Meristems are composed of groups of tightly-regulated cells that coordinate the number of stem cells in the central zone of the meristem with the number of cells migrating to organ primordia in the peripheral zones of the meristem. Mutations disturbing this balance can cause significant changes to the resulting plant structure. In order to buffer the meristem against drastic changes, it is necessary to have overlapping pathways regulating meristem maintenance and meristem determinacy. Furthermore, components and functions of these pathways are often conserved between plant lineages. While flowering in Arabidopsis occurs from the direct transition of the shoot apical meristem to a floral meristem, the grasses develop numerous axillary meristems that specify several different structures (i.e. inflorescences, branches, and grass spikelets), making the maintenance and identity of these meristems interesting areas of research. Thus, my first chapter reviews the mechanisms by which meristems are initiated and maintained through the complex organization of meristem size and determinacy pathways in plants. Members of the grass family develop inflorescences composed of spikelets, which house the inconspicuous grass flowers. One compelling difference between grass species is that, while the majority of the approximately 12,000 taxa develop single spikelets, there are also a significant number of species that produce paired spikelets. It is widely acknowledged that the subfamily Panicoideae contains many paired spikelet species, namely within three tribes that include significant crop species (i.e., maize, sorghum, setaria, and switchgrass). However, there are many cereal crops (i.e., wheat and rice) which develop single spikelets, indicating that the paired spikelet trait may be important to study as a way to increase yield in single spikelet species. My research into the semi-dominant maize mutant Suppressor of sessile spikelet1 (Sos1) investigated the developmental basis behind the paired spikelet trait. While maize plants normally bear paired spikelets, Sos1 mutants develop single spikelets in the tassel inflorescence and alternating rows of single kernels in the ear. A previous study examined this mutant early in development and revealed that the mutant inflorescence meristems were smaller than normal, which suggested a potential role for the sos1 gene in meristem maintenance. The objective of my second chapter was to summarize what is known about the Sos1 mutant, and uncover the role of the sos1 gene in meristem maintenance. Double mutants were generated between Sos1 and members of the CLAVATA signaling pathway, which is a well-known pathway shown to be critical for maintaining meristem size in maize, Arabidopsis, and other plant systems. Analysis of these double mutants indicated that sos1 functions in this important meristem maintenance pathway. Research into the Sos1 maize mutant also prompted a more in-depth investigation into the evolution of the paired spikelet trait in the grasses, which was previously only assumed to occur in three tribes of the Panicoideae subfamily. The objective of my third chapter was to determine if the paired spikelet trait evolved multiple times in the grasses. My analysis highlighted the fact that the paired spikelet trait originated before the Panicoideae subfamily. This study uncovered that species developing paired spikelets are prevalent in more grass lineages than previously shown, and highlights a pattern of repeated losses and origins of the paired spikelet trait throughout the family.

The aim of this article is to clarify the role of the organisations that support skilled migrants after a relocation, using the analytical concept of migration industry. The concept is used as a tool to explore the gap between the macro and the micro levels and by that stresses the crucial meso-level when it comes to conceptualizing (skilled) migration. I use 30 semi-directive interviews with skilled migrants and six interviews with key informants in the migration industry as a basis for the analysis, leading me to distinguish three main services at the heart of this industry. Each service is covered by distinct private actors: the basic needs of the family by relocation offices, the education of the children by international schools, and the careers of the partner by outplacement agencies.

Relevance and problem statement. Modern unstable society is characterized by narrowing the boundaries of controlled socialization and expanding the boundaries of spontaneous socialization of a teenager based on his immersion in the question arises about the importance of the family in the process of socialization of a teenager in the conditions of expanding the space of socialization. There is a need to study the role of the family in this process, to search, develop and test research methods that allow us to reveal the phenomenon of socialization from the side of its value characteristics. The purpose and methodology of the study: to identify the possibilities of a systematic and anthropological methodology for studying the role of the family in the process of socialization of adolescents in modern conditions, testing research methods: photo research on the topic “Ego – I” (author of the German sociologist H. Abels), profile update reflexive processes (by S. A. Raschetina). Materials and results of the study. The study showed that for all the problems that exist in the family of the perestroika era and in the modern family, it acts for a teenager as a value and the first (main) support in the processes of socialization. The positions well known in psychology about the importance of interpersonal relations in adolescence for the formation of attitudes towards oneself as the basis of socialization are confirmed. Today, the frontiers of making friends have expanded enormously on the basis of Internet communication. The types of activities of interest to a teenager (traditional and new ones related to digitalization) are the third pillar of socialization. Conclusion. The “Ego – I” method of photo research has a wide range of possibilities for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the socialization process to identify the value Pillars of this process.

The nature of children’s development is greatly influenced by the environmental conditions in which they are brought up. The amount of social stimulation which they receive is of particular importance, and even if physical conditions are adequate, an unstimulating environment which provides with little opportunity or need to experiment or solve problems will result in low level of achievement. Perhaps the most important aspect of the child’s social development is beyond the reach of the teacher. For the first very important aspect of the child’s development lies in the home. Genetic endowment and cultural level of the family, coupled with the actual physical conditions of the home will have decisive effect on the child’s development and will continue to influence him throughout his school life. These factors are inaccessible to be influenced by the teacher but it is as well for him to have them in mind in his dealings with pupils. In addition, he will need to know how he may most effectively change his pupils along the lives he considers to be the most appropriate. That is, he will seek out the most efficient ways of getting pupils learn for productive life in future. The topic under review will be approached from various fronts which include; The Sociological and Philosophical models; role of the school; Learners’ responsibility; role of the teacher; discipline and learner control; role of the parent; guidance and counseling services and conclusion.

Zakat is an important form of religiously mandated charity under Islam. It is the third pillar of Islam. The giving of Zakat is important for Muslims, as this leads to purification of their wealth from all sins. This paper examines the role of Zakat as an instrument of social justice and poverty eradication in society. Each Muslim calculates his or her own Zakat individually. Generally, this involves the payment each year of two and a half percent of one's capital, after the needs of the family have been met. One can donate additional amount as an act of voluntary charity but Zakat is fundamental to every Muslim. Zakat is the Islamic contribution to social justice: those who have to give charity share the benefit of their prosperity to those who have fallen short. This is the Islamic approach to remove greed and envy and to purify one's soul based on good intentions. This is the institution of Zakat in Islam. The institution of Zakat serves to eradicate poverty in the community and uphold the light of Islam. Allah says “whatever is paid as Zakat for the sake of Allah shall be rewarded in manifolds”.
