This descriptive qualitative research essentially aimed at exploring the types of directive acts uttered by the main character in I Care a Lot movie. The data were taken from utterances of directive acts uttered by Marla as the main character. It was analyzed by applying the types of directive acts theory carried out by Searle (1979). The method of collecting the data was the observational method and non-participatory technique. Furthermore, pragmatic identity method and pragmatic competence- in equalizing were conducted to analyze the data. The results revealed that there were 15 utterances of directive acts uttered by the main character in I Care a Lot movie. There were 5 data showed asking, 4 data showed ordering, 3 data showed permitting, 1 data showed advising, 1 data showed requesting, and 1 data showed inviting. The type of asking became the commonly produced type because the main character frequently asked questions to other characters in I Care a Lot movie.

This descriptive qualitative research essentially aimed to find out the types of code mixing on Brown Sugar Battle video. Titan Tyra published the video on June 17th, 2019. The researchers chose the utterances of Titan Tyra that contained code mixing as the data source of this research. In collecting the data, the researchers conducted observational method and non-participatory technique. Additionally, in analyzing the data, the researchers applied bilingual-differentiating identification method and differentiating comparative link technique. Furthermore, the researcher applied the theory of code mixing proposed by Muysken (2000). The result revealed that the speaker frequently inserted English words and phrases in the utterance of Indonesian language. The speaker mixed language to do the review of brown sugar drink. From 53 data, there were 31 data of insertion and 22 data of congruent lexicalization. The type of insertion became the most frequently uttered type. Also, the speaker did not utter English clause in utterances.

Direct and indirect speech acts are the two types of speech acts. This study aims to know how indirect speech acts are employed in the movie "SpongeBob SquarePants." It employs descriptive qualitative research to explain the main character's speech act types. There is currently a scarcity of studies examining speech act types in cartoon or animation films; yet, it is necessary. According to this study, the result of this article is: first, there are seventy-four discussions of indirect speech acts obtained from all characters in the movie SpongeBob SquarePants. Each dialogue in the film SpongeBob SquarePants can be deduced to reveal the meaning of indirect speech acts. Second, The reader can use the domain analysis indirect speech acts summary to help them understand each dialogue in this movie that has a different meaning. This stage permitted the main characters to say literal things to the listener. The main character did not make a difficult-to-understand statement to the listener. This research looks at Yule's theory's utterances of indirect speech activities. As a result, the outcome differed from the prior study, despite the same issue.

This study aims to describe the  forms of expressive speech act uttered by adults in TPI in Pesisir Selatan Regency, Sumatera Barat. This  is a descriptive qualitative research. The data are any  utterances which contain expressive speech acts of adult in TPI Pesisir Selatan.  The analysis is done by using speech acts theory proposed by Searle. Data source of this research is Adult in TPI. In this research, the researcher used observational method because the data are in the form of spoken language that obtained in a Adult in TPI. Thus this research used notetaking technique in collecting expressive speech act. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act in adults in TPI, namely apology, thanks, sympathy, attitudes, expressing greeting, wishing, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing like, and expressing dislikes.

The purpose of this study is to find out the types of deixis and the most dominant deixis that appeared in the Avengers Infinity War Movie. This study applied descriptive qualitative research. For collecting data, the researcher used non-participatory technique and observational method. The data in this study applied the theory from Levinson. The utterances of the speaker is used as the data in this study. The researcher found 168 data of deixis. The data were analyzed into person, temporal, place, discourse, and social deixis. The result showed that there are 87 person deixis, 31 temporal deixis, 14 place deixis, 21 discourse deixis, and 15 social deixis. Based on 168 data, the most dominant types of deixis is person deixis because most of all the character in the movie used person deixis.  Keywords: Deixis, Linguistic, Pragmatic,

This research is aimed to find the signs then interpret the meaning of signs in Raya and the last dragon film. This film is the first Walt Disney project that was inspired by Southeast Asian cultures especially Indonesia. The design of the study is a semiotics approach by using Charles Sander Peirce’s theory. The type of research is a descriptive qualitative research method. The signs are collected, reduced, classified with Object Triadic; Icon, Index and Symbol then find the Interpretant through correlation between Representamen and Object. There are 30 signs found in the research. The meaning of the sign is divided into two categories, namely the meaning is appropriate with the story and the rest have representation about cultures. From the research of this film we can conclude a moral value: trust and togetherness and also pride about Southeast Asian cultures especially Indonesia can be shown abroad.

This research aims to find out types of negative politeness strategies expressed by the main character in the movie titled The Imitation Game. This research is categorised as descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research were taken from utterances identified as negative politeness strategies by the main character “Alan Turing” and analysed with theory proposed by (Brown & Levinson, 1988). Data were collected using the observation and non-participatory method. Additionally, to analyse the data, pragmatic identity method were used. The result discovered in this research are; 5 be conveniently indirect, 16 question and hedge, 1 be pessimistic,   6 give deference, 4 impersonalise interlocutors, and 4 state the FTA as the general rule, totalling to 36 indication of negative politeness strategies. Question and hedge became the most frequently used strategy the main character tends to assume unwillingness to comply to the other characters in The Imitation Game movie.

The aim of the study was to identify and analyze the types of presupposition implied in the BBC news of corona virus in Indonesia. In this research, the researchers used descriptive qualitative research as the research design. The research design was conducted to design is a qualitative approach in which express the outcome in words and provide an explanation of the result. In collecting the data, the researchers used the observational method and non-participatory technique by Sudaryanto (1993). In analyzing data, the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and distributional method. As for the theory, the researchers used the presupposition theory proposed by Yule (1996). The types are existential, factive, non- factive, lexical, structural and the counter factual presupposition. The research was existing in the  BBC news “Indonesia corona virus”. The research found the types of presupposition are existential, factive, non- factive, lexical, structural and the counter factual presupposition. The most type of presupposition which could be found is existential presupposition.

This research examines about the kinds of metaphors that found in the kato serah terimo text in Bungo tradition and the meaning of it. This research applied descriptive qualitative research in which the data are obtained from kato serah terimo text. It took from Bungo official office.The data are collected by observational method supported by note-taking and interviewing technique. After analyzing the data, it is found that there are 10 metaphors included into three from four kinds of metaphor based on Leech (`1981) theory. There are animistic, synaesthetic and concrete to abstract of metaphor. Animistic metaphor dominant exists in kato serah terimo.

<p>This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data sources are thevmanuscript and video of “Avatar” film. From the sources, the researcher takes 40 declarative utterances uttered by the main character (Jake Sully) to be analyzed. The research goals are 1) to identify the contexts of declarative utterances, 2) to identify the hearer’s responses of declarative utterances, 3) to explain the pragmatic force of declarative utterances viewed from the illocutionary force. Before define the force, the researcher explains the context for a better understanding about the speaker’s intention. The results of this research are, 1) every utterance has its own context: situation, participants, ends, act sequence, key, instrumentalities, norms, and genre, 2) the hearer’s responses are words response and act response, 3) utterance’s function reflects the pragmatic force, those 40 declarative utterances bring various forces; suggesting, appointing, reporting, requesting, claiming, thanking, asking, complaining, apologizing, confirming, blaming, ordering, advising, and sentencing.</p>

This research aimed to analyze the slang terms found in the Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2015) movie. This descriptive qualitative research focused on slang formation in this movie. This research used Bloomfield and Guth’s theories. The source of the data was all slang terms in the movie. Method of collecting data used observational method with non-participatory technique. In analyzing the data, this research used referential identity method with competence in equalizing technique. From this research, the results showed that there were 1 slang term in abbreviation such as teeth, 14 slang terms in shortened form such as wanna, i’ll, i’ve, they’re, d’d, thinkin’, doin',  hookin' up,  ain’t, y’all, gent, 'em,  ma'am,  meth, champ, shittin’, 8 slang terms in interjection such as fuck, fucking hell, shit,  cheers,  yep, bloody hell,  crap,  fuck off, 3 slang terms in figurative expressions such as bullshit, kick in, dumbass and 12 slang terms in nickname such as buddy,  babe,  bruv,  nan,  fellas,  pal,  boy,  mate,  love,  kid,  folks,  sugar. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the most widely used slang type is shortened form and the least used is abbreviation. Keywords: Slang Formation, Movie, Slang Terms
