This article provides a brief overview of the relationship between disaster vulnerability and demographic variables. Population numbers and densities are examined along with using a gender focus as illustrative of individual characteristics. For the most part, people’s and society’s choices create vulnerabilities based on demographics rather than specific demographic characteristics inevitably conferring vulnerability.

Incorporating demographic variables in brand management provides many practical benefits for service providers. Although the impact of customers’ perceived values on their attitude and behavior has been extensively examined in the past, studies connecting customers’ demographic characteristics and their tourism behavior remain scarce. Thus, this study aims to empirically investigate the role of demographic variables (e.g. gender, age, income, and marital status) in the relationship between perceived value and brand-related behavior. Specifically, the research conducts several multigroup analyses to examine how demographic factors link Malaysian customers’ behavior toward integrated resort brands. Demographic factors are found to associate with customers’ perceived spiritual, status, efficiency, and aesthetic values. Findings reveal that customers’ individual characteristics and perceived values produce different results in their future behavioral intention toward integrated resort brands. In addition, the impact of spiritual and aesthetic values on brand loyalty is stronger among male customers than among female customers. Moreover, personal satisfaction is highly influential among low-income and married customers. On the basis of these findings, this study provides implications not only for integrated resort service providers but also for destination marketers to develop micromarketing strategies.

Events constitute a subject on which is placed much importance both in practice and theory due to tourism potential they create and their various positive impacts. There are a number of studies conducted on events from various angles and studies dealing with event motives form an important part in these. However there are fewer studies analyzing the relation between demographical characteristics and event motives. Analyzing event motives according to demographical characteristics is an important subject that may influence decisions to be taken in the processes of creation, planning and management of events. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between spectators’ event motives and their demographic characteristics to determine event motives for festivals and sports events as well as which demographic variables create differences on which motives and to develop suggestions for event managers. In line with this purpose, a survey was conducted to include spectators of 14th Koç Sports Fest University Games, hosted by Pamukkale University and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality in 2017. A questionnaire answered by a total of 794 spectators was analyzed through explanatory factor analysis in the frame of the scale drawn with the help of Nicholson and Pearce (2001) and Polat (2013), and event motives for Koç Sports Fest were determined as socialization, sports as a lifestyle, excitement, event novelty, escape, and institution/event image. Findings show that socialization is the most important motive for spectators and motive of escape differs among all demographic groups. In addition, there was another finding showing that spectators having urban or rural origins created differences in every event motive, except socialization motive.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of anxiety that people experience due to the rapidly spreading Covid-19 on consumer behaviour. The sub-objectives of this study are to test the relationship among the anxiety caused by Covid-19, consumer behaviour and socio-demographic variables. In line with this purpose, qualitative research was conducted on 251 academicians working in Gaziantep University. Demographic information form, Death Anxiety Scale developed by Thorson and Powell (1992) and Consumer Behaviour Scale developed by Ang (2001) were conducted on the participants for data collection. The questionnaire was carried out online. The data obtained from the study were analyzed with statistical techniques such as factor analysis, correlation and regression analysis, independent sample T-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings of the study showed that the deprivation and suffering dimensions of the anxiety caused by Covid-19 have significant effects on the dimensions of consumer behaviour. It has also been found that there are significant differences among the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, the anxiety caused by Covid-19 and consumer behaviour.

The present study builds on extant leadership literature by examining the role demographic variables (including age, tenure as a leader at the current company, experience in the industry, and level of education) play as moderating effects on the relationship between leadership style and small business financial performance in the industrial markets. Financial data, leadership data, and demographic data were collected from 100 small, industrial distribution organizations. Statistical regression models were used to examine the relationship between the independent variables (transformational and transactional leadership styles) and dependent variables (year-over-year sales and profit margin performance), as well as the potential moderating effect of demographic variables (age, tenure, education, experience). The findings showed that transformational leadership was positively associated with the financial performance of an industrial distribution firm. It was also shown that the demographic characteristics examined did not moderate the relationship between leadership and firm performance.

The article presents the results of comparing the interrelationships between the individual characteristics of employees (gender, age, education, position and seniority in the organization) with the types of organizational identification that they form, the level of need for it, and the degree of attractiveness of the corporate culture. The study involved 252 respondents (185 women, 67 men), all — representatives of commercial organizations. Data collection was carried out in one stage, a questionnaire was proposed, which included three methods. The resulting material was mathematically processed using the Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Data are received that managers are less likely than performers to experience negative, ambiguous or neutral feelings towards their organization. The older the employees, the higher the level of their identification with it. The most senior employees are identified most with their company, as well as employees who have a long working record. Thus, a correlation was revealed between the socio-demographic characteristics of employees and the organizational variables under study.

[The study was conducted to understand the relationship between maternal conditional regard and offsprings' anxiety and depression as well as a number of other demographic variables. The sample is a convenient one of 416 students whose average age is 20.36 with a standardized deviation of 1.30. In particular, males accounted for 16.80% and females accounted for 83.20%. Participants took part in the study by answering a questionnaire that included questions about demographic characteristics and the scale of perceptions of maternal conditional regard, anxiety and depression level. The analysis showed that mothers' conditional negative and positive regard were positively correlated with offsprings' anxiety and depressive symptoms. In addition, the variance of students' anxiety and depressive symptoms explained by both maternal conditional positive and negative regard were 28% and 20%, respectively. In particular, compared to conditionally negative regard, conditional positive regard had a greater predictability of anxiety and lower one of depression. Consistent with previous studies, these results showed the negative effects of conditional regard on offsprings' mental health. Specifically, while maternal conditional negative regard is likely to lead to symptoms of anxiety and depression in the offspring, the maternal positive conditional regardputs the children in a state of constant anxiety and psychological vulnerability. These results call for the change in parental awareness of adopting their attention and love as a way of motivating their children to behave according to their expectations.]

This study examines the relationship between the perception of happiness and socio-demographic characteristics in Turkey using the Life Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute in 2017. For this purpose, nonlinear canonical correlation analysis was performed on a dataset of 4261 employees. Socio-demographic characteristics evaluated the variable set consisting of both the individual's direct perception happiness and the conceptual/personal sources of happiness. Consistent with the literature, it was seen that socio-demographic variables impacted the levels of happiness in Turkey. The main findings show that marital status has the highest effect on perceived happiness, and married people are happier than the unmarried ones. Age has a negative, educational background has a positive effect. For employment status, it is notable that per diem employees are unhappy. Besides, a detailed perspective to researchers working towards increasing perceived happiness by evaluating the identified sub-groups of working individuals living in Turkey is provided.

While outcomes associated with involvement in extracurricular activities have been shown to be linked to persistence and overall satisfaction with college life, there is still a paucity of recent research (Barcelona & Ross, 2002) that has examined the differences between college students who participate in campus recreation offerings and those who do not. Therefore, the primary purpose of this paper was to examine the association between students who participate in campus recreation programs and services and those who do not across demographic characteristics, as well as their perceptions of the overall college experience. A self-administered questionnaire was administered randomly to 389 students of a southeastern university during spring 2001. The findings in this study revealed that students were quite similar across demographic characteristics and perceptions of the college experience regardless of their participation in campus recreation programs and services. Despite the differing response categories for many of the demographic characteristics examined, expected responses nearly matched actual responses for the majority of each characteristic analyzed. Regardless of the findings, the use of this type of information would likely be valuable to a campus recreation department, as well as provide information for a division of student affairs to assist in better understanding the relationship between student involvement in recreational activities and the overall college experience.

Abstract. Recently, Garfinkel and Critchley (2013) proposed to distinguish between three facets of interoception: interoceptive sensibility, interoceptive accuracy, and interoceptive awareness. This pilot study investigated how these facets interrelate to each other and whether interoceptive awareness is related to the metacognitive awareness of memory performance. A sample of 24 healthy students completed a heartbeat perception task (HPT) and a memory task. Judgments of confidence were requested for each task. Participants filled in questionnaires assessing interoceptive sensibility, depression, anxiety, and socio-demographic characteristics. The three facets of interoception were found to be uncorrelated and interoceptive awareness was not related to metacognitive awareness of memory performance. Whereas memory performance was significantly related to metamemory awareness, interoceptive accuracy (HPT) and interoceptive awareness were not correlated. Results suggest that future research on interoception should assess all facets of interoception in order to capture the multifaceted quality of the construct.
