The key concept of information science is the concept of information which is tied to a number of complications. The main problem is that there is no definition of this concept. The purpose of this article is an analysis of the concept of information from the position of classical logic. The main method of the article is a conceptual analysis. First, we briefly deal with the overview of the concepts of information, with concepts and their definition as such and with the scope of the concept of information. Then, we provide an analysis of 31 important definitions of the concept of information which were developed within the scope of information science and related fields, and we consider relations between the concept of information and the concepts in other disciplines. Conceptual analysis of the concept of information leads to the conclusion that information is probably a concept that somehow addresses the entire reality, thus that it is a term, which is in the classical logic described as transcendental. This fact, in the view of the fact that information science is a special field, seems to be a serious methodological problem. Problems associated with the broadness of the concept of information have three possible solutions: transformation of information science into the universal science, narrowing the concept of information to a special term, or replacement of the concept of information by a different one. At the end of the article, we briefly point out our solution to the problem.

The purpose of this paper is discussing the futuristic studies in accordance to the Western thought and how Islamic perspective provides the alternative for the future of human civilization. A future study is one of the disciplines which explains the future as an object to be studied and the present is the beginning to identify the phenomenon and its current change by the future. This has been done through contextual analysis with the primary focus on the Western and Muslim prominent thinkers who are Alvin Toffler and Ziauddin Sardar. The early findings showed that the Western thought of future studies develops the awareness on the impact of science and technology on human development which causes pressure, disorder, confusion and future shock. The Islamic alternative future studies offer the strategy with the system of consciousness, namely Tazkiyah which includes the consciousness of self, society and global mankind. Syariah becomes the main method for the Umran project and ijtihad for the development of Muslim civilization in the future. The finding shows that the challenge for the future needs to be tackled using ways that are able to form common values for human civilization.

A unified definition of the phenomenon information is not possible at present, because of the enormous number of different views. The situation is increased by the 'Capurro‘s trilemma' which postulates the logical impossibility of a unified concept of information. There are two approaches in the literature, which aim to solve the trilemma. The first approach avoids collision with the trilemma through the introduction of a generalized parameter to form rules of language for information systems. The second approach is understood as a draft of a generalized understanding of information within a yet to be developed unified information science. This article presents the approach of understanding information as an instantaneous process, which effects changes in systems. These changes must be captured and reproduced by the organization of the system, otherwise they get lost by fluctuations. Information in this reductionist conception is possible in each system, under the assumption, that it has several stable states, which alternatively may be assumed by the system . The 'Capurro‘s trilemma' is negated.

The paper considers necessary conditions for establishing information science as a scientific autonomous disci- pline. The lack of a commonly accepted definition of information is not as threatening as it may seem, as each study within the discipline may choose an own definition, as well as an own philosophical framework, when there are some alternatives to choose between. More important is the development of a common methodology of inquiry and some range of standard questions regarding the concept of information. Also, it is important to develop some standards of inquiry, which would make information scientific studies accessible to philosophical analysis and reflection. In turn, contributions of information science to the resolution of problems identified within philosophy will give the best measure of maturity for information sci- ence as a discipline.

The purpose of this review paper is to outline the constructivist approach to the notion of information from two perspectives. The first perspective explores the role of ‘constructed’ information in the ‘constructivist niche’ – a common name for the appropriate viewpoints in different science fields, such as cognitive and neuroscience, psychology, cybernetics and biology of cognition. The second perspective considers library and information science (LIS) papers in which information is treated as a constructed entity. This paper assumed the origin of the notion of information to be a construction as defined in the ‘constructivist niche’ that is based upon communication theory and cybernetics. Conversely, the origin of the notion of information as a construction as per LIS can be found in Bateson’s definition of information as a ‘difference which makes the difference,‘ as well as in the 1970s LIS definition wherein information is associated with the direction of a cognitive viewpoint, as in a ‘cognitive turn’. The study showed that ‘information as a construction‘, except in a few cases, did not play a significant role in the constructivist theories nor in LIS. LIS researchers reduce the concept of information to a subjective, socially-constructed entity which inherently results in different interpretations.

Abstract. As the criticism of the definition of the phenotype (i.e., clinical diagnosis) represents the major focus of the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) initiative, it is somewhat surprising that discussions have not yet focused more on specific conceptual and procedural considerations of the suggested RDoC constructs, sub-constructs, and associated paradigms. We argue that we need more precise thinking as well as a conceptual and methodological discussion of RDoC domains and constructs, their interrelationships as well as their experimental operationalization and nomenclature. The present work is intended to start such a debate using fear conditioning as an example. Thereby, we aim to provide thought-provoking impulses on the role of fear conditioning in the age of RDoC as well as conceptual and methodological considerations and suggestions to guide RDoC-based fear conditioning research in the future.

Introduction. The lack of a coherent systemology law does not enable the use of evidence-based formalization to solve the basic theoretical problems of law interpretation and enforcement. The development of an appropriate formal-theoretical apparatus is possible on the basis of a productive systemological concept. The justification of this concept is based on the study of philosophical bases and fundamental principles (integrity, dynamic equilibrium, feedback, etc.) and the use of logical and linguistic methods of problem-oriented system approach. Theoretical Basis. Methods. The conceptual and logical modeling of legal ergasystems, the systems analysis and resolution of the theory-applied base of technology of two-tier legal regulation; the synthesis and modification of private scientific results of the author published in 2000–2019, with copyright in the author’s scientific works and educational publications. Results. The contemporary conceptual variant of combined “ICS”-approach (“information, cybernetic and synergetic”) as a general methodology of analysis and optimization of legal ergasystems, as characterized by the following conditions: the substantiation of the appropriate three-part set of methodological research principles, corresponding to the triple-aspect physical nature of the study of complex legal systems as ergasystems; the clarification of the conceptual and logical model of the legal ergasystem taking into account the fundamental feedback principle; the definition of the law of necessary diversity of William R. Ashby is justified and corresponding conditions of realize of effective technology of two-level (normative and individual) legal regulation; the definition of basic concepts and methodological principles of modern systemology of legal regulation; the justification of the functional organization of the Invariant Rational Control Loop. Discussion and Conclusion. A developed conceptual object-oriented version of combined “ICS”-approach for analysis and optimization of legal ergasystems is a methodological basis for the development of a working formal-theoretical apparatus of legal regulation systemology. This will formalize the decisions of the main theoretical problems of law interpretation and enforcement, as well as developing and implementing special information and legal technologies based on the concept of information and functional databases and knowledge. This will in turn ensure the information increases the effectiveness of the system of legal regulation of public relations as an information and cybernetic system subject to the subjective organizing process of human activity and the objective synergetic processes of disorganization.

We have new answers to how the brain works and tools which can now monitor and manipulate brain function. Rapid advances in neuroscience raise critical questions with which society must grapple. What new balances must be struck between diagnosis and prediction, and invasive and noninvasive interventions? Are new criteria needed for the clinical definition of death in cases where individuals are eligible for organ donation? How will new mobile and wearable technologies affect the future of growing children and aging adults? To what extent is society responsible for protecting populations at risk from environmental neurotoxins? As data from emerging technologies converge and are made available on public databases, what frameworks and policies will maximize benefits while ensuring privacy of health information? And how can people and communities with different values and perspectives be maximally engaged in these important questions? Neuroethics: Anticipating the Future is written by scholars from diverse disciplines—neurology and neuroscience, ethics and law, public health, sociology, and philosophy. With its forward-looking insights and considerations for the future, the book examines the most pressing current ethical issues.

Aims. The barycentric dynamics of the Sun has increasingly been attracting the attention of researchers from several fields, due to the idea that interactions between the Sun’s orbital motion and solar internal functioning could be possible. Existing high-precision ephemerides that have been used for that purpose do not include the effects of trans-Neptunian bodies, which cause a significant offset in the definition of the solar system’s barycentre. In addition, the majority of the dynamical parameters of the solar barycentric orbit are not routinely calculated according to these ephemerides or are not publicly available. Methods. We developed a special version of the IAA RAS lunar–solar–planetary ephemerides, EPM2017H, to cover the whole Holocene and 1 kyr into the future. We studied the basic and derived (e.g., orbital torque) barycentric dynamical quantities of the Sun for that time span. A harmonic analysis (which involves an application of VSOP2013 and TOP2013 planetary theories) was performed on these parameters to obtain a physics-based interpretation of the main periodicities present in the solar barycentric movement. Results. We present a high-precision solar barycentric orbit and derived dynamical parameters (using the solar system’s invariable plane as the reference plane), widely accessible for the whole Holocene and 1 kyr in the future. Several particularities and barycentric phenomena are presented and explained on dynamical bases. A comparison with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory DE431 ephemeris, whose main differences arise from the modelling of trans-Neptunian bodies, shows significant discrepancies in several parameters (i.e., not only limited to angular elements) related to the solar barycentric dynamics. In addition, we identify the main periodicities of the Sun’s barycentric movement and the main giant planets perturbations related to them.
