The current review is concerned with the study of the effect of different expansion devices (capillary tube and Thermostatic expansion valve) on the alternative refrigerants used in the domestic refrigerators to have better performance with minimum losses. This paper give the summary and range of various refrigerants used in the refrigeration cycle of global warming which affect the environment by the use of refrigerant, and our aim is to reduce the effect of global warming as well as optimize the performance of domestic refrigerators by using the latest refrigerants and appropriate expansion devices like capillary tube and Thermostatic expansion valve. R134a is used in vapor compression refrigeration system having zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and almost good thermodynamic properties, but it has a high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1300.So many researchers identifying new refrigerants and their blend which are environmental friendly and having low GWP and low ODP. Hydrocarbon refrigerants mainly propane, butane and isobutene are proposed as an environment friendly refrigerants. After reviewing the various literatures on the various expansion devices and hydrocarbons refrigerants and their mixture gives good performance in small capacity domestic refrigerator.

In this work, which is related to the current European Parliament Regulation on restrictions affecting refrigeration, four new three-component refrigerants have been proposed; all were created using low Global Warming Potential(GWP) synthetic and natural refrigerants. The considered mixtures consisted of R32, R41, R161, R152a, R1234ze (E), R1234yf, R1243zf, and RE170. These mixtures were theoretically tested with a 10% step in mass fraction using a triangular design. The analysis covered two theoretical cooling cycles at evaporating temperatures of 0 and −30 °C, and a 30 °C constant condensing temperature. The final stage of the work was the determination of the best mixture compositions by thermodynamic and operational parameters. R1234yf–R152a–RE170 with a weight share of 0.1/0.5/0.4 was determined to be the optimal mixture for potentially replacing the existing refrigerants.

Abstract: The capillary tube is commonly employed in refrigerant flow control systems. As a result, the capillary tube's performance is optimal for good refrigerant flow. Many scholars concluded performance utilising experimental, theoretical, and analysis-based methods. This paper examines the flow analysis of a refrigerant within a capillary tube under adiabatic flow circumstances. For a given mass flow rate, the suggested model can predict flow characteristics in adiabatic capillary tubes. In the current work, R-134a refrigerant has been replaced by R600a refrigerant as a working fluid inside the capillary tube, and the capillary tube design has been modified by altering length and diameter, which were obtained from reputable literature. The analysis is carried out using the ANSYS CFX 16.2 software. The results show thatutilising a small diameter and a long length (R600a refrigerant flow) is superior to the present helical capillary tube. The most appropriate helical coiled design with a diameter of 0.8 mm and a length of 3 m is proposed. Keywords: Capillary Tube, Condenser, Refrigeration effect, CFD.

The performance of an ejector as an expansion device rather than the conventional expansion valve or capillary tube in a vapor compression system is experimentally analyzed. Experiments have been conducted using 28 ejectors of different dimensions at the same condenser and evaporator temperatures, and it has been observed that for utmost performance, an optimum area ratio of the ejector is required. One of the ejector geometry has been experimented further for a wide range of condenser and evaporator temperatures. The coefficient of performance is found to be enhanced by at least 10% in comparison to the conventional vapor compression system for the considered range of condenser and evaporator temperatures and the maximum improvement in COP obtained is 12.83% at 14.3∘C evaporator temperature and 32.4∘C condenser temperature with 17.9211 ejector area ratio. The refrigerant R134a has been used as the working substance.

Screening for alternative refrigerants with high energy efficiency and low environmental impacts is one of the highest challenges of the refrigeration sector. This paper investigates the performance and refrigerant screening for single and two stages vapor compression refrigeration cycles. Several pure hydrocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons, hydrofluoroolefins, fluorinated ethers, and binary azeotropic mixtures are proposed as alternative refrigerants to substitute R22 and R134a due to their environmental impacts. The BACKONE equation of state is used to compute the thermodynamic properties of the candidates. The results show that the maximum coefficients of performance (COP) for single and two stage cycles using pure substances are achieved using cyclopentane with values of 4.14 and 4.35, respectively. On the other side, the maximum COP for the two cycles using azeotropic mixtures is accomplished using R134a + RE170 with values of 3.96 and 4.27, respectively. The two-stage cycle presents gain in COP between 5.1% and 19.6% compared with the single-stage cycle based on the used refrigerant. From the obtained results, among all investigated refrigerants, cyclopentane is the most suitable refrigerant for the two cycles from the viewpoint of energy efficiency. However, extra cautions should be taken due to its flammability.

An energy analysis study carried out on a vapor compression refrigeration cycle using refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP) of the Hydro-Fluoro-Olefin (HFO) type, in particular R1234yf and R1234ze fluids to replace HFC refrigerants . Computer code was developed using software for solving engineering equations to calculate performance parameters; for this, three HFC type fluids (R134a, R404A and R410A) were selected for a comparative study. The results showed that R1234ze is the best refrigerant among those selected for the mechanical vapor compression refrigeration cycle. The thermodynamic analysis showed the effect of the evaporator temperature (-22 °C to 10 °C) and the condenser temperature (30 °C to 50 °C) on the steam cycle performance. Compression refrigeration, including the coefficient of performance. The results showed that the HFO-R1234ze with low GWP gives the best coefficient of performance of 3.14 close to that of the R134a fluid (3.17). In addition, R1234ze is considered an alternative fluid to R134a for their ecological properties.

The principal objective of the paper is to modify the conventional vapor compression refrigeration system by connecting heat exchangers thereby heating and cooling of water is done simultaneously. The vapor refrigerant is supplied to the hermetic sealed compressor where the refrigerant gets compressed to a temperature of 100-120◦ C. The compressor is connected to a counter flow heat exchanger. Experimentation is carried out to design and manufacture a modified vapor compression refrigeration system. The main parameters considered during the design are connection of a compressor to a hermetically sealed compressor, keeping polyurethane foam as insulating material, adjusting the capillary tube and finned evaporators. The operations carried during the fabrication of equipment are bending, brazing and arc welding process. After the experimental setup has been fabricated the system is checked for the performance by using refrigerants R-22 and R-407.The results are plotted between heating temperatures, cooling temperatures with respect to time in minutes.
