Externalising, sharing and comparing perceptions in engineering design

There is a need for organisations and the leaders within them to explore, recognise, build and exploit new capabilities. Some of this ‘new’ capability could be better utilisation of the resources already at their disposal. For example, highly skilled designers and engineers. This paper explores the notion of knowledge models in design with two driving motivations. Firstly, a new urgency in the light of the forth industrial revolution, from a digitisation perspective: can we integrate designer’s thoughts with AI. Secondly, a longer-standing concern, from the point of view of the inherent need to communicate and express and model clearly in achieve the objective of design. A conceptual analysis of the role of models in design is presented before a potential new approach is proposed.

The anomalous position of probability and statistics in both mathematics and engineering is discussed, showing that there is little consensus on concepts and methods. For application in engineering design, probability is defined as strictly subjective in nature. It is argued that the use of classical methods of statistics to generate probability density functions by estimating parameters for assumed theoretical distributions should be used with caution, and that the use of confidence limits is not really meaningful in a design context. Preferred methods are described, and a new evolutionary technique for developing probability distributions of new random variables is proposed. Although Bayesian methods are commonly considered to be subjective, it is argued that, in the engineering sense, they are really not. A general formulation of the probabilistic optimization problem is described, including the role of subjective probability density functions.

This essay contributes to developing a new approach to political legitimacy by asking what is involved in judging the legitimacy of a regime from a practical point of view. It is focused on one aspect of this question: the role of identity in such judgment. I examine three ways of understanding the significance of identity for political legitimacy: the foundational, associative, and agonistic picture. Neither view, I claim, persuasively captures the dilemmas of judgment in the face of disagreement and uncertainty about who “I” am and who “we” are. I then propose a composite, pragmatic picture. This view casts the question of political legitimacy as an existential predicament: it is fundamentally a question about who you are—both as a person and as a member of collectives. The pragmatic picture integrates rational, prudential, and ethical qualities of good judgment that were heretofore associated with mutually exclusive ways of theorizing legitimacy. It also implies that the question of legitimacy cannot be resolved philosophically.

The purpose of the article is to put forward and justify the approach according to which, in psychological consultation, especially in the course of studying of protective mechanisms of the person, the application of the characteristics of the psychodiagnostics methods should strictly be taken into account. Our task is to reveal the role of obligatory psychological testing in practical therapy and the exact psychological estimation, particularly highlighting the importance of the harmonious standardized psychodiagnostic tests and projective methods, to try to clarify the comparative boundaries from the point of view of corroboration and efficiency of the methods of being objective-subjective. The model «Big Five» developed by P.Costa and McCray which is objectively revealing the personal traits of people nowadays, is observed as an example. As a result of the conceptual analysis, we came to the conclusion that in order to achieve a positive result, both in the research and applied areas of psychology, it is advisable to harmoniously apply a reliable method of reliable psychological assessment (psychodiagnostics) and target psychological influence is purposeful. Considering that psychology sphere is differentiated with its direct relevance to personal traits and mental processes of a person, a reference is also made to the main characteristics of the specialist, on the basis of which the latter is authorized to process the information of a person's mental world in front of him and give a positive result.

This study examines the emergence of Problem Driven Iterative Adaptation (pdia) and asks whether or not it is a representation of Organization Development (od). It starts by consideringpdiaas a political science phenomenon, and then moves on to consider it from an organizational point of view in light of the disciplinary backgrounds, the preferred strategies of intervention, and the role of change agents of both approaches. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five senior development officials utilizingpdiaat their work to gain a detailed explanation ofpdiain practice. In addition, the author corresponded with the co-originator ofpdia, Matt Andrews, for further analysis. During the course of the study it emerged thatpdiadoes constitute a new approach—in its focus on the gradual discovery of solutions for locally-led problems and broad engagement of multi-agent leadership groups. In addition,pdia’s emphasis on iteration facilitates learning and adjustment. Although these elements have their roots inodand other earlier approaches, the combination is genuinely innovative.

The scientific paper proposes a pragmatic perspective of presenting some theoretical and practical aspects regarding a new approach within the studied organization, a process-based approach. The point of view submitted is a small part of the possibilities to implement the process-based approach. For an overview, I did a presentation of the organization in which I carry out my activity, the Sibiu County Directorate for the Registration of Persons, I showed the place and the role of the organization. Later, I explained the way, was organized and the activities that take place in the organization. An important aspect was the realization, in the organization, of personal analysis to make a new, process-based approach. Based on these processes we have made a current map of processes. A further direction of research is building a new process map following analysis to improve the processes within the studied public organization. Subsequently, we intend to execute the modeling of processes with a method that we will establish later.

Nowadays media has developed broadly and it consists of several television networks, press, radio, etc. On the one side, such media development has positive impact, but on the other side, it has negative impact which affects education and formation of new generations. As a basketballer and trainer of young ages I will focus in the role of media in the education of children from the sports point of view. Technological and economic development after the ‘90s brought with it a new approach: - unequal broadcasting of television programmes for all the sports disciplines, because in our country, for economic interests, only football is covered and such abuse goes to the point of using the term “sports news” and the only news is about football, or even Albanian sports newspaper in which the only information is about football. Wouldn’t it be better to say “Albanian football” instead?! The contrary one finds in the “Albanian sports” which pages cover all sports. Moreover, such phenomenon has negative impact on the education of generations that increasing are dreaming about football, spend money about football, avoid other alternatives thinking that football is the only way to have a luxury living, being rich and famous.

How does professional employment support provided by newcomer support organizations (NSOs) influence highly-skilled refugees’ professional identities and workforce integration? To answer this question, we draw on interviews with 25 managers and staff of NSOs in Canada and 11 recently arrived, highly-skilled refugees. We contribute to the literature on refugee workforce integration by shedding light on the dynamic process of employment support in which NSOs engage in sensegiving practices and influence refugees’ understanding of career options, assessment of opportunities, and their professional identity responses. We found that NSOs attempted to manage refugees’ expectations of career opportunities while fostering hope for the future and that refugees reacted to NSOs’ sensegiving practices by resisting expectation management messages, recrafting a new identity, or bracketing the present as transitory. We highlight the role of external agents in sensemaking and identity work by exploring work role transitions caused by forced migration. Furthermore, we uncover the dynamics of power and contextual constraints that influence sensegiving interactions. From a practical point of view, we argue that in the absence of quality employment opportunities, the reliance on refugees’ resilience and their motivation for long-term professional integration may further marginalize them.

AbstractIn the era of the fourth industrial revolution, human has still a central role. Manufacturing industries have to deal with human sustainability in order to guarantee workers’ health and well-being. Several studies have proved the importance of ergonomics in workplace design and the benefits related to the adoption of the human-centered approach. The enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 are changing the role of the operator and can support him from a physical and cognitive point of view. On the other hand, companies are increasingly implementing lean philosophies, such as World Class Manufacturing, to maintain their competitiveness by reducing wastes and costs. However, the need arises for a comprehensive methodology to support the design of manufacturing equipment considering human factors by integrating Industry 4.0 technologies and World Class Manufacturing elements. It aims at improving both ergonomic and efficiency aspects of the workstation. The proposed methodology allows identifying and in-depth analyzing the problem, thus finding and implementing a solution that complies with all the requirements and constraints defined. Each step of the methodology can be strengthened by Industry 4.0 technologies. The methodology has been experimented in a real case study with a global company of agriculture and industrial vehicles, leading to the design and implementation of a new equipment. Relevant benefits in terms of ergonomics, efficiency, and process standardization have been achieved.

So far, the principal has prepared a strategy to improve the quality of graduates to suit the needs of the businessmarket (Business World (DU)/Industrial World (DI)). Some of the strategies used in aligning education with the demands of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution erainclude improving the quality of sarpras (facilities and infrastructure) in the learning process based on industrial needs (Link and Match) during the IndustrialRevolution 4.0 period, the fulfillment of DU/DI standard facilities and infrastructure and increasing teacher competence is focused on the era of theIndustrial Revolution 4.0. The role of the principal has a point of view broad, open, disciplined, firm, and committed.

The role of Indian textiles in Southeast Asian trade in the seventeenth century was important in three ways. First, there was a great, almost unlimited, demand for these goods in all the Southeast Asian markets; second, they constituted the principal medium of exchange for the trade of Southeast Asia with the outside world; and third, they shaped the pattern of Inter-Asian trade of the European Companies, which laid the foundation of their wealth and commerce and later political power in the eighteenth century. The first two were important for Southeast Asian history only, but the last was of very great importance from the point of view of world history, not less important, in its far-reaching effects, than the voyages of discovery at the beginning of the modern period or the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution in the eighteenth century. The poor Indian weavers shaped the course of world history by unconsciously laying the foundation of British and Dutch colonial empires.
