This year marks the seven decades of the death of Игна́тий Юлиа́нович Крачко́вский, (1883-1951), Russian Orientalist and one of the translators of the Qur'an. His translation is one of the most famous translations of this holy book. This essay deals with Крачко́вский primarily as Arabist and Islamicist who published over 500 works, and one of the foremost names in Russian Oriental Studies. His studies of Arabic literature, both contemporary and classical, as well as Arabic history and geography served Крачко́вский as a background for his translation of the Qur'an done at the end of his life. His famous translation was published posthumously, in 1963. The edition was supported by the Russian Academy of sciences in Moscow.

The Law ◽

As written in Al-Muwâfaqât Fi Ushûli Al-Syari'ah, Imâm Al-Shatibi explained that every divine law (the command of Allah) must be prescribed on purposes and objectives. The desired objective of law is to fulfill for the benefit of humankind. Imâm Al-Shatibi divided the higher objectives of law into two categories: (1) the objectives of the Lawgiver (Allah as the Lawgiver), and (2) the human objectives (the benefits that refer to human as the doer of Law). The human objectives are defined in three scales: from the ‘essential’ (dharûriyat), to the ‘necessary’ (hajiyât), and to the ‘complementary’ (tahsiniyât). Furthermore, Imam Al-Shatibi explained that there are four steps in understanding the human objectives. The first is understanding maqasid (the objectives) through the purity of the command and prohibitions. Second,it is understanding maqasid through the existence of ‘illah (basis) contained in commands and prohibitions. And the third, understanding the maqasid through the law that related to 'adah (habit) and 'ibadah (worship) which have the main and additional objectives. Fourth, understand the maqasid through silence due to the absence of any occasions or circumstances for further declaration related to the certain matter. In other word, for certain issue, there is no evidence from the Holy book that provides the reasons of the law implementation even though there is a meaning (ma’na) behind the revelation.

The Qurʾān is recited by Muslims using different variations. The differences in the recitation require a separate printing of the Qurʾān copies (mushafs) that match the recitation of each riwayah. Observation on these mushafs found that the differences occur not only in terms of reading variations but also in scripts (rasm), signs (dhabt), determination of verses (fawasil), determination of divisions (tahzib), as well as signs related to stop and continue recitation (waqf and ibtida'). Insensitivity to these differences can cause a misperception that there are errors and mistakes in the mushaf, which is the holy book of Muslims. Thus, the objectives of this paper are to identify the differences between the mushafs in terms of the sign (dhabt) and make a comparison in the matter between the mushafs. This study utilised the qualitative method using observation, analysis and comparison on the mushafs of the Qurʾān and books that are considered as main references in the science of dhabt of Qurʾān. Among the important findings of this study are differences in the aspect of dhabt, which include differences in nuqat al-i’jam involving three letters namely nun, fa and qaf. Differences also occur in nuqat al-i’rab, including the signs of dhammah, tanwin, sukun, the signs of idgham naqis, hamzah wasal and lam alif. This matter occurs due to differences in sources and practices between the schools of masyariqah and magharibah in the placement of signs in the Qurʾān. If the differences are unrecognised, they may lead to the presumption of errors in the printing of the Qurʾān.

The Qur'an is the first source of Islam in the guidelines of Islamic life. In each verse and letter there is a meaning to seek a deep search of all implied objects. Therefore one of the potentials of man in taking a knowledge is reason. Reason becomes an intelligence in building human civilization in the future, reason is also able to guard and nurture man in all his ugliness and error. Therefore it is necessary as a Muslim to have an intellectual in understanding many things. In the Intellectual Qur'an there is a lot of influence on the meaning of attachment to every meaning contained in each verse of the holy book, one of which is the word Nazara (obsevasi) which is depicted in the letter at-Thariq, tafakkara (thinking) in sura al-Baqarah, and Fahima (understanding) al-Anbiya'. Then in all its interpretations using the tool of the ancient knife only believe to be used as a belief and some who research it with all its flaws, so that in this century a lot of authenticity and truth in the holy book of the Koran to be used as a source of knowledge to be associated in the current research both in terms of intellectual, emotional and spiritual.

Islam is a religion that regulates people's lives. This includes democracy and law enforcement. In democracy there are several views of Muslim experts, some accept but on the condition that the power is not absolute in the hands of the people, and there are also those who reject it altogether. In the ulama democracy accepted in Islam is deliberation and consensus in matters that are in accordance with religious rules. In Islamic democracy, it is very radicalism. This can be seen from the views of some scholars of Tafsir regarding Surah Al-Baqarah verse 143 that Islam is not exceeding the limit. Meanwhile, good law enforcement can be created because of a well-executed democracy. In Islam, law enforcement is a profession that is not easy. There are criteria and ethics for judges as law enforcers so that the law can produce a fair law. In the enforcement of the law must glorify God's commandments and have a sense of compassion or concern and a deep sense of justice that is shown. Democracy and law enforcement in the perspective of the Qur'an there are ethics that must be done, so that democracy and law enforcement cannot be separated from religion as secular views separate religion from worldly problems. Religion with the guidance of the holy book Al-Qur'an plays an important role in guiding democracy and good law enforcement.

The holy book of Hinduism, namely the Vedas, is a source of spiritual knowledge and scientific knowledge. Yoga and Āyurveda are part of Hindu science. Both are sources of holistic health science, where yoga is part of Sad Darsana and Āyurveda as a derivation of Caturveda, especially Ṛgveda. Yoga and Āyurveda will show their integrative relationship when viewed from the derivations or branches of the sacred Caturveda literature. If Caturveda is directly related to the ways of carrying out the union of the self with God using the ritual path, then Yoga Darsana is related to the discipline of self-unification using the path of physical, mental and spiritual health. In short, to attain union with God throughout life requires knowledge of yoga and Āyurveda, both theoretically and practically. One of the goals of health science is to provide a better life for humans. This health science provides knowledge about how to prevent and treat disease disorders. So the knowledge of yoga and Āyurveda is also learned to balance health conditions. If the science of Āyurveda can treat the human body, then the science of yoga can perfect this knowledge by being able to realize the balance of body, mind and spirit. That's moksartham Jagadhita ya ca iti dharma. If this information is conveyed communicatively by Hindus and readers of Hindu teachings, then misunderstanding of a knowledge can be avoided and then physical, mental and spiritual health will be achieved.
