Three hundred and thirty four medical students were questioned regarding their views on anatomy as an emerging science and further career option. A questionnaire with 16 statements was given to these students and their answers were compiled. The results of this study were encouraging. 99% of students consider anatomy as an essential pillar of medical science. A vast majority (94%) felt that a sound knowledge of anatomy helped them in their clinical term. However, more than 50% termed anatomy was difficult to understand and more than two-third agreed to the question that the duration of teaching anatomy should not be limited to one and a half year. Though 73% placed anatomy apart with clinical subjects. More than 80% compared teaching anatomy as favorable as treating a patient. In Bangladesh, lack of satisfactory job opportunities and adequate research facilities limits the uptake of anatomy as a career option. Even with a modified curriculum two third were willing to become an anatomist. A formal course in teaching was welcomed by most in case they sought to become anatomist. Transmigration of mandibular canine is an unusual phenomenon characterized by movement of the impacted canine crossing the mandibular midline. Mandibular canine are rarely found impacted in a horizontal position in the mandible. Most of the time, this entity occurred as an isolated finding. However there are reports showing association of dentigerous cyst and a hyperdontia. The purpose of this report is to present a case of transmigrated canine associated with agenesis of mandibular both central incisors which is not reported previously. Teaching anatomy to the medical students is shifting from learning the traditional gross anatomy with didactic lectures to learning anatomy by laparoscopic dissection on the cadavers. The open dissection hall teaching is loosing relevance to learning clinical anatomy with laparoscopic dissection live by the medical students. Laparoscopic demonstrations can generate interest in surgery in the students that would otherwise not be possible in the preclinical years. Additional advantages of laparoscopic anatomy learning are improved three-dimensional orientation, increased dexterity and development of team working skills among students. The magnified laparoscopic views and the ability to deeply explore anatomical features to demonstrate the basic anatomy better with full clarity does makes an impression on the young medical students. The major disadvantage is student may feel the lack of pleasure of tactile sensation, of touching the anatomical organs during laparoscopic demonstration.

Background: While medical and polytechnic education systems seem dissimilar in approach, they both share a certain level of difficulty. After graduating, polytechnic students find easy employment in national or multinational companies, whereas medical students are presented with more job opportunities abroad. The purpose of the study was to compare students’ satisfaction with training and career preferences from a technical and a medical perspective. The methods were as follows: the study participants were divided in two samples (polytechnic and medical undergraduates) and asked to fill in a satisfaction questionnaire regarding their professional training. In addition, they were invited to express options about the intended future career. Results: we found no differences between the two samples regarding the participants’ satisfaction with teaching staff and labs. Polytechnic students have more Ph.D. opportunities while medical students were more involved with participation in conferences. Satisfaction with lectures and practical projects was significantly higher among medical students. Conclusions: Both polytechnic and medical students rate their training as satisfying, and half of them consider leaving the country.

Background: Mobile phone addiction is the compulsive use of a mobile phone by youth across the world. A new kind of health disorder in this category among smartphone users is “Whatsapp addiction”. Medical students are also affected by this high smartphone engagement.Methods: It was a cross sectional study, which was conducted among M.B.B.S. students of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Science, Saifai, Etawah, India. All the M.B.S.S. students willing to participate and present at the time of the study included. The data was collected by using pre designed semi-structured questionnaire. Proforma included socio demographic profile, usage pattern and its impact.Results: This study revealed that most of the participants are males (60.75%). Approximately 54% participants felt that their concentration has been reduced due to Whatsapp use, 43.6% participants experienced strain/diminution of vision and 38.4% participants perceived that their physical activity has been reduced due to Whatsapp use.Conclusions: Whatsapp overuse affects the study duration, concentration, physical activity and sleep.

In general, personal identification is an important part of forensic practice. Evidence of prior surgery in a skeletonized remains is a useful findings for personal identification. Here we describe two cases where bone scarring shows evidence of prior surgery, and how these findings become useful information for identification of the victims. About 170 species of Commelina are known from tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Nepal contributes 6 species of Commelina to the world flora. In the present work, taxonomy of all the six species of Commelina reported from Nepal (C. benghalensis, C. caroliniana, C. diffusa, C. maculata, C. paludosa and C. suffruticosa) was studied. Voucher specimens were collected from Central and Eastern Nepal, covering 14 districts. Morphological characters were studied from these collections. Palynological and anatomical characters were also used to see if they are taxonomically important to delimit the taxa within Commelina. Morphological characters seemed promising to delimit the taxa within Commelina. The key identifying characters at species level are modification in root, form of spathe, structure of leaves and seeds, shape of stomata and pollen. Palynological and anatomical characters were also useful, to some extent, in separating some species, but were not significant as compared to morphological data. Some specimens, close to C. benghalensis and C. caroliniana, showed very different characters. Thus further study is needed to confirm their taxonomic status. Medical curricula are continually evolving and increasing clinical relevance. Gross anatomy educators have tested innovations to improve the clinical potency of anatomic dissection and found that clinical correlations are an effective method to accomplish this goal. Recently, surgical educators defined a role for laparoscopy in teaching anatomy. We aimed to expand this role by using surgical educators to create clinical correlates between gross anatomy and clinical surgery. We held supplements to traditional anatomy open dissection for medical students, including viewing prerecorded operative footage and live laparoscopic dissection performed on cadavers. The main outcome measures were assessed through pre- and postsession surveys. Greater than 75 per cent of students found the demonstrations highly valuable, and students perceived a significant increase in their understanding of abdominopelvic anatomy ( P < 0.01). Additionally, 62 per cent of students with previous interest in surgery and 10 per cent of students without previous interest in surgery reported increased interest in pursuing surgical careers. Our demonstrations advance the use of minimally invasive surgical technology to teach gross anatomy. Live laparoscopic demonstrations augment traditional anatomic instruction by reinforcing the clinical relevance of abdominopelvic anatomy. Additionally, laparoscopic demonstrations generate interest in surgery that would otherwise be absent in the preclinical years.
