An experiment was conducted during 1999 and 2000 kharif seasons to know the right time of incorporation of groundnut crop residue and its subsequent effect on the following rice crop. The treatments of the experiment were five incorporation time of groundnut crop residue i.e., 12 days before transplanting (12 DBT), 9 DBT, 6 DBT, 3 DBT and 0 DBT of following T. aus rice along with a control (no incorporation of residue). The results showed that yield contributing characters and yield of T. aus rice varied significantly and increased with the increase of incorporation time. But incorporation at 3 days before transplanting performed worst due to seedling mortality by gas injury. The other incorporation time treatments gave identical grain yield (3.69-3.99 t ha-1 in1999 and 3.90-4.10 t ha-1 in 2000) and straw yield (3.89-4.67 t ha-1 in 1999 and 4.00-4.43 t ha-1 in 2000). The average highest grain yield (4.04 t ha-1) was obtained from the treatment 12 DBT. <p class="sar-body"><span lang="EN-US">Various environmental factors influence yield of sorghum grain, <em>Sorghum bicolor</em> (L) in Sub-Sahara Africa. Various production conditions of rainfall amount, temperature regimes, soil fertility levels and bollworm <em>Helicoverpa armigera</em> density at specific sorghum grain stage were evaluated for effect to sorghum grain yield. High rainfall amount, high temperature and soil fertility levels were positively correlated to sorghum grain yield at three test sites at Ithookwe, Katumani and Kampi of eastern Kenya. The warmest Kampi site achieved the highest seed viability on germination test at 43, 87 and 99% for grain stage of light-green, cream-dough and hard dough, respectively. High <em>H. armigera</em> density was inversely correlated to grain yield. Comparatively, yield loss of &lt; 10% was observed when grain was at early soft dough and &gt; 35% as the grain ripened to early hard dough stage. Thus initial <em>H. armigera</em> damage occurred at late soft dough stage and increased exponentially as the grain ripened to early hard dough stage. The right time to spray against <em>H. armigera</em> was determined as at soft dough stage of sorghum grain to prevent economic damage of the crop. Thus fertility level, rainfall amount and time of bollworm pest attack were deemed worth considerations towards sustainable yield of sorghum. </span></p>

The permanently flooded, and the dry seeded and afterwards permanently flooded treatments produced higher grain yield than intermittent flooding treatments at all nitrogen levels. Rice responded up to 125 kg N/ha irrespective of the water management system. Recovery of applied nitrogen was higher when permanently flooded. The largest proportion of extracted nitrogen occurred in the stems and the lowest in the roots. Flowering was delayed 12 days in the intermittent flooding system at all nitrogen levels as compared to the other two irrigation management systems.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season 2015-16 to study the response of rice varieties to different sowing windows under Konkan conditions. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. The main plot treatments were three sowing windows, viz., 23rd Met Week, 24th Met Week, 25thMet Week. The sub plot treatments comprised five rice varietiesviz., Karjat-5, Palghar-1, Jaya, Swarna and Karjat-2. Thus there were 45 treatment combinations. Results revealed that rice crop sown on 23rd Met. Week recorded significantly higher grain yield (5782 kg ha-1) and straw yield (6462 kg ha-1). Long duration rice variety Swarna recorded the maximum grain yield (5782 kg ha-1) as well as straw yield (6462 kg ha-1), which was significantly higher over all other varieties under study except variety Jaya which was at par. From the present investigation it can be concluded that kharif rice in Konkan be sown during 23rd meteorological week with rice variety Swarna followed by conventional variety Jaya, so as to obtain higher yield and economic returns

The present investigation was executed at Agricultural Research Field, Noakahali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, Bangladesh to access the effects of variety and integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea on efficiency of boro rice yield. The experiment was accomplished during the period from November 2018 to May 2019. It was completed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments assigned in a factorial arrangement of 2 × 4, with 2 varieties of rice (V1-BINA dhan 8, V2- BINA dhan 10) and 4 integration of vermicompost, biochar, and urea (T1: Vermicompost-2.5 t ha-1, T2: Vermicompost-2 t ha-1+ Biochar 0.5 t ha-1, T3: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1+ Biochar 1 t ha-1 and T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-150kg ha-1/0.15 t ha-1). Data were collected to analyze growth and yield contributing characters of boro rice. All the parameters were not statistically significant to differ. According to variety highest grain (3.73 t ha-1) and straw (2.8 t ha-1) yield was found from BINA dhan 10 in comparison with BINA dhan 8. In case of integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea, superior grain and straw yield were obtained from T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-0.15 t ha-1 whereas lowest grain yield (3.01 t ha-1 recorded from integrated application vermicompost and biochar. In combine maximum grain (4.92 t ha-1) and straw (4.40 t ha-1) yield was noted from BINA dhan 10 alone with integrated application of vermicompost and urea whereas the lowest data (grain: 2.50 t ha-1; straw: 1.64 t ha-1) was found from BINA dhan 8 along with vermicompost and biochar.

An experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of BINA Sub-station, Gopalganj to determine the effect of spacing on the yield and yield attributing parameters of rice. Four spacings viz. 15 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 20 cm and 25 cm × 20 cm were included in the study. The experimental design was a randomized completely block with three replications. Spacing’s 15 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 20 cm and 25 cm × 20 cm were adopted 49, 42, 36 and 30 hills per square meter, respectively. Results revealed that different spacing performed significantly differed yield contributing characters (plant height, panicle length, number of effective and non-effective tillers, number of filled and unfilled grain, grain and straw yield of rice. Results indicated that the highest plant height (83.40 cm), panicle length (19.73), number of effective tillers per hill (11.00), number of total grains per panicle (87.73), number of filled grains per panicle (70.53), root length (16.07 cm), root weight (38.00 g per five plants), harvest index (38%), grain yield (4.19 t ha-1) and straw yield (4.50 t ha-1) were found with 25 cm × 20 cm spacing. On the other hand, maximum number of non-effective tillers per hill (1.60) was found in 15 cm × 15 cm spacing. Experiments were conducted in farmers’ fields at Bakergonj, Barisal and Kathaltoli, Potuakhali districts to develop site-specific nutrient management package for high yielding aus rice. The participating farmers delineated soil fertility as the most fertile (grade I), medium fertile (grade II) and the least fertile (grade III) soil. Omissions of N, P, and K were compared with added NPK fertilizers in different fertility grades. At Bakergonj, the NPK treat plots yielded 4.29, 4.36 and 2.09 t ha–1 in soil grade I, II and III, respectively. Omission of N, P and K reduced grain yield by 0.76, 0.95 and 0.29 t ha-1 in grade I, 1.53, 0.87 and 1.25 t ha-1 in grade II and 0.64, 0 and 0.28 t ha-1 in grade III, respectively. At Kathaltoli, the grain yield (6.21 t ha–1) in grade I was higher than grade II (5.58 t ha–1) and grade III (5.11 t ha–1). Omission of N, P and K reduced grain yield by 0.93, 0.18 and 0.09 t ha-1 in grade I, 1.30, 0.37 and 0.93 t ha-1 in grade II and 1.86, 1.30 and 1.30 t ha-1 in grade III, respectively. For Bakergonj, the calculated optimum doses of N were 34, 69 and 29 kg ha–1, P were 4.0, 4.0 and 0.0 kg ha-1 and K were 7.0, 31.0 and 7.0 kg ha–1 for fertility grade I, II and III, respectively. For Kathaltoli, the calculated optimum doses of N were 42, 59 and 84 kg ha–1, P were 1.0, 2.0 and 5.0 kg ha-1 and K were 2.0, 23.0 and 33.0 kg ha–1 for fertility grade I, II and III, respectively. Sustainable cacao cultivation in Ghana has been seriously hampered by high seedling mortality due to the low soil fertility of lands used for the establishment of new cacao farms. Alleviating the low soil fertility to enhance sustainable cacao cultivation requires the use of fertilizers. A study was therefore conducted at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana to determine the effect of integrated application of poultry manure (PM) and sulphate of ammonia (SOA) fertilizers on survival, growth, and nutrient uptake by cacao seedlings under marginal field conditions. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used to evaluate the effects of six treatments. Traits assessed were percentage survival, height, trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA), and nutrient uptake. Results from the study showed no significant differences in soil N and K among the treatments. PM-amended plots had significantly higher soil P than nonamended control and SOA alone. Seedling survival rate ranged from 73.3 to 89.3% with a higher proportion of surviving plants in PM amended soils. The application of PM alone and its combination with SOA improved growth. Cacao trees of T4 (75% recommended dosage of SOA + PM) had the largest TCSA increment, which was significantly different from the other soil treatments. Leaf nutrient concentrations in cacao of T4 were higher than the other soil treatments. It was therefore concluded that T4 could be used during cacao establishment in marginal areas for improved plant survival and growth.

An agronomic investigation was conducted during Kharif season 2019 at the research farm of Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda (U.P) to study the effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on soil fertility and yield of Kharif Greengram (Vigna radiata L.) in Bundelkhand region. An experiment was laid out in randomized block design replicated thrice with 10 treatments comprised with application of organic and inorganic fertilizers and their combinations. Application of Rhizobium culture @ 25 g/kg of seed along with Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1; FYM @5 t ha-1and 100% RDF was found to be responsible for highest availability of nitrogen (233.90 kg ha-1), phosphorous (21.19 kg ha-1) and potassium (239.20 kg ha-1) in soil after harvest of crop. It was also resulted in higher grain yield (11.41 q ha-1), straw yield (27.45 q ha-1) as compared to other combinations and control.

A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from July to December 2011 to evaluate the effect of variety and placement method of urea super granule (USG) on the yield performance of T. aman rice varieties. The experiment consisted of three aman rice varieties viz., Pajam, BR11, BRRI dhan40 and four placement methods viz., broadcasting method of prilled urea (PU), USG placement by hand, by BAU USG applicator and by BARI USG applicator. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The highest value of grain yield (5.13 t/ha), straw yield (5.90 t/ha) and biological yield (11.04 t/ha) were found in BR11. On the other hand, the lowest grain yield (3.54 t/ha) was produced in variety Pajam. The highest grain and straw yields (5.13 and 5.21 t/ha, respectively) were obtained from the hand placement method of USG. Regarding the interaction of variety and USG placement method, BR11with hand placement method appeared as the best method among others. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v12i1.21183 J.
