International expenditures for scientific research are important for small island developing nations, especially for those local communities that directly support research activities. We used the Abaco Islands, The Bahamas, as a case study to quantify the direct monetary inputs to a local economy via internationally-funded scientific research. We found that over two years the external monetary influx was $995,310, via 24 research teams, that was spent across diverse business sectors on Abaco. A direct survey approach ensured this was a conservative estimate, leaving out numerous indirect economic impacts, thereby suggesting the actual monetary infusion was significantly higher. The highest expenditures were for services (e.g., local salaries and boat guides), lodging, food/drink, and major equipment (e.g., vehicles). In addition to the research-based contributions that give rise to conservation and management decision-making, scientific activity brings benefits through the injection of money into local island economies. This relationship warrants study at larger regional scales, including across The Bahamas archipelago.

The features of scientific activity of scientific and industrial enterprises are considered. The analysis of the functioning of a research and production enterprise in carrying out complex scientific research has been carried out. The contour of scientific research management is presented in the form of the main stages of the technological process of their implementation. The possibility of using the program-target approach as an effective strategy for managing research in solving complex and complex problems of a research and production enterprise is shown. An example of a matrix organizational structure of management is given as the most effective for the approach under consideration, with a description of the main stages. The use of automated information systems to improve the efficiency of research management is proposed. The diagram of the inclusion of an automated information system in the general structure of management of scientific research of the enterprise is shown. The described methods have been introduced in the NPO "Lakokraspokrytie" and are successfully used in the implementation of innovative projects for the development, design and commissioning of energy-saving painting lines, within the framework of one of which a painting line for freight cars was designed and put into operation JSC "SPC "Uralvagonzavod" in Nizhny Tagil city, which allows painting up to 16 thousand different modifications of freight cars per year

Introduction. The present article outlines the results of a theoretical and practical study of the mechanisms of hypothesis in scientific research on the problems of education. The current research is aimed to study the methodological resources for improving the quality of scientific research on the problems of education through understanding the errors in hypothesising as a methodological reflection subject of a teacher-researcher.Methodology and research methods are based on an activity-personal approach to the cognition of the education process and on research activities to investigate this process. In addition, the following areas of modern pedagogical science are used as the methodological framework of the study: the study of the axiological and conceptual foundations of scientific activity with an appeal to the cultural and historical concept; a hermeneutic phenomenological approach aimed at updating the interpretive potential of scientific texts; classical methods of theoretical analysis and synthesis, deduction and induction, comparison, modelling and extrapolation as tools for studying the research activities of a teacher, as well as methods of expert assessment and included observation. The methodology is based on the criticism of the methodological concept of inductivism and involves the addition of a hypothetical-deductive method with the idea of prolonged end-to-end hypothesising, based on reflexive reassessment and prevention of meaning-making errors by the researcher.Results. As a result of the study, the mechanisms of trans-level conceptualisation of pedagogical knowledge in the process of working out the methodological apparatus of scientific research were revealed. In addition to the existing ones, unconventional - special - requirements for scientific hypotheses are justified, aimed at updating their prognostic and diagnostic functions. The systematisation of hypothesis errors was carried out, which makes it possible to regulate reflexive scientific and pedagogical search, to carry out feedback in the process of methodological preparation and self-education, and to stimulate the development of scientifically justified heuristic pedagogical solutions. Methodological resources and positive results of using knowledge about the productive possibilities of preventive error management activities in the practice of training teachers-researchers are shown: pedagogical goals and installations of research activities, principles, specific didactic means of formation of methodological competence and error management.Scientific novelty. The phenomenon of hypothesis error was first described in the context of the conceptualisation and interconnection of elements of the methodological apparatus of scientific research, taking into account the prolongation, cumulativeness and trans-level of the hypothesis nomination process as a regulator of scientific search.Practical significance. The research results are recommended to be applied in the preparation of curricula for the course “Methodology of Scientific and Pedagogical Research” and as didactic material for academic studies in the process of teacher-researcher training in the framework of master’s, postgraduate, doctoral and postgraduate self-education. The proposed typology of hypothesis errors is used in the development of methodological requirements for the scientific level of dissertation studies on the problems of education.

This article examines and summarizes the views of the authors involved in the study of student participation in research activities. The concept of "motivation for research activity" is specified, the content of scientific research as a special type of intellectual activity of a person is characterized. Further, the authors on the basis of the method of interviewing collected, analyzed and summarized the material, which allowed to identify the motives that encourage students of higher educational institutions to participate in activities of a scientific and research nature. The main motives were defined: the remunerations received by the student as a result of participation in scientific research; the desire to realize the existing abilities for scientific activity; disclosure of other abilities or satisfaction of other needs for which research activity is a means to achieve goals. Also, the authors identified the lack of interest on the part of students to research activities, formulated and justified the reasons for the lack of motivation of students to this activity. According to the results of the study, recommendations were developed, the introduction of which in the educational process will increase the motivation of students to research activities carried out independently or under the guidance of experienced teachers and researchers of higher educational institutions.

Abstract. Based on responses from 158 reward managers located at the headquarters or subsidiaries of multinational enterprises, the present study examines the relationship between the centralization of reward management decision making and its perceived effectiveness in multinational enterprises. Our results show that headquarters managers perceive a centralized approach as being more effective, while for subsidiary managers this relationship is moderated by the manager’s role identity. Referring to social identity theory, the present study enriches the standardization versus localization debate through a new perspective focusing on psychological processes, thereby indicating the importance of in-group favoritism in headquarters and the influence of subsidiary managers’ role identities on reward management decision making.
