Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain in adults. It is a clinical diagnosis, as patients classically presents with pain that is particularly severe with the first few steps in the morning. Although it is a self-limited condition; however, due to the severity of the pain, medical attention is sought. Symptoms will ease quicker if risk factors are adjusted and multiple treatment modalities are started as early as possible. This article reviews plantar fasciitis; presents the most effective treatment options currently available.

Four hundred eleven patients with a clinical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis were assessed for predisposing factors. Each patient completed an outcomes assessment survey instrument that ranked effectiveness of various nonsurgical treatment modalities. Listed in descending order of effectiveness, the treatment modalities assessed were short leg walking cast, steroid injection, rest, ice, runner's shoe, crepe-soled shoe, aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, heel cushion, low-profile plastic heel cup, heat, and Tuli's heel cup. Treatment with a cast ranked the best. The Tuli's heel cup ranked the poorest. Most of the treatments were found to be unpredictable or minimally effective. The ineffectiveness of nonsurgical treatments noted in this outcomes study is at variance with most published clinical studies in which generally favorable results are reported after nonsurgical treatment for plantar fasciitis.

Condylar resorption (CR) can be categorized into functional and dysfunctional remodelling of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The literature describes dysfunctional remodelling of the TMJ as idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR). Idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR) is a well-documented but poorly understood pathological entity that can occur spontaneously or post-orthognathic surgery. It predominantly affects young women, with other risk factors including Class 2 malocclusion with steep mandibular plane angles. It is distinguished by a decreased condylar head volume and ramus height, progressive mandibular retrusion and an anterior open bite. Its aetiology can be categorized into surgical and non-surgical risk factors. These include hormones, systemic disease, trauma, mechanical load and surgical risk factors, such as magnitude and direction of mandibular movement, type of surgical fixation and length of post-operative maxilla-mandibular fixation. ICR is a diagnosis of exclusion, and identified by a combination of clinical, radiographic and haematological findings. Multiple treatment options have been described in the literature, including medical management, orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, TMJ and orthognathic surgery combined, and total joint prosthesis reconstruction. Further research is required to better understand the aetiology of ICR and more long-term, controlled, multicentre clinical studies are needed to evaluate the outcomes of surgical and non-surgical management of CR patients. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Idiopathic condylar resorption has many presentations and potential causes that can greatly impact the decisions and outcomes for orthodontic/orthognathic treatment.

Currently, immunotherapy is considered to be one of the effective treatment modalities for cancer. All the developments and discoveries in this field up to the recent Nobel Prize add to the interest for research into this vast area of study. Targeting tumor environment as well as the immune system is a suitable strategy to be applied for cancer treatment. Usage of nanoparticle systems for delivery of immunotherapeutic agents to the body being widely studied and found to be a promising area of research to be considered and investigated further. Nanoparticles for immunotherapy would be one of the effective treatment options for cancer therapy in the future due to their high specificity, efficacy, ability to diagnose, imaging, and therapeutic effect. Among the many nanoparticle systems, polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles, liposomes, micelles, gold nanoparticles, iron oxide, dendrimers, and artificial exosomes are widely used for immunotherapy of cancer. Moreover, the combination therapy found to be the more effective way of treating the tumor. Here, we review the current trends in nanoparticle therapy and efficiency of these nanosystems in delivering antigens, adjuvants, therapeutic drugs, and other immunotherapeutic agents. This review summarizes the currently available bioactive nanoparticle systems for cancer immunotherapy.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of inferior heel pain managed by many physical therapists in variety of clinical settings and wildly treated conservatively. It is usually caused by a biomechanical imbalance resulting in tension along the plantar fascia. It is estimated that 11% to 15% of all foot complaints requiring medical attention can be attributed to this condition. The patient typically presents with inferior heel pain on weight bearing. Pain associated with plantar fasciitis may be throbbing, searing, or piercing, especially with the first few steps in the morning or after periods of inactivity. This article present on overview of the current knowledge on plantar fasciitis and focuses on biomechanics, etiology, diagnosis and treatment strategies, conservative treatment including the physical therapy management are discussed. Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a commonly reported cause of plantar heel pain. The purpose of this study is to create awareness of the risk factors and/or events that leads to the development of plantar fasciitis. The identification of musculoskeletal factors related to plantar heel pain could lead to the development of intervention strategies and improve clinical outcomes. The aim of the study is to know the prevalence and risk factors of plantar fasciitis among middle-aged male and female population – a survey based study. A self-administered questionnaire containing about 16 questions was prepared and circulated through online survey google forms link. About 129 middle aged people responded to the survey. The responses were collected, tabulated and statistically analysed using SPSS software. Out of which 47.33% were females and 52.67% where males. 45.80% of the total population have a stabbing pain in the heel early in the morning and also with the long-standing while 54.20% of the population do not have this condition. 41.22% of the population experience mild pain early in the morning, 42.75% experience moderate pain,13.74% experience severe pain and 2.29% experience very severe pain early in the morning. Plantar fasciitis is one of the causes of inferior heel pain in adults. The patient has a gradual occurrence of pain along the medial side of the heel. The pain is worse when arising in the morning, which becomes less severe after a few steps.

Purpose The purpose of this tutorial was to provide speech-language pathologists unfamiliar with the rehabilitation of laryngeal cancer a basic understanding of laryngeal cancer and the factors involved in the treatment of the voice. Conclusion This tutorial provides an overview of the types and subsites of laryngeal cancer, risk factors, stages and prognosis, and treatment options at these stages. The readers will gain the foundational knowledge necessary to work with this population and a starting point for further study. More research is needed regarding voice outcomes and the benefits of voice therapy in combination with the available laryngeal cancer treatment modalities so that we may better serve these patients.

Ultraviolent (UV) solar radiation is considered to be the dominant risk factor for development of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The development of BCC is thought to arise from intense, intermittent sun exposure leading to burns. Identifying patients with high-risk factors for developing BCC includes chronic immunosuppression, exposure to ionizing radiation, and certain genetic syndromes. Primary treatment goals of BCC include cure of tumor with maximal preservation of function. Although rarely metastatic, BCC can produce substantial local destruction. Treatment modalities can be divided into surgical and nonsurgical therapies, although surgical therapy is the mainstay of treatment. Superficial therapies, such as topical imiquimod or 5-fluorouracil, photodynamic therapy, or cryotherapy, may be effective for anatomically challenging locations where surgery or radiation is contraindicated, but the cure rates of these approaches are lower compared with surgery. Recent FDA-approved hedgehog pathway inhibitors include vismodegib and sonidegib for patients who have exhausted surgical and radiation options for treating advanced BCC. Clinical Scenario:Plantar fasciitis is a debilitating and painful problem present in the general population. It most often presents with moderate to severe pain in the proximal inferior heel region and is most commonly associated with repeated trauma to the plantar fascia. Plantar fasciitis, itself, is an injury at the site of attachment at the medial tubercle of the calcaneus, often due to excessive and repetitive traction. Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain and is estimated to affect 2 million people in the United States alone.Focused Clinical Question:For adults suffering from plantar fasciitis, are foot orthoses a viable treatment option to reduce pain?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over 50 in developed countries. Understanding of the pathologic process, genetic mechanisms, and risk factors of this disease has the benefit of seeking newer and more effective treatment options. Current clinical therapy for AMD shows a dramatic change from a decade ago. Anti-VEGF drug therapy is regarded as the more effective treatment for neovascular AMD now, especially combining PDT therapy. In the future, the genetic and biochemical therapies may be the promising treatments for AMD. This paper will focus on the progress of pathology, candidate genes of AMD, risk factors, and the existing drugs or surgical therapies available, in order to present some new directions of care with the prospect of improved vision in many patients suffered from AMD.
