Striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage, 1878) has a high economic value and relatively fast growth, so that optimum stocking density and supplement of natural ingredients, such as Curcuma domestica Val., Kaempferia galanga Linn., and Curcuma xanthorriza Robx. can increase growth and immunity. This study aimed to obtain the optimum stocking density and herbal supplement dosage in feed to increase the growth and survival rates of striped catfish. An experimental method by applying factorial design was used, i.e. the dose and stocking density factors. The dosage of herbal supplements used were 100 mL kg-1 feed (D1), 200 mL kg-1 (D2) and 300 mL kg-1 (D3). Stocking density used was 50 m-3 (P1) and 75 m-3 (P2). The fish used were 8.5±0.5 cm long and weighed 7.5±0.3 g, kept in floating cages of 1 m x 1.5 m x 1 m. Fish maintenance was carried out for 60 days with feeding frequency of three times a day, as much as 10% of body weight. The results showed that the treatment of 200 mL kg-1 dosage and 75 m-3 stocking densities was the best treatment. This treatment showed that specific growth rate, absolute weight, absolute length and feed efficiency were 4.86%, 119.07 g, 15.45 cm, 82.93%, respectively. A supplement dose of 200 mL kg-1 in feed and stocking densities of 75 m-3 could increase growth rates, survival, and feed utilization efficiency of striped catfish.

The dynamics of publication activities devoted to the climbing perch from 1969 to 2018 is analyzed. It is shown that sharp increases in the number of publications at the turn of the millennium coincide with changes in international and national strategies for tropical fish aquaculture, focusing on cultivation of fast-growing native fish species and small farms support. These programs have led to a surge in applied research and publications on the climbing perch, as one of the most promising species. Unfortunately, some of these papers have been published in journals that are unreliable according to the criteria of contemporary science and contain controversial conclusions. Certain consequences of these trends are noted and challenges outlined.

An experiment was carried out to find the salinity tolerance capability and growth performance of Climbing Perch, Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1795). Anabas testudineus commonly cultured fish in Bangladesh was reared in laboratory conditions at different salinities of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21‰ for 60 days. Hundred per cent survivals were detected at 0, 3, 6 and 9‰ salinity while 100% mortality was recorded at 18 and 21‰ salinity. Various responses to threat and feeding were observed among the fish in different treatments. Lowest feed conversion ratio was found in the control group while the highest was detected at 15‰ salinity. On the other hand, decreasing trend of specific growth and average growth rate were observed in A. testudineus fingerlings from 0 to 15‰ salinity. Significantly higher specific growth rate and average growth rate were detected in A. testudineus fingerlings reared at 0 - 6‰ salinity (p < 0.05). The present study suggests that Climbing Perch fingerlings can be reared at fresh water growth rates in coastal water with salinity up to 6‰.Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. Sci. 25(1): 65-73, 2016

The study was performed for evaluating the growth and production performances of crossbred climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) during August to October 2009. The crossbred groups of fish were produced by crossing between native climbing perch and Thai climbing perch (A. testudineus). Growth and production performances was compared at grow out condition between crossbred groups in the two reciprocal crosses of treatments viz. T1: Native climbing perch (?) × Thai climbing perch (?) and T2: Thai climbing perch (?)×Native climbing perch (?. At the same time, they were compared also with their respective control F1 pure line groups i.e. T3: Native climbing perch (?) × Native climbing perch (?) and T4: Thai climbing perch (?) × Thai climbing perch (?). It was evident from the results that among the treatments in grow out system, the highest mean harvesting weight was 69.25±9.01 g found in T4 (Thai climbing perch), which was significantly different (P<0.05) from all other treatments. Whereas, T3 (native climbing perch) also showed the lowest mean harvesting weight 33.38±8.74 g and showed significant differences (P<0.05) among all the treatments. The mean harvesting weight of both the crossbred groups i.e. T1 and T2 were 50.83±6.65 and 59.94±7.83 g, respectively and these results were statistically insignificant (P>0.05) between them but significant among all other treatments. The highest (93.60%) and lowest (83.06%) survival rates were observed in Thai koi (T4) and native Koi (T3) parental stocks, respectively. Wider variations in terms of productions performances were observed among the treatments, where the gross production of T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 2,753±96.67, 3,401±73.26, 1,733±168.47 and 4,051±185 kg/ha, respectively. The productions obtained from crossbred groups were at intermediate compared to their control pure line groups. Higher FCR mean value was observed in native control line (T3), while, lower FCR mean value was observed in Thai control line (T4). DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/ijarit.v2i1.13990 Int. J. Agril. Tropical abalones (Haliotis asinina) is a marine gastropod that has high economic value and consumed by people in the world. In 2002, the production of abalones was 4.076 ton from total production of marine fisheries in the world 8.000 ton. The countries that produce abalone by farming are Taiwan, Cina, South Africa, Japan, Cilie, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Information about the production in Indonesia is scarce. The main issue faced by farmer is higher mortality during post larvae and juvenile. The aim of this research was to observe the influence of abalone seed density in concrete tanks regarding to growth and survival. The research was conducted in January - May 2012 Mataram Marine Bio Industry Technical Implementation Unit, LIPI. Analysis of varians showed that seed densities was not significantly different (P>0.05). The highest survival rate were in density 75 individual/tank with 11.11 % mortality. The highest growth rate were in 50 individual/tank with shell growth rate 0.21cm/14 days and seed weight was 1.23 g.Keywords: growth, survival rate, seed of abalone (Haliotis asinina), density
