The present review describes pathogenetic mechanisms and clinical features of COVID-19 associated delirium. Potential factors leading to the named condition and pathophysiological chains were described elaborately, including older adults’ manifestation analysis based on the latest clinical studies. A systematic literature review was conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, e-library, Google Scholar and others.

A literature review is devoted to the problem of comorbidity of obesity (Ob) and infections. At present, extensive material has been accumulated about the increased propensity of patients with Ob to various infections (respiratory, urinary, viral, nosocomial, postoperative). One of the pathogenetic mechanisms of infection development in patients with Ob is dysfunction of cellular and humoral immunity, induced by adipose tissue production of cytokines (adipokines), which have an immunomodulating effect in various directions. Further research is needed in the field of epidemiology, mechanisms of development and course of infections in patients with Ob, as well as developing tactics for conducting this category of patients (diagnosis, antibiotic therapy, preoperative preparation, etc.).

The literature review describes various methods for treating patients with lymphedema of the extremities. Statistics show an increase in the incidence and disability of patients with this pathology. However, the possibilities of therapeutic measures in lymphedema are far from perfect. The analysis of literature data showed that the basis of treatment for lymphedema of the extremities is comprehensive conservative therapy with the use of pathogenetically grounded physical, mechanical, and medical methods. In complex schemes of conservative treatment for lymphedema, physiotherapy methods occupy a prominent place. The most common technique among them is regular combined decongestive therapy. This method is recognized by leading experts as the main one in treating patients with lower extremity lymphedema. Commitment of patients to treatment and their social and psychological counseling are of great importance. The choice of the volume and method of surgical intervention requires a difficult and individual assessment of pathological changes developing throughout the course of the disease.Despite certain improvements in treatment methods, lower extremity lymphedema is still an unsolved issue. The experience of most specialists involved in lymphedema treatment demonstrates a reasonable balance between basic conservative and surgical treatment methods. Undoubtedly, results of evaluation of these methods will improve the choice of an optimal technique for treating patients with lymphedema of the extremities.

The milestones of evolution of acute coronary syndrome doctrine were summarized in the literature review. The contribution of national and foreign scientists in understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms of this disease was introduced. The role of emergency medical services, intensive cardiac care units, reperfusion interventions and up to date pharmacotherapy in reducing the mortality rate of acute coronary syndrome patients was highlighted.

The use of combined medicines simultaneously influencing various pathogenetic mechanisms of inflammation and coughing becomes an essential direction of mucoactive therapy in childhood. One of these is thiamphenicol glycinate acetylcysteinate, which has both mucolytic and antibacterial effects, which significantly expands the possibilities of therapy in bacterial etiology of acute and exacerbation of chronic respiratory diseases, increases the effectiveness of therapeutic measures, improves compliance.

One of the most common manifestations of endometriosis is infertility. Currently much attention of researchers is lead to pathogenetic mechanisms of infertility in this disease, but there is not common conception of the causal effect of the failure of reproductive function. There is a literature review of mechanisms of fertility disturbance in genital endometriosis in this article. There are data about hormonal, immunological, genetic factors and data about endometrial alterations during implantation, which can influence on pregnancy onset.

Background: The last twenty years have seen major advancements in unraveling the etiology and the identification of biological markers of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococci (PANDAS). However, this body of evidence has not yet been translated into a clinical setting. Objective: We will review the most important studies to date on PANDAS, emphasizing those whose advances could improve the diagnosis of these disorders. We also suggest the need for updated diagnosis criteria integrating the recent findings from the hereby included studies. Methods: Consulting the PubMed database, a literature review of the last twenty-one years (between 1998 and 2019) was carried out using the terms “PANDAS” and “pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders” in combination with “diagnosis” and “markers”. The search resulted in 175 hits from which we selected clinical cases, original investigations, and clinical reviews. Results: This review offers a compilation of the most important studies performed to date regarding the clinical presentation and potential biological markers of PANDAS. Moreover, we suggest the refinement of some aspects in the current diagnosis criteria, such as focusing on specific symptoms and the inclusion of neuroimaging and peripheral markers. Conclusion: The identification of specific biological markers in PANDAS is crucial for its diagnosis and opportune treatment. Future research will determine whether PANDAS require separated diagnostic and therapeutic measures or if it should be included in recently proposed categories such as Pediatric Acute Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) or Childhood Acute Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (CANS).
