This study is about the effect of metacognitive learning strategy toward students’ achievement in listening comprehension an experimental study at the second-year students of MTs.AL-MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram in the academic year 2016-2017. The purpose of the study is to know whether there is an effect of metacognitive learning strategy or not toward students’ achievement in listening comprehension. The research method was quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group design. The population of the research was all of the second year Students of MTs.AL-MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram, conducted of two classes as a sample; Experimental group II A and Control group II B. II A was taught by using Metacognitive Learning Strategy while II B was taught without using Metacognitive Learning Strategy. The researcher gave the Listening test to gather the data. The formula that used to analyze the data was t-test. It is supposed to know the significant difference between students’ score in the experimental group and control group. Based on the computation of the t-test formula, it was found that the mean score of the experimental group was 17,6 and the mean score of the control group was 9,2. After analyzing the data, it was found that t-test was 5,626. The degree of freedom (df) was (Nx+Ny-2) = (25+25-2) =48. The degree of freedom from 38 students as the sample. The researcher got a score for confident level 0.5 or 95% and score 2.000, for confident level 0.1 or 99% is 2.660. It means that t-test was higher than t-table. After the data had been obtained; it was found that metacognitive learning strategy has a positive effect on teaching listening. It showed by the significant value of t-test >t-table. It means that Ha (alternative hypotheses) was accepted because t-test was higher than t-table. Based on the explanation, the researcher concludes that the effect of metacognitive learning strategy toward students achievement in listening comprehension at the second year students of MTs.AL- MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram has a positive effect.

Background: All subjects of MBBS do not have same examination pattern especially concerning to question paper pattern and distribution of marks. As a result, students are experiencing variety of examination patterns during their study. Neither is their uniformity of examination pattern throughout the country nor there is uniformity within a university. In such situation, it would be wise to take feedback from students which could help in redesigning the examination pattern. This study was done to collect students’ opinion regarding current examination methods and possible changes that might be required in existing assessment methods. Methods: Questionnaire based study was done on MBBS second year students of Viswabharathi medical college. Questionnaire consisted of 10 questions about examinations faced by the students. Each question had five options arranged according to 5-point Likert scale. Results: 99 students participated in this study. 51.52% students preferred having two essay questions and 42.42% preferred having one essay question in final theory exam. 52.53% preferred to have 40 marks as weightage of one paper. 50.51% supported having illustration-based questions in their final theory examinations. 79.80% stated that at least 30 days of preparation holidays are required for them before their final exams. 48.48% preferred having five very short answer questions. 48.48% stated that weekend tests conducted by their institute were helpful to them. 66.66% disagreed upon increasing number of questions in final examination. 63.63% agreed on having MCQ’s. 48.48% agreed on having viva voce during every internal examination. Consensus could not be reached upon frequency of institutional tests. Conclusions: This study highlighted certain shortcomings in medical education with respect to examinations. Weightage and number of questions might be increased marginally to have a uniform pattern. Question paper should have more very short answer questions and less essay questions. Illustration based questions should also be introduced. 30 days of preparation holidays must be given before final exams for self-study.

The objective of the present investigation was to make a diagnosis to the students of second year of baccalaureate parallel "H" of Pedro Vicente Maldonado High School in order to determine that the development of the skill of listening through activities like the dialogue and closed caption and the use of technologies of information and communication, contribute in the listening comprehension and therefore in the English language learning. The difficulty in the listening comprehension was detected because of the student’s low grades in the subject of the English. The research was scientific, quasiexperimental, and bibliographical, the information was collected through the technique of observation with a checklist that allowed the teacher to evaluate the student's performance. Both the activities and the parameters of the collation list were validated and verified by academic peers. The activities were organized in a timeline for their implementation; later the results were tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted, and subjected to the Chi square statistical test for the hypothesis test. Where it was shown that the application of activities with the help of the ICTs of the listening skill benefits the listening comprehension and thus the learning of the English language.

There were two findings in this research. First, media that helped the students in understanding Listening Comprehension materials and second, the students’ reasons in choosing the media seen from two aspects: (1) how the media helped the students to master the micro and macro skill of listening and (2) how the media helped the students to understand the listening comprehension process. The first finding showed 74.13% of students selected audio visual media that helped them in understanding Listening Comprehension, while 25.175% and 0.695% of them preferred audio and visual media respectively. The second finding showed to improve to the macro skills of listening, 61.73% of the students argued that they were helped by audio visual media, while 38.26% of them were helped by audio media. On the other hand, 53.35% of the students aired their opinion that their micro skills of listening were improved through the use of audio visual media and 46.64% of them stated that they are helped with the audio media use. Film, television, video, computer, gadget, games and song accommodated all of the eight listening comprehension processes. Therefore, the researcher suggests that the teacher should use audio media to help the students in mastering the micro skill of listening and audio visual media to assist the students in understanding the macro skill of listening. In addition, film, television, video, computer, gadget, games and song should be used to support the students in comprehending the listening comprehension process.
