This paper discusses a method for evaluating building information models from the point of view of different disciplines. The ultimate goal is to provide a methodology for decision-makers on an Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) project, where they can follow the status and performance of the BIM model at each project milestone, from different aspects, in a comparable manner. This methodology requires an evaluation method that aggregates data input by the designers. Interpreting BIM models is complex – multi-dimensional, in fact, considering the meta-information added to it. Therefore, the aggregation process is not trivial and may differ in several cases. We build up multi-dimensional diagrams to chart the possible factors of the evaluation, besides introducing aggregation rules and visualizations. For such a method, it was essential to analyze BIM ontologies in order to establish a precise definition for each concept: milestones, building parts, indicator metrics, etc. We describe an example project workflow where our method works in theory, while we give a practical solution how to add the evaluation data to the BIM model with CAAD software.

Engineering design is one of the most in-demand Building Information Modelling (BIM) uses. Due to efforts required for modifying and preparing an imported model for analysis, the difficulty-to-benefit ratio is low in this BIM use. These preparations are more geared toward modifying an imported model based on the designer’s interpretation of the building information model and including additional engineering information. Automating the interpretation and model transformation process can significantly facilitate information exchanges. The Interpreted Information Exchange (IIE) concept is developed in this study for such automation during model exchanges. A platform is developed and presented in this paper for implementation of this concept. The platform contains procedures and functionalities required for inputting, processing, and exporting IFC information models through automated interpretation processes that implement IIE concept. The platform is especially formulated to be schema-independent to make it compatible with any standard or custom-defined version of IFC.

The article considers the reasons for foreign tours of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra’s headed by V.B. Dudarova in the 1970s, the specifics of those tours, as well as their results both from the point of view of popularizing symphonic music and from the point of view of popularizing Soviet ideology abroad. Among the most important reasons for the organization of the first foreign tours by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra of V.B. Dudarova in the 1970s, one can mention the active participation of the orchestra in numerous Soviet festivals, competitions for young performers, the preparation and performance of new works by Soviet composers, the expansion of the repertoire of performed musical works, the work with foreign conductors, Also the participation of V.B. Dudarova as a guest conductor in foreign tours with other orchestras, the musical community positive reviews and reports on the work of the orchestra as well as increasing the status and prestige of the orchestra in the general range of symphony orchestras of the USSR. The organization and conduct of foreign tours in the Polish People’s Republic and the GDR included the briefing, the development of a concert program, which provided for concerts in several major cities with a developed musical culture, as well as in the capitals of the countries selected for the foreign tour. In addition to the concerts themselves, the organization of the tour included a meeting of the Orchestra’s direction with the cultural intelligentsia of the People’s Republic of Poland and the GDR after each of the concerts, advertising concerts and the orchestra’s work in the media of the People’s Republic of Poland and the GDR, selling souvenirs and recordings of the orchestra. Thus, the concerts of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra conducted by V.B. Dudarova were only a part, or rather one of the instruments, of the national program of Soviet propaganda and the maintenance of a favorable image of the USSR abroad.

The use of Building information modelling for the design and construction phase of a building has been thoroughly looked into by researchers and practitioners and there is evidence to support that it is beneficial for reducing cost, time and improving communication. Yet the potential use of BIM for the operational and management phase (Facilities management), besides maintenance schedules and equipment information and location, is still not clearly identified. The UK Government, institutional clients and major private owners are now demanding for BIM for new construction and major refurbishment but given that 70-75% of the current UK building stock will still be in use in 2050, a significant part of the existing facilities will not have an information model till the next major refurbishment, creating a major gap in the built environment. This paper presents a new framework aimed at creating information models for facilities management requiring minimal BIM skills and discusses the impact that models created for the operational stage would have on the whole life cycle of a building.

Numerous frameworks and tools have been proposed in the literature to assess the performance of BIM implementation in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). However, there is yet a lack of ex-ante evaluation methods that forecast BIM implementation costs. This study aims to propose an ex-ante evaluation method to forecast the net costs of BIM implementation at different Level of Development (LOD). The proposed method is expected to assist decision makers to find the most cost-saving LOD when investing resources for implementing BIM, from an organisational perspective. The proposed method relies on an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for each type of implementation costs and benefits. The findings suggest that decision makers need to evaluate an organisation’s competency and their implemented BIM applications when choosing the BIM implementation level of BIM. Furthermore, the results show that a higher BIM implementation level does not often secure more benefits. Over 30 features were included in the ANNs with results indicating the possibility of expanding the feature set to obtain more accurate results.

The Singapore Government has embarked on a project to establish a three-dimensional city model and collaborative data platform for Singapore. The research herein contributes to this endeavour by developing a methodology and algorithms to automate the conversion of Building Information Models (BIM), in the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data format, into CityGML building models, capturing both geometric and semantic information as available in the BIM models, and including exterior as well as interior structures. We adopt a Triple Graph Grammar (TGG) to formally relate IFC and CityGML, both semantically and geometrically, and to transform a building information model, expressed as an IFC object graph, into a city model expressed as a CityGML object graph. The work pipeline includes extending the CityGML data model with an Application Domain Extension (ADE), which allows capturing information from IFC that is relevant in the geospatial context but at the same time not supported by CityGML in its standard form. In this paper, we elaborate on the triple graph grammar approach and the motivation and roadmap for the development of the ADE. While a fully complete and lossless conversion may never be achieved, this paper suggests that both a TGG and an ADE are natural choices for supporting the conversion between IFC and CityGML.

BIM can be used to illustrate the entire building lifecycle, from cradle to inception, design and demolition and materials reuse; quantities and properties of materials, which can be easily extracted from the model; and the scope of works, including management of project targets and facilities management throughout the building’s life. The implementation of BIM in projects or organization is in phases and building information models can be developed as 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D and 6D BIM depending on the stage of BIM implementation and level of details required. This study examined the levels of details of building information models being generated by two hundred and eighty two construction professionals in Lagos State, Nigeria using respondents driven sampling technique. Frequency distribution and percentage, clustered bar chart, mean ranking, Kruskal Wallis test and Fisher exact test were used to analyse the data obtained from the respondents. The study found that the implementation of BIM in the study area is for visualization purpose. The findings also revealed that the levels of generating 2D and 3D BIM were very high in the study area; and that 3D architectural model, 3D architectural and structural model, and 3D architectural and building services model were the most developed variants of 3D BIM. It was concluded that that the status of BIM adoption in construction industry in Lagos State, Nigeria is at the visualization phase.Keywords: BIM details, BIM, BIM development, 4D BIM, federated BIM.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Building Information Models (BIMs) are of paramount importance in lifecycle management of buildings as they enable collaboration among various stakeholders at different phases of a construction project, from planning to maintenance and operation. However, there is usually inconsistency between the as-is condition of the building and its existing BIM, because BIMs are generally not updated to reflect changes in the environment. Monitoring the changes during a building’s lifecycle and keeping the BIM up-to-date is useful for a variety of applications. Yet this process often involves manual surveying inspections, which are very time-consuming, error-prone, and laborious. In this paper, we present an automated approach for building change detection through a comparison between the BIM and a point cloud of the building indoor environment. The approach is based on point classification and surface coverage to identify discrepancies between the BIM and the point cloud. Experiments on a synthetic dataset and an ISPRS Benchmark dataset show the potential of the proposed approach not only for change detection and identifying discrepancies, but also for locating the removed and new structures of the building in comparison with the BIM. The results are useful for updating the BIM to represent the as-is condition of the building and for temporal analysis of changes during a building’s lifecycle.</p>

Problem statement. The use of a building information model has a number of advantages over classical methods of architectural and construction design. First of all, VIM allows in a virtual mode to select, develop, calculate, link together and coordinate the components and systems of the future structure created by various specialists and organizations, check their viability, functionality and performance in advance. The aim is to improve the thermal performance of the building and reduce energy consumption. The main task of this work is to carry out insulation of the house on the basis of the provided materials, to carry out an analysis using the cloud-based Insight software, followed by a comparison of the results of energy consumption. Conclusions. The development of information modeling of buildings made it possible to rethink some of the established principles of designing buildings and structures, demonstrated new powerful sources of efficiency in the choice of rational architectural, constructive and technological solutions. The effectiveness of the use of two-frame windows has been proven numerically and empirically, as a result of which the energy consumption of the house has decreased by 9.1%. The use of additional windows makes it possible to obtain an almost thermally homogeneous external insulating shell of the house.

The paper describes the experience of the RIVS Company in using the Building Information Model technologies as the key element, from software selection and training of the company's specialists to practical examples of applying these technologies in pilot projects and information models being developed under existing contracts. The process of interacting with the customer regarding coordination of the design solutions and visual presentation of the facility is also addressed. A performance assessment has been carried out based on the implementation and subsequent use of the BIM technology. Taking into account the research data, global and Russian trends in BIM-design, the RIVS Company continues to use and develop Building Information Model technologies, as well as to set challenging goals - from automation of modelling processes to the creation of a digital twin. This article and the data presented in it can help the companies that are implementing the Building Information Model technologies to making a decision in their favor of one or another software product. A real case illustrated in the article will give an insight into the use of the BIM technologies.
