The present study was designed with a view to study the body weight and hematological parameters; total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume and erythrocyte sedimentation rate of growing broilers fed with standard poultry ration. Broilers were kept under close observation for a period of 14 days and body weight was measured at each 7 days interval up to the end of the 35 days of experimental period. A total of 20 (7 days old) broiler chicks were reared throughout the entire period of study. These chicks were randomly divided into four equal groups (n=5). Group A considered as control, fed only standard ration. Group B, C and D was considered as treated group. Group B with vitamin AD3E 1 ml/5 liter drinking water. Group C treated with mineral 1 ml/5 liter dirking water and Group D treated with vitamin (AD3E) 1 ml/5liter and mineral 1 ml/5 liter dirking water with standard ration. It was observed that body weight of broiler increased significantly (p<0.01) in group D compare to group A, B, & C. Total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin concentration and erythrocyte sedimentation rate values were significant (p<0.01) in the treated groups as compared to that of control group A. So it is concluded that vitamin (AD3E) and mineral supplementation with standard ration is beneficial for broiler production and economically profitable.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. The research was conducted to observe the effect of shoti meal on weight gain and some selected hematological values such as total erythrocyte count (TEC), hemoglobin (Hb) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and biochemical parameters such as aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), uric acid and creatinine in broilers. Fresh rhizomes were washed, minced and dried and pulverized in a flour meal. A total of 20 broilers (16 day old) were randomly divided into four equal groups.  Group A was treated as control and groups B, C and D were fed with 5%, 10% and 15% shoti respectively for 22 days. The result showed that body weight of broilers fed 10% shoti meal (group C) was higher than that of other treated groups. After having completed the feeding trial, birds were sacrificed to collect blood samples for hematological and serum biochemical analysis. Total erythrocyte count (TEC) in group D varied significantly (p<0.05) from all other groups. The highest hemoglobin content was recorded in group B and lowest in group A (Control). Significant (p<0.05) differences were observed among the groups compared to control group. The highest erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was in group B and lowest was in group A (control) and group C (shoti 10%). Serum AST within the treated groups 15% shoti, (Group D) was significantly (p<0.05) higher to that of 5% shoti (Group B), and 10% shoti (group C). The ALT value in group A was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the other groups. Uric acid concentration within the treated groups, group C (10% shoti) showed significantly higher (p< 0.05) than the group B (5% shoti) and group D (15% shoti). Creatinine concentration decreased significantly (P<0.05) in control (group A) to that of others group. Biochemical parameters analyzed in present research is the first report in broilers.

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ivermectin, levamisole HCl and albendazole against gastrointestinal nematodes in naturally infected goats of government goat development farm, Sylhet, Bangladesh. The study included 52 black Bengal breed of which 30 were naturally infected and randomly selected 20 on the basis of their weight and egg count. Twenty black Bengal goats of 12-13 month old irrespective of sex infested with gastrointestinal nematodes were selected for this experiment and randomly divided into four equal groups (group A, B, C and D) where each group consisted of 5 goats and goats of group D were kept as control group. One injectable ivermectin (200?gkg-1 body weight, S/C) preparations (Techno Drugs Ltd. Bangladesh) and two solid levamisole HCl, albendazole (7.5 mgkg-1 body weight, orally) preparations (The ACME Laboratories Ltd. and Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Bangladesh) were used for positive control of gastrointestinal nematodes as group A, B and C. Goats of group D was kept as control without giving any treatment. Before trials (day 0), total egg count, blood samples and initial body weight were recorded. During the study period the fecal and blood samples were collected directly from rectum and examined on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th day using McMaster fecal egg counting method. Body weight was recorded on day 28 following the treatments. The results of the comparative efficacies of different anthelmintic of ivermectin was 86.75%, followed by levamisole HCl 85.07% and albendazole 92.81%. McMaster fecal egg counting method discloses the percentage of Haemonchus spp. (15.38%), with Trichostrongylus spp, Strongyloides spp., and Cooperia spp. also present. After treatment with ivermectin, levamisole HCl and albendazole, Total Erythrocyte Count (TEC), Hemoglobin (Hb) content and Packed Cell Volume (PCV) were increased significantly (p<0.01 and p>0.05) in goats but Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and Total Leukocyte Count (TLC) were decreased significantly (p<0.05 and p>0.01) in all treated goat and body weight was increased significantly (p<0.01) on day 28.International Journal of Natural Sciences (2015), 5(1) 26-34

Background: The extract of Corchorus olitorius has a reasonable content of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and fibre, and therefore enjoys a universal application in the treatment of some disease conditions, even as the whole leaf is a very important component of food in so many cultures. Purpose: The study was designed to investigate the effect of Corchorus olitorius extracts on the testis of adult Wistar rats. Method: A total number of thirty two adult Wistar rats weighing between 180 and 200 grammes separated into four groups labeled A,B,C and D respectively were used for the study. Animals in group A which served as the control group were fed with the normal rat chow and water only. The group B rats were administered 100mg/kg body weight of aqueous extract of Corchorus olitorus; while those in group C were administered 500mg/kg body weight of the extract. The group D rats received 1000mg/kg body weight of the extract. For a period of four weeks, the different experimental animal groups received the respective aforementioned treatments once daily, around nine- o’clock in the morning through oral intubation. At the end of the 28 day treatment, the animals were sacrificed and the testes harvested for histological, investigation, and through cardiac puncture, blood samples for some hormonal studies was also collected and investigated using standard laboratory standards. Results: Observations made showed that the extract produced no histological distortions, degenerative or defective effects on the testicular tissues. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of buccal and parenteral administration of azaperone in order to achieve pig sedation. The type of study was prospective randomized and double blinded. A total of 40 weaned piglets were divided into 4 groups (10 each) and monitored. Group A was injected intramuscularly (i.m.) with azaperone (Stresnil®, 40 mg/ml inj., Elanco Animal Health) at a dose of 2 mg/kg body weight (b.w.). Group B (control) was given 1 ml of saline buccally. Group C received a dose of 2 mg/kg b.w. of azaperone buccally. Group D was given azaperone buccally at a dose of 4 mg/kg b.w. The response to defined stimulus (a blunt blow of a metal rod into the metal edge of the pen), degree of salivation, movement level, blood plasma azaperone concentration, and the haematological and biochemical variables were included in the study. We found that the buccal administration of azaperone is effective, however, a dose of 4 mg/kg b.w. is required to induce a sedation level comparable to the standard 2 mg/kg b.w. i.m. administration.

The effect of arsenic trioxide along with tannic acid, di-sodium hydrogen phosphate (DSHP), alum and effects of sand-charcoal-iron-filter (SCIF)-bed filtrated water along with alum on body weight and some hematological parameters were carried out on a total of 30 (01 month old) adult Newzealand white rabbits. The Rabbits were randomly divided in to 6 equal groups (A,B,C,D,E & F) at the ratio of three males and two females in each group, rats of group A was kept as control without giving any treatment, rabbits of group B received arsenic trioxide@100 ppm, group C received arsenic trioxide @ 100 ppm plus tannic acid @100 ppm, group D received arsenic trioxide @ 100 ppm plus di-sodium hydrogen phosphate @100 ppm, group E received arsenic trioxide @100 ppm plus alum @100 ppm orally daily for 60 days in all cases and group F received alum @100 ppm in SCIF-bed filtrated water orally daily for 60 days. The result showed that body weight gain of control group (A) per week per rabbit was found to increase but in treated group B (arsenic trioxide@100ppm orally daily) the mean body weight of group B were decreased gradually and significant (P<0.05) decrease in body weight was observed at 40 days of feeding and at day 60 it was highly significant (P<0.01). Rabbits of group C, D and E were apparently normal and mild body weight reductions were observed which was statistically insignificant. No body weight loss was observed in rabbit of group F. TEC, Hb and PCV were slightly reduced in group C, D, E and F but highly significant (P< 0.01) reduction of TEC, Hb and PCV were observed in group B. ESR values were slightly increased in group C, D, E and F but highly significant (P< 0.01) increased of ESR value was observed in group B. Leukocytosis was observed in rabbits of group B. In this study, it was concluded that treatment with arsenic oxide at low doses has harmful effects on experimental animals including hematological alterations.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. Objective: This study aimed to compare pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) symptoms in curettage procedure with three antibiotic prophylaxis strategies.Methods: The patients were allocated to three Groups (A, B, and C). Group A was patients receiving prophylactic antibiotics and post-curettage antibiotics, Group B received prophylactic antibiotics without post-curettage antibiotics, and Group C did not receive prophylactic antibiotics but received post-curettage antibiotics. The outcomes measured to identify the occurrence of PID symptoms included leukocytes, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, temperature, pain, vaginal discharge, and bleeding.Results: This study shows that there were no significant differences in any PID symptoms between antibiotic strategies except for pain scale (p=0.03).Conclusion: The PID symptoms between the three strategies of antibiotic prophylaxis were similar.

Effects of Ganoderma lucidum (Gl) and Krestin (PSK) extracts on spleen, thymus and splenocytes in γ-irradiated mice were investigated in this study. ICR strain male mice were divided into five groups. Group A was the normal control. Group B, the experimental control, was treated with Gl. Group C, the radiation treatment control, was treated with whole body exposure to 4 Gy γ-irradiation (RT). Group D was treated with RT and Gl. Group E was treated with RT and PSK. The dosage of Gl was 400 mg/day/kg body weight and PSK was 500 mg/day/kg body weight. Our results indicated that the relative thymus weight in groups D and E were higher than group C on day 28 after γ-irradiation. Group D was the highest in all the experimental groups. CD4 and CD8 splenocytes in group D were higher than group C on days 7 and 28. Gl was better than PSK in repairing the damage of subset T-cells in the spleen of γ-irradiated mice.

Objective Exercise can induce the release of various myokine such as Irisin, which promote browning of white fat, improve body metabolism, and loss weight. Appropriate hypoxic training plays a better role in weight loss than single exercise, but the effect of hypoxic training on muscle factors that promote browning of fat is rarely reported. Therefore, this study aims to observe different concentrations of hypoxia training on the PGC1α-Irisin-UCP1 signaling pathway in nutritional obese rats, and the role of weight loss. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=140) of 6 weeks old were divided into normal diet feeding group (group N, n=20) and high-fat diet feeding group (group HFD, n=120). The HFD rats became obese after 8 weeks’ feeding, and they were further divided randomly into 8 groups. Including sedentary group(group A), training group (group AE), 16.3% hypoxia exposure group (group B), 16.3% hypoxia training group (group BE), and 13.3% hypoxia exposure group (group C), 13.3% hypoxia training group (group CE), 11.3% hypoxia exposure group (group D), 11.3% hypoxia training group (group DE), group B, group C and group D Rats were exposed to oxygen in concentrations of 16.3%, 13.3%, and 11.3% for 12 h/d, respectively. Rats in group BE, CE, and DE were subjected to animal treadmill training during hypoxic exposure with a slope of 0°, 20 m /min, 40min/d, 5d/w. After 8 weeks of intervention, blood, adipose tissue and skeletal muscle were collected and tested. Results (1) In group AE, the body weight of obese rats decreased in a short time, but bounced back later. The body weight of rats in group CE and group DE decreased continuously. Hypoxia exposure and hypoxia training can inhibit the food intake of obese rats in varying degrees, and group CE has the most obvious effect. Hypoxia, endurance training and hypoxia training all reduced the percentage of visceral fat to body weight, group C is significantly lower than group B and D group (p < 0.05), the effect of hypoxia training is more obvious than single hypoxia or exercise, and the lower oxygen concentration the more significant effect. Group C、group CE、group D and group DE significantly decreased the concentration of LDL-C, increased the content of HDL-C in serum than other groups (p < 0.05).(2) The concentration of serum Irisin in group AE, group BE, group CE and group DE rats was significantly higher than that in group A (p < 0.05), and the highest level was found in group CE and DE. The insulin resistance of obese rats in group CE and group DE was significantly better than that in group AE (p < 0.05). (3) Three different concentrations of hypoxia exposure and hypoxia training can significantly increase the skeletal muscle PGC-1 α and FNDC5 gene expression, showing that the lower the concentration of oxygen, the higher the expression, 13.3% and 16.3% hypoxia training can significantly promote the gene transcription of UCP1. The contents of PGC-1 α and FNDC5 protein in skeletal muscle of obese rats in group C, AE and DE were significantly higher than those in group A (p < 0. 05). The expression of UCP1 protein in skeletal muscle of rats in group C, CE and DE was significantly higher than that in group A (p < 0. 05). Conclusions 13.3% and 11.3% oxygen concentration combined with endurance training can effectively reduce the body weight and visceral fat of nutritional obese rats, enhance serum HDL-C and decrease LDL-C levels and insulin resistance. 13.3% and 11.3% oxygen concentration training can significantly improve the level of serum Irisin, 11.3% oxygen concentration training can significantly promote the expression of PGC1α-Irisin-UCP1 gene and protein in skeletal muscle.

Bisphenol-A (BPA) is one of the highest volume chemicals produced world-wide and used in the manufacture of plastics and epoxy resins that are pervasive in our environment and daily lives. The present research was carried out to investigate the effects of two different doses of Bisphenol-A (BPA) on the body weight, hematological parameters and patho-physiological changes of kidney in mice. For this study, fifteen mice, 6 to 8 weeks of age with an average bwt 27.10±0.5 gm, were randomly divided into three groups (n= 5). Group A (control) received only normal mouse pellet while group B and group C received pellet mixed with BPA @ 50 mg and 100 mg / kg bwt daily for 12 weeks, respectively. At the end of the experiment, blood and tissues were collected and processed for hematological and histopathological examination. Results showed that BPA- treated mice caused significant elevation (p<0.01) in weight gain even treated with low dose (50mg) of BPA. The mice exposed to high dose of BPA (100 mg) showed marked reduction (p<0.05) in total erythrocyte count (TEC), significant decreased (p<0.01) in hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and packed cell volume (PCV). Histopathological alterations were detected in the kidneys of BPA-treated mice. In conclusion, this study suggested that BPA exerts deleterious impacts on hematological parameters including association with renal injuries. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. December 2020, 6(4): 635-640
