The main purpose of the study was to explore preservice basic pre-service science teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs and attitude regarding science teaching. Data were collected by administering science teaching self-efficacy beliefs and attitude towards science teaching instruments to 100 pre-service basic science teachers (92 males and 8females). Descriptive statistical techniques such as mean scores, standard deviations and percentages were used to analyse the data. Results of the study showed that the pre-service basic science teachers have very high level of self-efficacy beliefs and positive attitudes towards basic science teaching. However, the respondents had some reservations about their ability to facilitate hands-on activities and laboratory work in their future science lessons. It was recommended that science tutors should integrate science content into their science methods courses to improve the pre-service teachers’ science content and pedagogical content knowledge.

One of the most necessary teaching competencies for science teachers concerns their self-efficacy belief. It is also necessary for teachers to benefit from educational research in order to develop their science teaching efficacy beliefs. However, studies are restricted. This study aims to analyze the attitudes of pre-service science teachers towards educational research and their science teaching efficacy beliefs, and the relationship between the two variables according to some demographical (academic achievement, gender, and the type of high school they attended). The study was conducted according to the survey research design. Sample of the study includes 517 pre-service science teachers (final year students) at five different universities in Turkey. ‘Teachers Attitude Scale towards Educational Research [TASTER]’ and ‘Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument [STEBI]’ were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18.0. Analysis of the data has revealed that there is a relationship between the attitudes of the pre-service science teachers towards educational research and their science teaching efficacy belief. One of the factors influencing teachers’ and pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs is the use of innovations and research in education (scientific articles, thesis, and new teaching materials). This study aims to examine to what extent pre-service science teachers follow the innovations in the field of education and use these innovations in their profession. Secondly, how the innovations in the field of education effect teachers’ science teaching self-efficacy beliefs is examined. Survey method which is one of the quantitative research approaches was used in this study. The sample group of the study consisted of 563 pre-service science teachers enrolled in the Department of Science Teacher Training in the Faculty of Education at six universities in different regions of Turkey. The data in the study were collected using the “Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument (STEBI)” developed by Riggs and Enochs (1990) and “Scale of Following and Using the Innovations in the Field of Education” (SFUIFE) developed by the researchers of this study. The data were analyzed both descriptively and predictively using SPSS. The results of the study showed that the primary resources (search engines such as google, web pages for course materials etc.) have been used and followed less than the secondary resources (conferences, symposiums, panels, workshops, thesis, and scientific articles etc.) by pre-service science teachers. In addition, it was found that following and using social media tools, thesis and scientific articles increase pre-service science teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs of science teaching.

This qualitative multi-case study aims to understand the self-efficacy beliefs of in-service teachersconcerning online teaching. The technological pedagogical content knowledge framework was incorporated tooutline the self-efficacy beliefs of in-service teachers for conducting online teaching successfully, especially in thisadvanced learning environment. The self-efficacy theory by Bandura and TPACK framework by Koehler and Mishrawas used as the conceptual foundation, and in keeping with that, semi-structured interviews were conducted withfive in-service teachers who were also enrolled in a teacher education program. The study found the high self-efficacyof in-service teachers regarding online teaching as in-service teachers find themselves comfortable in onlineteaching. Based on the literature review and findings of the study, it is suggested that the TPACK frameworkinformed online teaching should be incorporated in pre-service and in-service teacher training programs in order toenhance their knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes towards effective online teaching.

It was aimed to investigate the effect of teacher candidates' self-efficacy towards science teaching and technological pedagogical content knowledge on their self-confidence. In this study, pre-experimental design method was used. Thirty prospective science teachers from different universities participated. The trainings were given by faculty members and continued for eight days. Two different scales were used as data collection tools. While there was no significant difference in self efficacy towards science teaching scores of prospective science teachers of contemporary approaches education, there was a significant difference in TPACK self confidence in favor of post-test. It is considered that more importance should be given to the integration of technology during university education.

Self-efficacious teachers are critical in the development of students’ positive attitudes towards science and scientific literacy yet to date little attention has been given to studies of experienced teachers of primary science and development of their self-efficacy (SE) beliefs. The aim of this study was to explore how two experienced teachers of primary science built their SE beliefs and outcome expectancy. Bandura’s (1977) SE framework provided the conceptual lens to understand participants’ experiences and beliefs. Findings suggest that teachers’ SE beliefs had developed over time, creating a foundation for a strong expectancy outcome. Each of the sources of influence made a significant contribution to their beliefs about their science teaching capability and the value of science. Seemingly, their strong outcome expectancy enabled them to be persistent and resilient, overcoming challenges as they arose. We argue that a strong expectancy outcome is necessary to ensure SE does not weaken over time.

Teachers with a high level of self-efficacy and positive attitudes are more likely to use new and constructivist approaches and to create a learning environment in which students may develop 21st-century skills. Examining pre-service teachers’ attitudes and beliefs related to teaching allow teacher preparation programs to evaluate their effectiveness on beliefs and attitudes. This correlational research investigated pre-service elementary science and mathematics teachers’ beliefs and attitudes due to gender, grade level, and department, and revealed the reliable correlation between beliefs and attitudes performing partial correlation. Results show that females feel more efficacious in teaching and have more positive attitudes than males. 4th grades also perceive a higher level of efficacy for student engagement and using instructional strategies than 1st grades. Partial correlation coefficients revealed positive strong relationships between attitudes and efficacy beliefs. Recommendations are suggested based on implications.

In this research, it is aimed to examine the environmental knowledge and environmental education self-efficacy levels of Science teachers and prospective science teachers in terms of various variables. In this context, screening model was used. The universe of the study consisted of the science teachers who work in Iğdır province in the 2016-2017 academic year and the 3rd and 4th class studying in the Science Teaching Department of the Faculty of Education at Bayburt University. The sample of the study consisted of 110 science teachers and 110 science teacher candidates determined by easily accesible sampling from the universe. The data collected in the study were analyzed in SPSS 25 package program and it was determined that the data collection tools of the research did not show normal distribution. Therefore, non-parametric tests KruskalWallis H and Mann Whitney U tests were used in the study. As a result of the analysis conducted in the research; it was found that science teachers had moderate self-efficacy level, science teachers had high level, environmental knowledge score averages were higher than science teachers, and science teacher candidates were on average level. ​Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.   Özet Araştırmada, fen bilgisi öğretmenlerinin ve fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının çevre bilgileri ve çevre eğitimi öz-yeterlik düzeylerinin çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemek amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç kapsamında araştırmada tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılında Iğdır ilinde görev yapan fen bilgisi öğretmenleri ve Bayburt Üniversitesi Bayburt Eğitim Fakültesi Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Bölümündeki öğrenim gören 3. ve 4. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise evrenden “Kolay Ulaşılabilir Örnekleme” yoluyla belirlenmiş 110 fen bilgisi öğretmeni ve 110 fen bilgisi öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada toplanan veriler SPSS 25. paket programına işlenmiş olup yapılan analizler neticesinde araştırmanın veri toplama araçlarının normal dağılım göstermediği belirlenmiştir. Bu yüzden araştırmada non-parametrik testler olan Kruskal Wallis H ve Mann Whitney U testleri kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler neticesinde araştırmada; fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının öz-yeterlik düzeyinin orta, fen bilgisi öğretmenlerinin ise yüksek düzeyde olduğu, çevre bilgi puan ortalamalarının fen bilgisi öğretmenlerinin orta seviyenin üzerinde, fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının ise orta seviyede olduğu saptanmıştır.
