Motion is basic and universal concept and among the major life experiences of human beings. studies by Talmy marked the beginning of cognitive research into motion; he delineated the systematic relations among surface and deep structures and, based on the representation of the motion event, classified languages into two groups of satellite-framed and verb-framed. The present study examined the representation of the motion event in the verb “to go” via corpus-based analysis. The corpus comprised texts from the Holy Quran, consisting of 88 verbs extracted from114 Quranic verbs meaning “to go” after evaluating the surface structures used for concepts related to this verb of motion. In collecting said corpus, the verbs were extracted from Al-Maány website and, based on the author’s linguistic intuition with regard to the motion concept of going in the Quran, the relevant sample was collected and analyzed. This study aimed to examine manner- and path-lexicalization verbs, and the representation of information on manner and path based on the lexicalization patterns of Talmy, and eventually investigate the consistency between the results and Talmy’s theory about the classification of language in terms of motion representation. The results showed that, in the Quran, of 88 verbs of motion with the deep structure of “to go”, 22 cases lexicalized the path such as Zahaba (going), Araja (ascending),40 cases the manner such as Haraba (escaping) and Farra (running away), and 26 cases a combination of the two such as Jaraya (flowing down) and Jarra (pulling on the ground) representing both elements of manner and path in the verb stem. Of these, the highest frequency in the manner of motion belonged to transition motion (80 cases), while only 8 cases were of the rotatory type. Another result was the inconclusiveness of Talmy’s theory about the classifications of languages in terms of the motion concept of going.

Human beings are deeply related to land. Human beings take birth on land, live on land, die on land and mixes with land ultimately. As stated in the holy Quran: ‘We (Allah) created you (human beings) from the soil, we shall make you return to the soil and We shall call you back again from the soil’ (20:55). Human life is surrounded by soil i.e. land. So, land is a highly completed issue of human life involving economic, social, political, cultural and often religious systems. Land administration is thus a critical element and often a pre-condition for peaceful society and sustainable development. In administrating land, Khatian or record of rights plays a vital role to determine the rights and interests of the respective parties as supportive evidence. In this article, discussion is mainly made on the fact that Khatian or record of rights is not a document of title solely but it may be an evidence of title as well as possession. This article seeks to discuss the virtues of the Quran on Arabic language. The language of the Holy Quran is of utmost sophistication and unsurpassed by human wisdom. To prove this, Allah has challenged human beings to produce just one verse of the same standing of the verses contained in the holy book. The Holy Quran has expanded the usage of the Arabic language beyond the boundary of the Arab Peninsular. Arabic has become a formal language in many non-Arab nations and it could not have been spread without Islam. It has also become the universal language of Islam through the virtues of Quran. Many languages have disappeared after some times, but Arabic language has managed to survive until today because of the Holy Quran. This article has clarified two important things. First, the miracle of the words of the Holy Quran that indicate rationality and second, the Quran has defended successfully its way of life and message. It is also very argumentative in addressing the unbelievers.

Paradise Lost has been treated as a controversial epic in misrepresenting characters among some religious writers. In this wonderful epic or out of that, the Satan’s story is a world of ambiguity and bewilderment for human beings, it still continues being obscure. The interpretation of holy scripts causes some misconceptions, overstating and exaggeration especially about Satan. Satan was expelled from the God’s mercy and from His forbearance. He continued to justify his disobedience, he was considered to be very arrogant. This research is going to survey or investigate the comparative and contrastive points of the Holy Quran and the Paradise Lost about Satan. Christian religion is issuing from Heaven and so is Islam. As well as the Paradise Lost was inspired from biblical verses. Hence some matters in case of Satan can be traced and surveyed looking to Quranic text and Miltonic text in this paper. Muslims believe and respect Jesus Christ’s Prophecy. Islam and Christianity both can be celestial religions with the same roots but some differences. In Paradise Lost Satan is presented as magnitude leading character, but from the other side Holy Quran presented Satan is a very wicked and outcast character. Milton attempted to draw God as a passive character and from the other side he also drew Satan as a so active character in his epic poem. Therefore, the similarities and some differences in favor of Satan would be discussed in this scholarly research paper.

Recurring episodes of transboundary haze have been similarly to an annual event in Malaysia since the 1980’s. Transboundary haze is typically haze caused by forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia which moves thousands of miles and encompasses neighboring regional countries. This is caused by human hands that continue to pursue unplanned development without taking into account the aspect of environmental sustainability. This study looks into and the understanding of recurring occurrences of transboundary haze in Sarawak. From the perspective of Islam, by making the Holy Quran as the absolute source of reference, God forbids the destruction of nature and calls upon mankind to do good not only to other humans and animals but also to the environment. Human beings are endowed with a great mind that can guide them to make and do the right thing, thus, various efforts need to be taken into consideration and be done collectively amongst the ASEAN countries in a joint effort towards reducing or preventing continuous episodes of transboundary haze within the region.

Islam provides a comprehensive way of life where the revelations bestowed by Allah from the Quran and Hadith cover all aspects that leads to a well-balanced life. This study compiles all the Quranic verses related to visual functions which may serve as a reference for Muslims as well as non-Muslim primary eye care practitioners during their patients’ treatment and consultation. A website named “Search Truth” on http://www.searchtruth.com/was used as a tool to identify the Quranic verses related to visual function by typing in the keywords “eye/eyes”, “see”, “light”, “sight” and “vision” in the search boxes provided in the website. The program embedded in the website then listed the Quranic verses based on their English translation containing the respective keywords. The listed Quranic verses and their translations were verified manually using the Holy Quran Tafseer. The frequency of Quranic verses for each chosen keyword was determined. There were 34 Quranic verses related to visual function and could be explained scientifically. The frequency of Quranic verses related to visual function under the classification of “eye/eyes”, “light”, “see”, “sight” and “vision” were 15, 8, 3, 7 and 1 respectively. The fundamentals of visual functions may be explained scientifically based on the Quranic verses.

The theme of Quranic commands is promoting collective goodness and virtuous qualities in human beings and providing preventive and precautionary measures to minimize the commission of crimes. However, in the event of happening of crimes, fair and unbiased justice has been awarded the prime importance in the Islamic law, derived mainly from the Holy Quran, Hadith and compilations of Islamic jurisprudence. The Islamic law has deeply embedded elements of what we call today as the restorative system; an alternative paradigm being advocated globally since the 1970s for tackling the trend of rising crimes and relatively low efficacy of the conventional retributive form of justice and the preventive theory of punishment. The law of Qisas (retaliation), the practices of conciliation or Suluh, restitution or compensation ( Diyya, meaning blood money), isolation, forgiveness, community service, warning, fining and reintegration are all components of the Islamic law which are very much analogous to the concept of restorative justice. In all these matters, the role of the victim is dominant and central, a mandatory precondition of contemporary restorative practices. It is particularly relevant to discuss about the provisions under Diyya; a unique concept of the Islamic criminal justice system which is the payment of money to the victim of a violent crime and is very much analogous to the attributes of restorative justice. Diyya is not just limited to homicide; its provisions are applicable for any injury or incident resulting in bodily harm, intentional or unintentional, caused by another person. The payment can be made in substitution for the Qisas penalty at the request of the victim or it can be imposed if any of the procedural or substantive requirements for the imposition of Qisas have failed. It needs to be pointed out here that Diyya is translated as ‘blood money’, a negative connotation, undermining the virtues of this concept. It should better be seen as one of the best examples of restorative justice in the criminal justice systems of the world in the form of restitution to the victim paid by the guilty offender. There are numerous examples of implementation of Diyya in Islamic countries, where not only the lives of those who had been awarded death penalties were saved but also the families of victims were paid Diyya to help them rehabilitate and restore their place in the society. The procedures under Qisas and Diyya being victim-centric, the final option that victims have in a case of intentional homicide or wounding is to forgo both the penalty and restitution and forgive the offender; an act which has been highly appreciated in the Holy Quran and Hadith. It is pertinent to record here that the credibility of the concept of Diyya, its utilitarian nature and its restorative character are unambiguous, not only because it is a component of the Divine Law of Islam but also because of the fact that systems like Diyya are in practice in countries such as Japan and Korea and had been prevalent in many parts of Europe just about the time when Diyya was included as a tenet of the Islamic law. The concept of Diyya convincingly illustrates as to how restorative justice could have an edge over retributive and retaliatory justice.
