High economic value encourages the hunt for agarwood in nature to increase and not be controlled so that the existence of agarwood becomes threatened and rare. Gyrinops versteegii (Gilg.) Domke is one example of agarwood-producing plants that are native to Indonesia and have different characteristics from other types so that it is preferred by consumers. Exploration and study of Gyrinops is very necessary, because information about Gyrinops is still very limited, especially to find out the population and its presence in nature and which has been cultivated by the community. The study of G. versteegii population was conducted in 7 locations in four districts namely West Lombok, North Lombok, East Lombok and Central Lombok conducted on 16-29 April 2018. There were 210 G. versteegii individuals found with 20 individual seedling growth stages, 54 individual saplings 98 individual poles and 38 individual trees. The location of the meeting is marked by its geographical location with the Global Positioning System (GPS). G. versteegii can be found in various environmental parameters, namely altitude 99 - 925 masl; slope 0 - 36.6 °; soil pH 5.5 - 6.6; soil moisture 50 - 95%; Light intensity 212 -> 20,000 Lux; air temperature 26.4 - 32.5 ° C and relative humidity 66.5 - 90%. G. versteegii that grows naturally can only be found at the Aikmel Resort in the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) and there are only two individuals. Further exploration needs to be carried out in the area to determine the amount and conservation steps of G. versteegii remaining on the Island of Lombok.

The use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for real-time data collecting during ecological aerial surveys (EAS) in the Kruger National Park (KNP) was investigated as an alternative to post-survey manual data capture. Results obtained during an aerial census of large herbivores and surface water distribution in the northern part of the KNP using an onboard GPS connected to a palmtop computer are discussed. This relatively inexpensive system proved to be highly efficient for real-time data capture while additional information such as ground velocity and time can be recorded for every data point. Measures of distances between a ground marker and fix points measured during a flight (x = 60.0 m) are considered to be well within the requirements of the EAS.

In the embryonic stage, the usage of vehicle tracking systems were primarily restricted to getting the geographical location of the vehicular units. This scenario, however, was not perennial and with the escalation from a rudimentary stage to a highly complex archi- tecture for vehicular administration that we witness today, the standards for the vehicles security have also become monumental. With the development of V2X communications, the gamut of facilities provided by smart vehicle services has expanded prodigiously. These technological advancements, however have come at a cost. The gargantuan transition that has taken place over the recent years exacts a lot of security and safety mechanisms to be implemented, adjunct to the products and services it comes equipped with. In this paper, after a comprehensive study in the domain, we imply a security system model comprising of a Microcontroller Unit (MCU), as a part of the Vehicle Tracing Mechanism (VTM), well connected with a Management Hub. The communications be- tween the Vehicular Unit(s), Management Hub and the system Vehicle Tracing Mecha- nism (VTM) are made viable via V2X communications with conducive aid from technolo- gies like Global Positioning System, Radio Frequency Identifications and GPRS network. The paper aims to ameliorate the extant security protocols and improve the security and safety standards of smart vehicles by broaching cyber intelligence in smart vehicles.

AbstractThe Nubian dragon tree Dracaena ombet, which is categorized as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, is found on the highest slopes of Gebel Elba National Park in Egypt, with scattered populations in Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia. The Gebel Elba population is threatened by drought. Surveys were conducted in the Park to assess the condition and document the distribution of the species to prepare a baseline for conservation efforts. Eight sites were surveyed during 2007–2009: trees were tagged and their locations were recorded using a global positioning system, and tree density, diameter at breast height and population status were estimated. Of 353 trees recorded only 46% (161 individuals) were alive and only 27% (96 individuals) were in a healthy condition. Only 1% (2 individuals) were young trees, indicating a low regeneration level. Field-based observations suggest that 80% of the D. ombet population in Gebel Elba may soon be extinct. A conservation action plan is needed for this flagship species in Egypt and throughout its range.

The main objective of our project is to provide security for human beings especially woman and children with a help of an advanced electronics. As most of the women are subjected to unethical physical harassment when they are alone in public areas, in case they will be provided with an equipment fitted inside the shoes which is not visible to others, the equipment consists of GPS (Global Positioning System) and GSM module by which the geographical location can be tracked and can be sent. In the case of any emergency conditions, the button is pressed and the microcontroller sends latitude and longitude information to authorized persons through GSM. Then the location information is tracked and the information can be sent to police and family members so that they can be rescued in proper time. At the same time, they will be provided a high voltage generating device embedded within the system can be used to generate electric shock to temporarily paralyse the criminals in critical situations. The device is portable and hence can be taken anywhere we travel. It is economical and simple to use. So, it can be effective in saving many people (not merely women) from criminal attacks, sexual harassments and can be used as legal evidence of crime.

As recreation and tourism in parks and protected areas continues to increase, managers face rising concerns of degradation of natural resources and the visitor experience. Many park visitors are seeking opportunities to view or photograph wildlife. Visitor behavior in prime wildlife-viewing areas often involves visitors parking along roadways and exiting their cars to view wildlife. This creates a phenomenon known as a “wildlife jam”, as visitors park informally along a roadway, often becoming pedestrians as they view wildlife, while other motorists attempt to drive through. To date, no studies have comprehensively investigated this phenomenon. Our study characterizes the nature of wildlife jams on the Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park. Global Positioning System (GPS) technology was used to collect high-accuracy data on location and duration of the jams. Observations during jams characterize size (how many visitors and cars were involved) and visitor behaviors during jams. Preliminary results suggest that jam characteristics including presence of park staff, species involved, and location, can affect the duration, extent, and visitor behaviors that occur. Understanding the nature of these jams will enable park managers to minimize the potential negative effects of jams on wildlife and the visitor experience.   Featured photo by letdown102 on Flickr. https://flic.kr/p/57jUok

Assaults on women are becoming more common, and in cases where she is unable to use her phone to call the police or other members of her family, our proposal will be extremely useful in providing the knowledge about the attacks, and in providing the precise coordinates which point the ladies to nearest police station or the desired people for necessary action. Females were provided the prototype and that is unseeable to people. The apparatus will contain GSM , an Ar-duino, and a GPS (Global Positioning System) module that will provide us with our geographical location. These posi-tion values will be presented on the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). At the moment of an emergency, she will be able to touch a button once, and the incident is traced and sent to cops or menage, ensuring that she is safeguarded in a timely manner.

GPS: A Helpful Tool in Forest Inventory Abstract Positioning and establishing sample plots in forest inventories are tasks which require the definition of some criteria (methods and processes). This may be facilitated by using some technological devices that make the survey a very practical task. In this connection, this work aimed at presenting a clear example of application of Global Positioning System (GPS) used to give the geographical location (latitude and longitude) as well as the altitude of the land in relation to the medium level the seas of forest inventory sample plots. The sampling scheme used in the inventory was the double stage systematic process. It was noticed that GPS utilization, of location, sailing and as a tool to support forest inventory plot establishment, provides better efficiency in field work as well as improved time and resources use.

Tracking systems of moving objects provide a useful means to better control, manage and secure them. Tracking systems are used in different scales of applications such as indoors, outdoors and even used to track vehicles, ships and air planes moving over the globe. This paper presents the design and implementation of a system for tracking objects moving over a wide geographical area. The system depends on the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technologies without requiring the Internet service. The implemented system uses the freely available GPS service to determine the position of the moving objects. The tests of the implemented system in different regions and conditions show that the maximum uncertainty in the obtained positions is a circle with radius of about 16 m, which is an acceptable result for tracking the movement of objects in wide and open environments.
