According to a 2008 report by the Social Planning Council of Ottawa, many immigrants in Ottawa perceived schools to be a contributing factor to their sense of societal exclusion. It has been suggested that if teachers received more appropriate adequate teacher training, they could better help minimize problems of exclusion (Gerin-Lajoie, 2008a. 2008c; Abbate-Vaughn, 2008; Ghosh, 1996). This paper explores training topics that could promote the inclusion of immigrants in schools, while also questioning whether it is possible to assume that teacher training can have an impact. The opinions of three Ottawa-Carleton District School Board teachers are discussed. An examination of additional ways in which inclusion can be addressed is also provided.

Abstract: This article establishes relations between cinema and education, considering the dimension of the first as a valuable contribution to current pedagogies. From the multiple branches of the arts, the field of cinema and its diversity of genre, offers enriching elements to feed pedagogical and research practices. This is the case of direct cinema, which from its documentary and social approach, contributes to an artistic and pedagogical reflection, both from the topics it deals with and from the technical modes that present these contents. Indeed, direct cinema emerges at the heart of the social transformations of the 60s and 70s and converges with the different changes of the same era: narrative turn in research and the shift of traditional education towards alternative pedagogies. We will see in this writing, through the genre of direct cinema, the contributions of cinema in the field of education, research and socially. For this, from the analysis of extracts from the film National Gallery by Frederick Wiseman, we will establish interconnections with artistic education and teacher training, taking into account the contents and ways of filming to present them. In this sense, cinema gives us a particular way of looking at and analyzing pedagogical transformations and emerging knowledge in our time.  Keywords: teacher training, research-creation, interdisciplinary interactions

The article shows the potential of application of the participative methodologies of investigation and social planning for a participative management of the knowledge and the development of intervention strategies in the territory. In this context, an investigation based on action-participation research methodologies implemented in a business initiative of a locality of the Valencian Community is shown. Thus, the influential nature and ability to integrate knowledge, knowledge and learning of the various social and institutional actors favor the promotion and development of strategies capable of responding to the different existing or detected problems. In this sense, it should be noted that in the scientific literature there are still few studies that specifically address participatory action research in the business sector. This becomes a novel contribution of scientific interest to the article. In this context, the text presents a work methodology and the design of a tool that involves the inclusion of negotiations and plural participation in the research process. As well as the subsequent transfer of the different proposals to a matrix that allows to visualize and serve as a guide for decision making. The work also gives an account of the evaluation of the initiatives implemented over time from the reflective processes of the subjects, making an analysis of the scope and limitations of its methodology both in the business sector and in the social structure of the territory.

The urban revolution, the social effects of the population explosion, concentration in huge cities, and the mobility of modern society all tend to make people regard themselves as insignificant and helpless. You have to understand many such things in order to think logically about social disorganization and its ugliest manifestation—crime. I wonder about the four-martini expense account lunch, the lost weekend in suburbia, the divorce rate, and the indications of immorality I see in widespread cheating of the tax system. What does all this mean to crime? Crime can be successfully combated only through a joining of forces by all the leadership elements who are interested in adjusting the nation to its new growth. This will involve an expansion of both public and private services. It will demand a new approach, one calling for total social planning and far more coordination than has so far been attempted. It may also require new social units within the urban mass— small communities of some sort that can retain human individ uality and personal responsibility.

Social planning is on the road to becoming more professional and is taking its first steps towards developing mutual international understanding. This anthology presents the avenues being pursued in social planning in these respects in terms of training, practice and teaching, and illustrates their practical value in the areas of social work, youth work and the social integration of people with disabilities. Its contributions on social planning in Germany, Austria and Switzerland shed light on this subject on an international level, which reveals that this discipline, or rather the project of social planning, which is historically still in its infancy, differs significantly. For instance, in contrast to social planning being implemented on an almost nationwide level in Germany, it has only been established in individual regions in Austria and Switzerland, although social planning practices can be found without the term social planning being explicitly used to denote them. This book is recommended for all those who teach, practise or are interested in social planning.

ABSTRACT This research considers that the inclusion of theater in the initial teacher training represents a significant improvement of curriculum and teacher professional development. Several worldwide initiatives aimed to raise the quality of initial teacher training is one of the current reforms’ axes and agreement that improving educational system depends on the quality of their teachers. However, the current demands in education go beyond a set of measures or resources. Education requires a new professor, an integral and effective communicator, capable of handling different types of languages and dialogues with multiple intelligences. An innovative teacher, who is able to understand the cultural diversity of a society which constantly renews its knowledge of the universe and that has changed the social life and the nature of its spatialtemporal relationships. Using a multidisciplinary approach, it is intended to show that theatrical resource contributes significantly to the construction of a new teachers’ profile, by putting at his disposal communication tools (verbal and non-verbal) which allow him to enhance different aspects of his professional development: physical, cognitive and emotional. Contacto principal: [email protected]
