Public educational policies, together with the university, expand subsidies to civilizational progress and national development. Around the world, universities began to participate in actions aimed at meeting the goals of Sustainable Development driven by initiatives supported by the United Nations. This article aims to identify, through scientific bibliography, the implementation of the theme: sustainable development in higher education institutions in several countries. This is an integrative review, carried out on the databases: Web of Science and Scopus. The descriptors and strategies used to search the databases were: sustainability AND universities AND sustainable development AND higher education; the terms translated into English and the Boolean 'OR' were used for all descriptors. After evaluating the selection criteria, a total of 34 articles were selected for the study. The results have shown that the practice of including the theme develops slowly and progressively in higher education institutions. It is concluded that sustainable development is a theme that requires multidisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity, and interdisciplinarity since it adds the need for knowledge and attitudes that enhance work between managers and teachers in the academic scenario. The partnership between universities, government, and companies can be an essential factor in the integration of sustainable development in higher education institutions, mainly in developing countries, and that many studies and advances are necessary for sustainable development to be carried out within a dynamic conception in universities.

Covid-19 continues to spread at an unprecedented pace, sparing no country in the world and including almost all ages. Although at the beginning of the pandemic, it was thought that the virus did not affect children, however over time, in different countries, more and more cases of children with Covid-19 begun to appear, though rarely among them were recorded any victims.  However, the clinical picture of infections with this virus in children was much more challenging than in adults.  In this article, we will present the case of three children of ages 4 to 14 years, with signs of acute abdomen, respectively with acute abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, and in whom acute appendicitis was suspected. In all three patients, anamnestic data showed positive family members infected with covid-19.   All three children were sent to the surgery ward for follow-up and further treatment.  The laboratory analyzes in all of them resulted in increased values of both erythrocyte sediment and CRP, while only in one of them the values of LDH and transaminases (AST, ALT) were also increased.  Ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen in two children showed the presence of a small amount of free fluid in the abdomen and mesentery thickening with several packets of enlarged lymph nodes. Radiography of the lungs did not show pulmonary lesions in any of the children. Body temperature ranged from 37.2 to 38.50C, while urine was within the normal range.  All children were hospitalized and kept under observation for several consecutive days. At the same time, they were treated with antibiotics of the group of cephalosporins of the third generation, as well as with antipyretics (paracetamol). As their condition improved and the abdominal pain subsided completely, they were released from the hospital with instructions to continue the rest and taking vitamins at home in the form of ready-made preparations for children. Conclusion: While the Covid-19 pandemic is rapidly spreading and not sparing even children, pediatricians and surgeons must be very cautious in treating children with acute abdominal pain since infections with Covid-19, and not surgical diseases, might be the real cause of these concerns.

Today many countries are participating in the implementation of the sustainable development goals in the framework of the global agenda 2030. The G-7 countries, having significant economic and political potential, play a special role in ensuring the sustainable development of the world. Despite the similarity of the political positions of the world’s largest economies on many pressing problems, each of them acts in its own way in the sphere of sustainable national development. The authors of the article intend to find similarities and differences in the actions of the G-7 countries to achieve the sustainable development goals. In this regard, a review of the G-7 national sustainable development strategies was carried out. As a result of the study, regularities are revealed and the features of the policies of these countries in the implementation of sustainable development goals in the period from 2010 to 2020 are presented.

Most nations of the world are faced with the problem of minimizing poverty and other challenges and Nigeria is not an exception. Nations of the world have devised ways to end these challenges. And one of the ways out of these challenges is the introduction of sustainable development goals as organizing principles for meeting human development goals and to sustain the natural systems to provide natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the ecosystem and the society depend. Another major goal of sustainable development is how education can be used for national development. It is the focus of this paper to point out how social studies can be utilized in achieving the junior secondary school education program for sustainable development. The method used by this research is a theoretical framework.

<p><em>Poverty, hunger and unemployment are social scourges ravaging many African countries, Nigeria inclusive. They constitute great obstacles to sustainable development and pose serious threats to security challenges. With her enormous human and material potentials, Nigeria ranks the 23rd poorest country in the world. To tackle the menace of poverty, hunger and unemployment, successive Nigerian governments have initiated series of poverty eradication or poverty-alleviation programmes. But these programmes, due to corruption and inefficient leadership, availed Nigerians nothing, as 61.5% of Nigerians, according to the  National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), are living below $1.25 per day. Against this backdrop, this paper focuses attention on poverty and identifies Zakat, the third pillar of Islam, as a panacea for its alleviation. The paper discovers that lexical repetition, lexical collocation, synonyms, presuppositions and implicature are diverse linguistic features that are woven into the textual fabric of the Glorious Quran to foreground the paramount importance of Zakat as a social security towards poverty reduction.  With a view to promoting national development and security, the paper concludes by advocating for an enabling law establishing a Central Zakat (and Sadaqah) Administrative Board that will be saddled with the responsibilities of collecting Zakat and distributing it to the beneficiaries as stated in Suratu-t-Tawbah,  verse 60 (9:60). </em></p>

This editorial paper summarizes the contents of the papers included in the Special Issue “Mountain Landslides: Monitoring, Modeling, and Mitigation”. The Special Issue provides an overview of methodological papers, as well as some innovative research carried out in the field and in the lab. Even if most papers adopted an integrated approach, sections representing the three research issues outlined in the title can be drawn: the first deals with monitoring, the second focuses on modeling, and the third is related to mitigation. Regardless of the section, the papers included in this special issue put forward methodological and practical implications that, more than likely, can stimulate further research efforts and support the stakeholders to gain better knowledge of landslide hazards in mountain environments, with an aim to tackle the urgent issue of sustainable development in times of global change that can affect landslide occurrences in mountain chains of the world.
