The main goal of this paper is to conceptualize a seeping commodification. The author of the paper claims we are in the midst of a considerable qualitative transformation in the processes of commodification that is, in large part, owed to an overwhelming capitalist enclosure of the wider communicative field. The key reason for what seems to be an important qualitative transformation in the commodification process lies in the fact that communication and information flows today run through most social relations and spheres – which non-critical approaches often explain with the concept of the ‘mediatization of society’. A materialist approach, distinctive of (critical) political economy of communication, enables an apt critique of these processes. In an epoch, in which capital has enclosed the wider field of communication, mediatization is in fact nothing else than a continuing commodification of our everyday lives. The author of the paper claims that commodification of communication and informational resources must be seen as a long-term process, which has accompanied the rise of capitalism. A considerable proliferation of the economic importance of communication, information, and culture has – to be precise – been enhanced in a large part by political interventions occurring in the last decades (which were a response to the economic tendencies and crises of the time). While the immediate results are observable especially in the proliferation of the new information and communication technologies and the global role of intellectual property rights, the wider social consequences of these developments have been much broader and more influential. This study proceeds from the perspective of historical materialism and adopts dialectics in an attempt to grasp contradictory social changes. The analysis is done through different methods of historicizing: firstly, by observing long-term changes in communication, information, and culture, as they have been slowly transformed into commodities produced for market exchange since the emergence of capitalism; and, secondly, by defining fundamental political and economic processes occurring in recent decades that help with an explanation of the rise in the influence of communication and information (as peculiar types of commodities) in the current epoch.

Technological developments enable adolescents to establish crowded peer groups through communication over extensive social networks that are difficult to supervise. However, inappropriate and unsupervised use of information and communication technologies can make adolescents the target of behaviors related to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying and victimization have severe negative effects on individuals' social, academic, and emotional lives. The negative effects of cyberbullying can be experienced more intensely during adolescence as a result of the changes occurring in the cognitive developmental field. The cyberbullying experienced in adolescence is also a predictor of bullying behaviors in social relations and professional lives as adults. The effects of bullying behaviors in adulthood can be an indication of the long-term effects of cyberbullying. Taking this as the starting point, this chapter aims to examine the types, prevalence, short and long-term effects of cyberbullying behaviors during adolescence.

Digitalization, that is, organizational renewal through new information and communication technologies, has long been invested with a fantasmic logic of affording alternative organizational ideals – democratic and not-for-profit rather than hierarchical and for-profit. Responding to calls to study the darker side of Silicon Valley inspired utopia, this paper investigates how and when organizational work on digitalization fantasies undermines organizational ideal renewal. In particular, this paper draws on the extended case of Alternative Bank (1963–2019) to shed light on how the long-term co-evolution of fantasy sublogics and power types in successive digital transformation projects induces organizational ideal reversal. I provide a theoretical model of how organizational ideal reversal comes about through the co-evolutionary conditioning of ‘have your cake and eat it’ affordances, mimetic neglect of real ethical affordances, and structural transgression of the ideal in the name of market and technical discipline. Ideal reversal occurs through consecutive phases of unwitting ideal transgression, followed by increasingly cynical and instrumentalizing transgression, and finally a cathartic moment of liberating ideal reversal. I advance several theoretical propositions on how digital fantasy work induces organizational ideal reversal, situating the dark side of fantasy work within a larger societal critique.

Forest workers training is recognized as a necessary precondition for sustainable forest management. As sustainable forest management sets higher levels of standards, the adoption of new information and communication technologies (ICT) in forest workers’ training and extension systems is a necessity in the Information Age, which will help the current and future workforce to better fit in the increasingly digitalized and demanding world of forest work. However, limitations on the use of ICTs do exist and should be seriously taken into consideration. Digital divide is evident both in developed and developing countries, making the implementation of ICT applications difficult, especially in the case of African and Asian countries. Furthermore, the development of e-learning systems for forest professionals must adhere to very specific design standards and educational theories. In this context, research should focus on the needs of the end-users at regional or national level. However, all efforts will be ineffective unless they are incorporated and facilitated by a stable framework of political and financial support. The combination of long-term planning, clear target setting, and cost effectiveness is critical for the successful promotion of sustainable forest management through e-learning.

Современный период развития общества характеризуется большой степенью сложности и скоростью изменений во всех сферах и стремительным ростом накопления информационных данных, использованием новых информационно-коммуникационных технологий, усилением влияния информации на все сферы общественной жизни. Это предъявляет особые требования к профессиональной компетентности специалистов тех отраслей, которые имеют функции создания, обработки и распространения информации. К таким профессиям относятся и специалисты по информационному, библиотечному и архивному делу. Указанные общественные изменения затрудняют не только информационно-библиотечное обслуживание, но и всю систему библиотечной деятельности, которая все больше должна становиться мобильной, разноплановой, включать новые направления и формы работы, которые должны удовлетворять все возрастающие потребности своих пользователей. В частности, содействие усвоению пользователем знания, необходимого ему для применения на практике, в рамках оказания библиотечной услуги может обеспечить проектная деятельность как библиотеки в целом, так и отдельного специалиста. Потенциал в использовании в качестве библиотечной услуги проектной деятельности заслуживает особого внимания отечественных и зарубежных ученых. На сегодня приходится констатировать, что существует несоответствие научного обоснования содержания и механизмов повышения эффективности проектной деятельности специалистов информационной, библиотечной и архивного дела актуальным требованиям к профессиональной компетентности этих специалистов. Особенно обостряется эта проблема в связи с неисследованностью отдельных аспектов профессионального образования специалистов информационного, библиотечного и архивного дела. The modern period of development of society is characterized by a high degree of complexity and speed of changes in all spheres and a rapid increase in the accumulation of information data, the use of new information and communication technologies, the increasing influence of information on all spheres of public life. This imposes special requirements on the professional competence of specialists in those industries that have the functions of creating, processing and distributing information. Such professions include specialists in information, library and archival affairs. These social changes complicate not only information and library services, but also the entire system of library activities, which should increasingly become mobile, diverse, include new areas and forms of work that should meet the ever-increasing needs of their users. In particular, the project activity of both the library as a whole and an individual specialist can facilitate the assimilation by the user of the knowledge necessary for him to apply in practice within the framework of the provision of library services. The potential for using project activities as a library service deserves special attention of domestic and foreign scientists. Today we have to state that there is a discrepancy between the scientific justification of the content and mechanisms for improving the effectiveness of the project activities of information, library and archival specialists to the actual requirements for the professional competence of these specialists. This problem is particularly aggravated due to the lack of research on certain aspects of professional education of information, library and archival specialists.

ABSTRACTPoor farmers often lack credit to purchase agricultural inputs, and rely on their buyers to provide it. This paper considers the effects of mobile phones on traders of perishable foodstuffs operating between Tanzania's Southern Highlands and Dar es Salaam's wholesale market, with a particular focus on the importance of credit in the relationship between potato and tomato farmers and their wholesale buyers. It argues that the ability to communicate using these new information and communication technologies (ICTs) does not significantly alter the trust relationship between the two groups. It also suggests that farmers, in effect, often have to accept the price they are told their crops are sold for – irrespective of the method of communication used to convey this message – because their buyers are also their creditors. In this situation, many farmers are unable to exploit new mobile phone-based services to seek information on market prices, and potential buyers in other markets. Doing so runs the risk of breaking a long-term relationship with a buyer who is willing to supply credit because of their established business interaction. It is suggested that, under a more open system than currently exists in Tanzania, mobile-payment (‘m-payment’) applications should target these creditor-buyers as key agents in connecting farmers to the credit they so often require.

Este artículo es producto de una investigación que tiene como finalidad establecer la relación que tienen las TIC con el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes del Colegio Técnico Industrial “La Alborada” de la ciudad de Milagro, provincia del Guayas, Ecuador. Este estudio se enmarca dentro de las investigaciones descriptivas, correlacionales, ya que por medio del análisis, observación, comparación y descripción de las variables, se establece el escaso uso de las herramientas tecnológicas en el proceso educativo. Los datos estadísticos se obtienen de los resultados por la aplicación de instrumentos a los estudiantes y docentes de la institución. Se utilizaron los métodos deductivos, inductivos y teóricos para el desarrollo del proceso. La propuesta requiere un fortalecimiento en el uso de las nuevas tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación, siendo importante que los docentes conozcan el uso adecuado de las mismas y las integren en sus horas de clases, porque mejorará el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes por su nueva forma de explicar las clases que serán más interactivas y divertidas. Es necesario realizar un Plan de capacitación en el uso de las herramientas e- learning que garantice una educación de calidad.   Palabras claves: TIC, rendimiento académico, proceso educativo.   ABSTRACT   This article is the result of a research that aims to establish the relationship of ICTs to academic performance of students in the Industrial Technical College “La Alborada” in Milagro, Guayas, Ecuador. This study is part of a descriptive, correlational research, since through analysis, observation, comparison and description of the variables, the limited use of technological tool sin the educational process is established. The statistics are obtained from the resultsof the application of tools for students and teachers of the institution. Deductive, inductive and theoretical process development methods were used. The proposal requires as treng then ing in the use of new information and communication technologies and it is important that teachers become aware of their proper use and incorporate them in their classes, because these will improve the academic performance of students in classes that are more interactive and fun. In recent years, the Middle East’s information and communications landscape has changed dramatically. Increasingly, states, businesses, and citizens are capitalizing on the opportunities offered by new information technologies, the fast pace of digital transformations, and enhanced connectivity. These changes are far from turning Middle Eastern nations into network societies, but their impact is significant. The growing adoption of a wide variety of information technologies and new media platforms in everyday life has given rise to complex dynamics that beg for a better understanding. Digital Middle East sheds a critical light on continuing changes that are closely intertwined with the adoption of information and communication technologies in the MENA region. Drawing on case studies from throughout the Middle East, the contributors explore how these digital transformations are playing out in the social, cultural, political, and economic spheres, exposing the various disjunctions and discordances that have marked the advent of the digital Middle East.

Health tourism is booming all over the world, and thermal spa tourism in Spain is a type of tourism aimed at integrating with nature, achieving sustainable development. In general, its facilities are located in areas specially protected by environmental legislation. This tourism sector attracts an increasingly wide market segment that has become more demanding and better informed and that more frequently uses the Internet to gather information. Tourists’ shopping and consumption habits are increasingly influenced by new information and communication technologies (ICTs), making these a topic of interest among academics and professionals. Website development has been shown to be an area of innovation for spa facilities, but evidence has also been found that this sector has experienced difficulty in adopting ICTs. This research sought to analyse spa websites’ usability by conducting an exploratory investigation of different websites’ contents. The results reveal that the use of new web technologies by spas is underdeveloped, although these facilities have achieved good positions in Internet search engines due to the synergistic effect of the official tourism websites. That is why most of them tell their story, detail their nature and the protection of their spaces. In this way, spas turn their websites into communication channels that convey to tourists their commitment to the environment and sustainable development.
