This article is about the Statute of the Indian from the educational point of view of equality. It aims to approach one of the branches of social rights, regarding education. This education is protected by the 1988 Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil and must be provided on an equal basis for students of basic education and indigenous academics. It is a fact that traditional populations, from basic education, receive an education in a different way, because of their language, customs. Based on this premise, the research sought to answer why offer differentiated treatment in basic education (primary and secondary) and not give the necessary support in higher education? In this context, we sought to get to know the reality of the indigenous peoples in terms of education, from the first steps until they entered the University. In addition, factors were pointed out that make it difficult for these scholars to remain in universities and the possible ways to attenuate the existing discrepancies in education and opportunity between indigenous and non-indigenous people. The methodology applied was the bibliographic review, with the use of books, legislation (especially the Statute of the Indian) and articles hosted in online journals. The results showed that despite the advances, there is still a long way to go to achieve an ideal education.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discorrer sobre algumas experiências vividas durante o desenvolvimento das atividades de secretaria do curso de Formação Intercultural Para Educadores Indígenas, no que se refere ao atendimento aos estudantes, aos docentes e ao público em geral. Serão apresentados alguns desafios do processo de institucionalização do curso assim como da inserção e aceitação do estudante indígena pela comunidade universitária. Observa-se que os indígenas buscam fortalecer suas identidades na interação com os não indígenas e mesmo entre indígenas. Há também um esforço por parte dos professores e outros profissionais mais próximos deles no curso de que os mesmos tenham seus direitos assegurados. A inserção dos povos indígenas na universidade demonstra o quão importante e necessário é a troca de experiências entre os dois mundos: indígena e não indígena. Aponta também para a necessidade de que se promova o debate e reflexão sobre os povos indígenas e suas demandas. Nesse sentido, considera-se que a reflexão sobre o dia a dia da secretaria poderá contribuir para o aprimoramento da inserção indígena na universidade uma vez que neste espaço o exercício de compreensão do mundo indígena para atendimento às suas demandas é potencializado.Palavras-chave: Povos indígenas; Direitos; Ensino Superior. ABSTRACT: The present work aims to discuss some experiences during the development of the activities of secretariat of the course of Intercultural Training for Indigenous Educators, regarding the attendance to students, teachers and the public in general. It will present some challenges of the process of institutionalization of the course as well as the insertion and acceptance of the indigenous student by the university community. It is observed that indigenous peoples seek to strengthen their identities in interaction with non-indigenous people and even among indigenous peoples. There is also an effort on the part of teachers and other professionals who are closest to them in the course that they have their rights guaranteed. The insertion of indigenous peoples in the university demonstrates how important and necessary is the exchange of experiences between the two worlds: indigenous and non-indigenous. It also points to the need to promote debate and reflection on indigenous peoples and their demands. In this sense, it is considered that the reflection on the day-to-day work of the secretariat can contribute to the improvement of the indigenous insertion in the university since in this space the exercise of understanding of the indigenous world to attend to their demands is enhanced.Keywords: Indigenous people; Indigenous rights; Higher Education.

The conservation of environment and the protection of human rights are two of the most compelling needs of our time. Unfortunately, they are not always easy to combine and too often result in mutual harm. This book analyses the idea of biocultural rights as a proposal for harmonizing the needs of environmental and human rights. These rights, considered as a basket of group rights, are those deemed necessary to protect the stewardship role that certain indigenous peoples and local communities have played towards the environment. With a view to understanding the value and merits, as well as the threats that biocultural rights entail, the book critically assesses their foundations, content, and implications, and develops new perspectives and ideas concerning their potential applicability for promoting the socio-economic interests of indigenous people and local communities. It further explores the controversial relationship of interdependence and conflict between conservation of environment and protection of human rights.

Sustainability has to penetrate more and more into higher education. It should not focus only on traditional elements. It should also enter new, but for future improvement, extremely important areas. Based on this premise, creativity and motivation, when additionally interconnected and supported by trust that is provided and achieved, decide on the progress and sustainability of universities. This connection is gaining importance especially from the point of view of building solid foundations and mechanisms that functionally preserve the potential effects of these elements in the future. For this reason and following the nature, importance, and content of sustainable academic motivation (SAM), the paper introduces two new concepts: sustainable academic creativity (SAC) and sustainable academic trust (SAT). For further original contributions, the paper hypothesizes the existence of mutual—spiral—relations of sustainable academic motivation (SAM), sustainable academic creativity (SAC), and sustainable academic trust (SAT). The empirical section tests the validity of this claim in the universities of two countries: the Slovak Republic and Poland. A survey performed on a sample of n=181 pedagogical, scientific, management, and administrative staff in higher education confirms the existence of these spirals. The results indicate the spiral effect of motivation when connected with creativity and trust and show that it is accented by the crucial principles of sustainability (responsibility, novelty, usefulness, progress, etc.). Therefore, the paper’s conclusion contains the explanations for the potential occurrence of three types of sustainably mutual systems and complexes. These are: (a) individual sustainable systems of SAM, SAC, and SAT; (b) group/sectional sustainable systems of SAM, SAC, and SAT; and (c) the global sustainable complex of SAM, SAC, and SAT in the university.

In the past decades, there has been a growing interest in entrepreneurship education, and many higher education institutions have developed specific programs and courses to support entrepreneurial competencies. However, there have been significant changes in how universities train competences related to business skills and entrepreneurship in practice. Whereas entrepreneurship courses used to focus on the different forms of businesses and drafting business plans, the overall perception of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial competences has shifted this toward a more holistic educational approach to develop students’ entrepreneurial competencies. In this comparative quantitative case study, we investigate the university students’ perception of the development of their entrepreneurial competencies in the case of Proakatemia (Tampere University of Applied Sciences). The aim was to examine how the entrepreneurial competencies are reflected and strengthened in their thinking and everyday functions through the concept of team learning. The survey involved, altogether, 64 students, of which 21 studied in Proakatemia. The results of this study indicate that the team learning concept of Proakatemia facilitates learning entrepreneurial competencies. Therefore, these results provide insights for universities aiming to develop their curricula, programs and pedagogy, thus promoting sustainable societal development. However, we recommend further studies, e.g., from a qualitative point of view, to assess the effective of the concept in other learning environments.

Karen Fog Olwig: When culture is to be „preserved“: perspectives from a West Indian research project At the same time as anthropology has begun to apply a more processual perspective to the study of culture as fluid and changing, many of the „fourth world“ peoples studied by anthropologists have become preoccupied with codifying their culture in the form of aboriginal, authentic traditions which can be preserved from change. This concem with cultural traditions is tied to the struggle for human rights by indigenous people. The concept of culture as unchanged traditions is not only in conflict with current anthropological thinking, it is also ill suited to the struggles of peoples who cannot claim this form of ancient indigenous status, but who nevertheless share with „fourth world“ peoples the same need to defend their cultural autonomy. Among this latter group is the people of the Caribbean, who are indigenous to Africa, but came to the islands as part of a process of colonization. This article is based upon a study of the difficulties faced by such a non-indigenous, but nevertheless „native“ community of several centuries standing, in their efforts to defend their cultural and economic autonomy. In the West Indian case modem anthropological theory and the population studied by anthropologists need not be in conflict.

The study aimed to identify the necessary requirements needed for employing e. learning in the (teaching staff) in the faculty memberof education, from the point of view of the teaching staff. In this study the researcher employed the analytical descriptive method and the size of the sample in which the study was applied was (127) individualsof the teaching staff with a degree of Assistant Professorand above The researcher has employed questionnaire technique as a study tool. The most important findings of the study are: The study has come to the fact that the majority of the researchers managed to answer the study areas which are summarized in (the requirements needed for employing e. learning by the teaching staff، which was specified by this study، these requirements are vitally important from the point of view of the teaching staff. The most important requirements for the use of e-learning in the university faculty member. It consists in possessing the competencies of preparing courses electronically, which means designing the content or electronic curriculum in accordance with the principles of educational design. The most important recommendations of the study are: Providing all the requirements needed to put e. learning into practice (for the teaching staff members) which was determine by the study to employ e. learning in the institutions of the higher education in Sudan.

Experiences of young indigenous people who study in an educational program from the National Pedagogical University of Mexico City are analyzed in this work. It puts into question some effects produced by ethnic branded programs, recognizing the contradictions and discriminations that the carrying subjects of these have, with the objective of contribute to the contemporary debate on the modes of self-recognition of indigenous youth in higher education and to stress deeply rooted conceptions such as ethnic identity, which continues to orient education policies in our context. From a qualitative and interpretative perspective, using the technique of focal group, were recognized areas such as linkages and trust with teachers, and how it contributes to the repositioning of subjects, their identity processes and Emancipatory roads. At the same time, it recognizes the present discriminations in the university, which are reinforced in some cases by the essentialist ways of understanding the indigenous presence, and some effects are discussed that produce the affirmative actions, which reflects confronting and contradictory situations in the processes of inhabiting the university from the indigenous student’s side.

The article discusses the potential opportunities for leaders of higher education to monitor and implement development management functions using a system of key performance indicators, which is often used by various business entities. The authors adapted it to the needs of higher education institutions, integrating them with their characteristics.The formation of a system of key performance indicators in the article is disclosed from the point of view of improving the management system and motivation of the management and teaching staff of higher education. Approbation of the proposed methodology was implemented in the Institution of Higher Education, where it showed its effectiveness. The new system allowed the university professors to influence directly on the bonus part of income through their own work and efficiency.

This article investigates the problem of defining ‘people’ and ‘indigenous people’ under the International Human Rights Covenants and their application in the Indonesian context. Using analyses based on the Third World Approach to International Law (twail), this article shows the problems facing Indonesia in identifying indigenous peoples as traditional peoples, in terms of being isolated peoples (Masyarakat Hukum Adat, hereafter mha), and the non-isolated indigenous peoples who were sovereign before the independence of Indonesia. This interpretation has been confusing in relation to the entitlement to natural resources. Therefore, this article proposes a new understanding of indigenous peoples, in order to arrive at better treatment and recognition and in terms of sharing power and the benefits of natural resources in the Indonesian system.

As Indigenous peoples employed at a university who are working to Indigenize it from within, in this article, we share our experiences, discuss some of our challenges, and show how we draw meaning and strength from Indigenous stories to ground us in our approach. We use Indigenous, anti-oppressive, anti-racist and decolonizing theories, Indigenous standpoints, embodied experiences, and emotive responses to make explicit the lived work realities of Indigenous people in mainstream universities. Through a dialogic approach, we trace one pathway for explicating Indigenous transgressive leadership in Canadian universities. In our discussion, we situate Indigenizing work as “willful work” (Ahmed, 2014). We call for a “strategic willfulness” as a constructive orientation, for Indigenous leaders to embrace, as we continue to confront the colonial, hetero-patriarchal and whitestream nature of Canadian universities. Most importantly, we underscore the need for Indigenous leaders involved in Indigenizing work in the university to draw from Indigenous epistemological and relational ethics in their leadership work, and to be strategically willful, interruptive and transgressive.
