into the tube reduced the height of plants by an average of 0.115 m compared to the control without treatment, where the height of plants was on average 0.813 m. According to the results of observations, a differentiated reaction of the tested winter wheat to lodging was established when using the studied growth regulators. In plants treated with Reggi and Messidor growth regulators, lodging was not observed and ranged from 4.4 to 5 points of lodging on the control without treatment – 3 points. The tested plant growth regulators have a significant impact on the yield of winter wheat of the studied variety and the formation of its structural elements. The increase in yield according to the variants of the experiment was about 4.1-6.1 t/ha depending on the type of drug. The highest yield increases were obtained with the use of Reggi at a dose of 1.5 l/ha.

Common winter wheat is the main grain crop cultivated in the North Caucasus. Rust disease damage is one of the factors limiting wheat productivity. There are three species of rust in the region: leaf (Puccinia triticina), stem (P. graminis) and stripe rust (P. striiformis), and their significance varies from year to year. The most common is leaf rust, but in the last decade the frequency of its epiphytotic development has significantly decreased. At the same time, an increase in the harmfulness of stripe rust (P. striiformis) is noted. Stem rust in the region is mainly absent or observed at the end of the wheat growing season to a weak degree. Only in some years with favorable weather conditions its mass development is noted on susceptible cultivars. It is believed that the sources of infection with rust species in the North Caucasus are infested soft wheat crops, wild-growing cereals and exodemic infection carried by air currents from adjacent territories. In the North Caucasus, forage and wild grasses are affected by Puccinia species almost every year. Depending on weather conditions, the symptom expression is noted from late September to December and then from late February to May–June. Potentially, an autumn infection on grasses can serve as a source for infection of winter soft wheat cultivars sown in October. The purpose of these studies is to characterize the virulence of P. triticina, P. graminis, P. striiformis on wild cereals and to assess the specialization of causative agents to winter wheat in the North Caucasus. Infectious material represented by leaves with urediniopustules of leaf, stem and stripe rusts was collected from wild cereals (Poa spp., Bromus spp.) in the Krasnodar Territory in October–November 2019. Uredinium material from P. triticina, P. striiformis, and P. graminis was propagated and cloned. Monopustular Puccinia spp. isolates were used for virulence genetics analysis. In experiments to study the specialization of rust species from wild-growing cereals on common wheat, 12 winter cultivars were used (Grom, Tanya, Yuka, Tabor, Bezostaya 100, Yubileynaya 100, Vekha, Vassa, Alekseich, Stan, Gurt, Bagrat). These cultivars are widely cultivated in the North Caucasus region and are characterized by varying degrees of resistance to rust. Additionally, wheat material was inoculated with Krasnodar populations of P. triticina, P. striiformis, P. graminis from common wheat. In the virulence analysis of P. triticina on cereal grasses, four phenotypes (races) were identified: MCTKH (30 %), TCTTR (30 %), TNTTR (25 %), MHTKH (15 %), and five were identified in P. graminis (RKMTF (60 %), TKTTF, RKLTF, QKLTF, LHLPF (10 % each). Among P. striiformis isolates, three phenotypes were identified using the International and European sets of differentiating cultivars – 111E231 (88 %), 111E247 (6 %) and 78E199 (6 %). Using isogenic Avocet lines, 3 races were also identified, which differed among themselves in virulence to the Yr1, Yr11, Yr18 genes (with the prevalence of virulent ones (94 %)). Composite urediniums’ samples (a mixture of all identified races) of grass rust of each species were used to inoculate winter wheat cultivars. The most common winter wheat cultivars (75 %) were characterized by a resistant response when infected with P. graminis populations from common wheat and cereal grasses. All these cultivars were developed using donors of the rye translocation 1BL.1RS, in which the Lr26, Sr31, and Yr9 genes are localized. The number of winter wheat cultivars resistant to leaf rust in the seedling phase was lower (58 %). At the same time, all the studied cultivars in the seedling phase were susceptible to P. striiformis to varying degrees. The virulence analysis of the leaf, stem and stripe rust populations did not reveal significant differences in the virulence of the pathogens between wild-growing cereals and soft wheat. Urediniomaterial of all studied rust species successfully infested soft wheat cultivars. The results obtained indicate that grasses are rust infection reservoirs for common wheat crops in the North Caucasus.

Plant height is an important component of the model of many wheat varieties. Studies aimed at identifying the relationship between important economic characteristics of wheat and heights are relevant given the long process of wheat domestication. The article highlights the results of a research of plant height and lodging resistance of 28 winter wheat varieties created in the period from 1971 to 2017. Studies have shown that varieties vary in height and lodging resistance over the years. In terms of height relative to the variety-standard Perlyna Lisostepu, the highest yield were of the varieties Zhuravka (112 cm), Miryutinka (113 cm), Kievskaya-73 (102 cm), Pamiati Girka (103 cm). The lowest varieties were Gnome (65 cm), Analog (77 cm), Kievskaya polukarlikova (76 cm), Shchedraya Polesia (83 cm). According to the resistance to lodging, the studied varieties can be attributed to different groups. Varieties created after 1992 were resistant to lodging: Kraevid, Polesskaya-90, Gnom, Analog, Kesaria Polisska, Olzhana. Conventionally dividing varieties into groups according to the years of creation in the period from 1971 to 2012, you can notice a tendency to decrease in height and increase resistance to lodging with each subsequent variety change. According to the results of field tests, the average height of winter soft wheat varieties of the Institute of Agriculture created in the period from 1992-2017 decreased by 5 cm compared to varieties created in the period from 1971 to 1992.So, the results obtained indicate the active involvement of short-stemmed genotypes in the breeding process of winter wheat, which are still being successfully studied. Most varieties of the Institute belong to the semi-dwarf group in terms of height and are highly resistant to lodging, and therefore are promising as a source of economically valuable traits.

This research paper presents the results of the dynamics of the accumulation of the chlorophyll in-dex in winter soft wheat plants, depending on the depth of the tillering node. In conditions of lack of moisture, the deepening of the tillering node leads to the development of roots in more moisture-rich soil horizons, which reduces the risk of cultivating winter soft wheat. With the help of the chlorophyll index, it was possible to evaluate the effect of the deepening of the tillering node in the soil, as well as to assess the condition of plants and the rate of maturation.
