The notion of using technology for learning is not new. However, the high level of digital exclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities is well-documented. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effect of two different pedagogies for students with intellectual disability (ID). The main objective was the comparison of assistive technology and the traditional teaching method for improving Urdu vocabulary. Using a quasi-experimental design, 8 ID students of 10 to 15 yearsof age were selected and divided into control and experimental groups. Their performance was measured before and after a six-week intervention program. The results showed that mobile-based technology improved the experimental group’s performance as compared to the control group. The technology had a positive impact on the learning of Urdu vocabulary by students with ID. The findings suggest that learning the Urdu language through game-based software/programs/utilities can improve students’ learning in the classroom. Teachers can use mobile phone as a learning tool to enhance their learning goals.

This research explains the impact of Contemporary Information Technology Application Progress (CITA-P), WhatsApp/WA application, in transforming the family values from face-to-face contact (Emotional and Personal Value or EPV) to non-personal contact (Pragmatic Value or PV). It uses quasi-experimental design conducted by pre-test, treatment, and post-test in Hagen lineage (HaL) as Experiment Group (EG). Then it compares by Control Group (CG) with the Limited-Treatment (L-T) by phone, Short Message Service/SMS, and Facebook/Fb in Sumer lineage (SuL). Data were collected by sending the Eid messages. Respondent consisted of HaL and SuL members. Contemporary treatment is manipulated by CITA-P at the HaL member. Findings showed that CITA-P has positive impact to transform the EPV toward PV, as indicated by significant increase in the larger IT-P score in the EG than the L-T effect in CG before and after implementing it.

Purpose – This paper aims to research about the effect of mind–body training on the development of emotional competencies of managers. Design/methodology/approach – Quasi-experimental design, i.e. before and after (test–retest). Findings – Results showed that the experimental group, after training, achieved around 15 per cent higher scores compared to results before training on all three subscales of an emotional skills and competence questionnaire (ESCQ-45), a statistically significant improvement in scores. The control group (no training) scores showed no significant difference. This result indicates support for the view that emotional intelligence may be treated as a competency and is responsive to training programmes. Research limitations/implications – Emotional competencies are still a contested concept. The participants may provide socially desirable responses because of the self-assessment questionnaires. The sample is not a representative sample of European managers; hence, there is a limited generalisability of the results. Practical implications – These research findings indicate Mind–body training is a practical method for people to improve the management of their emotions, and hence impact positively on core organisational activities. Originality/value – This is the first research on this mind-body training (emotional relief technique) in an eight-week programme in a management context. The findings indicate the positive impact that can be achieved on emotional competencies scores from this method of self-development.

Blended learning is a combination of traditional teaching method and the use of technology to provide a more organized learning approach in which it gives students extra control over the time, situation and ways of learning. This study investigates the effects of blended learning on motivating secondary level of students to learn English language. A pilot study was conducted. The sample consists of sixty secondary levels of students in a particular school in Shah Alam district, Selangor, Malaysia. The pre and posttest were used to test students’ achievement and the survey adapted from Gardner’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery was implied to determine students’ motivation level before and after the use of blended learning. The analysis through paired-sample t-test revealed that, there was improvement on the level of motivation of the students and there were significant differences on student’s achievement whereas they performed better after the use of blended learning. The use of blended learning has a positive impact in individual professional development and instead of measuring the effect of blended learning towards student’s achievement; attitude or motivation to learn a language, further studies should also measure the other impact of blended learning itself especially in education.
