The paper highlights the investigations into the effects of the complex of unfavorable ecological factors which appear as a result of Chernobyl-derived contamination of farm lands on the intensity of peroxide oxidation of lipids and glutathione chain of the antioxidant system of dairy cows, as well as on the changes in the redox-potential of blood. The territory that suffered from Chernobyl-derived radionuclide contamination is characterized by the unfavorable ecological situation which is connected with the increase in the radioactive load on animals, as well as  with  the decrease in the part of soluble (exchange) form of biogenic mineral elements of soils. The above conditions make it possible to initiate a complex of biochemical changes caused by water radiolysis, by the increase in the active forms of oxygen and by the protection of the body from the products of peroxidation which appear as a result of the effects of radiolysis products. The investigation is aimed at determining the redox-potential of venous blood and separate indices of the peroxide oxidation of lipids and the antioxidant system of blood in cows kept in the zone which was contaminated by the man-caused radio nuclides , as compared with cows kept in the zone with background values of radioactivity and ᶨ- irradiation emissive power. The investigation results make it possible to establish that in the blood of cows kept under ecologically unfavorable conditions one can observe the increase in the concentration of the products of lipid peroxide oxidation: hydroperoxide lipids and malone  dialdehyde. Under the above conditions one can establish the changes in the activity  of the glutathione chain of the antioxidant system: the decrease in the part of renewed glutathione and the authentic increase in the part of oxidized glutathione and the decrease in the activity of glutathione reductase as compared with  cows kept under ecologically favorable conditions. It has been established that under the effects of unfavorable ecological factors one can observe the increase in the positive redox-potential of blood which testifies to the disturbances between oxidized and renewed potentials.

Complex research into biochemical aspects of the functioning of the antioxidant system for the protection of sperm of the breeding boars has established that the intensity of the flow of peroxide oxidation of lipids in germ cells is much higher than in the extracellular space. Reactions of free radical peroxide oxidation of proteins and lipids in the semen of healthy breeding boars are characterized by a stable level of activity that is necessary for the normal course of implementation of processes of the reproductive function. All components of the antioxidant system stay in mutual compensatory ratios under physiological conditions. As a rule, reducing the concentration or activity of some antioxidant enzymes leads to corresponding changes in others. The main antioxidants of the germ cell genomes are superoxide dismutase and ceruloplasmin. Catalase is a key enzyme that neutralizes H2O2 in the semen fluid of breeding boars. The content of total proteins in the semen of the synthetic line SS23 animals is greater (p < 0.05) than in the breeding boars of the large white breed. The processes of the oxidative modification of proteins in the animals body of the synthetic line runs more intensely, as it is evidenced by the higher content of the aldehyde and ketodinitrophenyl hydrazones of the main and neutral character in the sperm cytoplasm.

The study is devoted to the study of the flow of peroxidation processes in various organs and tissues of the body of rabbits of the New Zealand breed in the age aspect. We used blood plasma and homogenate of the brain, the heart, the liver, and the longest back muscle selected after slaughter, from birth to 90-day-age at intervals of 15 days. The content of total lipids and secondary lipid peroxidation products – TBA-reactive substances and enzymes of the antioxidant system were thoroughly studied in the prototype. The presence of high content of common lipids and TBA- reactive substances in blood plasma and liver tissues of rabbits at one day and 15 days of age was established, which pointed to active process of peroxide oxidation of lipids. An increase in the content of TBA- reactive substances was noted in the heart of rabbits with 2.24 mmol/g tissue in one-day animals to 4.85 mmol/g tissue in 90-day-old animals.

There is a number of factors such as the thyroidectomy and limiting subtotal thyroid resection against the background of euthyroidism and initial hypothyroidism (in any extent of operation) which leads to the prediction of early postoperative hypothyroidism origin during 10 days of the postoperative period. The early postoperative hypothyroidism is accompanied by activation processes of lipid peroxide oxidation and at the same time by reduction of antioxidant protection.

The aim: Objective of the research was to study peculiarities of free radical oxidation and antioxidant protection parameters of the oral fluid in children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis with underlying diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: Oral fluid was examined in 105 children aged 12 including somatically healthy ones with intact periodontium and chronic catarrhal gingivitis, suffering from diabetes mellitus up to 5 years and more than 5 years with chronic catarrhal gingivitis. The parameters of lipid peroxide oxidation (level of diene conjugates, Malone dialdehyde) and antioxidant protection (activity of SOD and catalase, POM, whole protein; ceruloplasmin; НS-groups) of the oral fluid were determined. Results: The results obtained are indicative of available probable difference in the examined parameters among children depending on their general state of health and periodontal tissue condition. The best parameters were found among somatically healthy children with intact periodontium. They deteriorated in children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis available irrespective of their general state of health. They reached the most critical level in children with diabetes mellitus lasting longer than 5 years. Conclusions: The course of chronic catarrhal gingivitis in children, both somatically healthy and those suffering from diabetes mellitus, is associated with increased parameters of lipid peroxide oxidation and decreased enzymatic activity of the antioxidant protection system of the oral fluid. The most considerable changes are found in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus lasting more than 5 years.

The study of peculiarities of lipid peroxide oxidation (LPO) and antioxidant defense in locomotor injuries was presented. There were 49 patients with complicated and uncomplicated ununited fractures as well as pseudarthrosis of ling bones. Control group consisted of 15 healthy persons. Primary products of LPO (diene coniugates (DC) and quantity of double bonds (DB) in unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) were determined in plasma. In patients with pseudarthrosis complicated by purulent inflammatory process content of DC and DB UFA were the highest. In patients with ununited fractures DC and DB were higher in comparison with patients with normal healing fractures. In tested group plasma lipids and erythrocyte osmotic resistance were decreased but ceruloplasmin was increased. Based on data obtained integral indicis for complex evaluation of patient status and possible complications were suggested.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by progressive decline in cognition, memory and intellect. It has been hypothesized that amyloid-β peptide (A-β) may have a prominent role in neurodegeneration. Oxidative mechanisms have been implicated in this pathway. There is substantial evidence that inflammatory mechanisms, induced by tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α), are also involved in AD. TNF-α activates receptors linked to multiple effector systems, including a sphingomyelin pathway and peroxide oxidation. We have determined the changes of neutral sphingomyelinase activity, sphingomyelin and ceramide contents, and the level of lipid peroxide products (conjugated dienes), in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum of rats within 3 h and 7 days of intracerebral injection of A-β and TNF-α. A single injection of A-β and TNF-α has been shown to increase the level of peroxide products in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex within 3 h and 7 days. Sphingomyelinase activity and ceramide levels have been found to increase 7 days after A-β administration. We found that activation of the sphingomyelin pathway lies downstream from the oxidative stress.
