Teaching materials are learning tools that contain materials, learning methods, and ways to evaluate students which are arranged systematically to achieve learning objectives. The teaching materials used during mathematics learning are textbooks that make it difficult for students to understand the material and educators have not developed teaching materials based on a realistic mathematics education using the Tri N teaching. This research aims to determine the validity and responses of students to the development of mathematics teaching materials based on realistic mathematics education using Tri N teaching on the material of linear equation system class X SMK. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) which aims to produce and test product quality. This research refers to the 4D development model, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. However, this research only reached the development stage. Data was collected by using documentation techniques, validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The test subjects were students of class X TKJ 1 SMK Kesuma Margoyoso. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. This research produces a product of mathematics teaching materials with an average percentage of 85.6% which is included in the very valid category. Student responses to teaching materials are in the very good category with an average percentage of 82.22%. This shows that teaching materials are suitable for use in learning at school. Keywords: teaching materials, realistic mathematics education, tri-n.

This research is motivated by the lack of mathematics teaching materials that can make students learn on their own. The teaching material can be created by teachers as they are the ones who possess the knowledge about their students’ characteristics. Further, learning materials are a set of materials (information, tools, or texts) that can aid teachers and students to carry out the learning process. The two-variable linear equation system (SPLDV) is one of the mathematics materials taught to eighth-grade students of junior high school; it contains problems related to daily life. However, it is found that this material is still difficult to master by most students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the SPLDV teaching materials that can help students learn and solve problems as well as be used as examples by teachers in developing other materials. This research aimed to make problem-based SPLDV teaching materials. The research method refers to the Four-D Model by Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel (1974). It consisted of defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. The results showed that problem-based SPLDV teaching materials could be used in learning activities as the students and the teachers had shown their positive responses after going through expert assessments. This study also suggested that the teachers use this teaching material and adopt teaching materials for other similar materials.

Abstract                                                              This paper discusses the use of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) as an alternative approach to enhance Indonesian 5th-grade students’ ability in multiplication and division. It presents the analysis of Indonesian 5th-grade students’ difficulties in applying stacking method for multiplication and division. Furthermore, it describes a mathematics teaching learning practice to stimulate students constructing their strategies, mathematical models and number sense in solving mathematical problems that involve multiplication and division. The teaching learning practice aims to apply RME for helping students develop their multiplication and division ability.Findings shows that stacking methods for multiplication and division are difficult for the students. The main students’ problem in multiplication and division stacking methods is in reapplying the steps of the methods. The steps taken to improve the learning process by implementing RME are: (1) analyze in detail the difficulties of students in multiplication and division stacking methods, (2) provide contexts of mathematical problems that can stimulate students to think mathematically, (3) hold a class mathematics congress, and (4) conduct a test to measure students’ achievement.            Based on the students’ achievement, there has been several improvements. After RME, there were more students whose grades passed the Minimum Mastery Criteria. Moreover, there was a student who got 100. Then, the average test was higher. Meanwhile, there were only 3 children whose grades were 0. Thus, the application of RME has helped the 5th-grade students to improve their ability in multiplication and division.

The process of teaching and learning mathematics in elementary schools is generally presented in an abstract form, learning is dominated by lectures, exercises, and question and answer methods so that students become passive and find it difficult to understand the material.  This study aims to determine the level of activity and student learning outcomes in mathematics class VA students of SDN 2 Kotagajah.  So that mathematics learning activities can be felt meaningful and produce activity and learning outcomes as well as learning objectives to be achieved properly is to apply the approach of realistic mathematics education (RME).  Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is an approach that emphasizes the conceptualization of teaching and has a tendency for students to become active participants in the teaching and learning process.  This research is a classroom action research with data analysis in the form of qualitative and quantitative analysis using test data collection tools, observation, and documentation.  This study concludes that there is a relationship between student activity and learning outcomes and the use of successful methods to achieve the desired targets.  The average percentage of student activity in the first cycle was 67% and remembering as much as 11% and in the second cycle was 78%.  The percentage of completeness of learning outcomes reached 52% and 76% in cycle II.  So, there was an increase in learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II, which was 24%.

This study aimed to describe the errors that student made in completing the Two Variable Linear Equation System based on Watson's criteria. This was a descriptive qualitative study involving 29 students consisted of of 12 high-skilled students, 5 medium-skilled students, and 12 low-skilled students in 8th grade at SMP PGRI 6 Malang. The data were obtained from the types of errors that student made using the Two Variable Linear Equation System question tests and the results of the interviews based on the Watson's criteria indicators. The question sets used in this study had been verified by mathematics education lecturers and mathematics teachers. The results of this study were: a) high-skilled students were 'less thorough' at work; (2) medium-skilled students were ‘using data incorrectly at the early stages'; while (3) low-skilled students ‘did not give answers' because they did not understand the concepts of the learning materials. The three types of errors frequently made by students were errors in determining the operation to be used (mhk), errors in determining the stages of solving the question problems (mtl), and errors in drawing conclusions from the final results (kh).
