β-sitosterol (1) and β-sitosterol-D-glucoside (2) were isolated from the dichloromethane soluble fraction of a methanol extract of the leave of Persicaria perfoliata. The crude fraction was subjected to antimicrobial screening and brine shrimp lethality bioassay, where moderate antimicrobial activity was observed against most of the test organisms was seen. The hexane soluble fraction also displayed significant cytotoxic activity with LC50 0.64 μg/ml in brine shrimp lethality bioassay. Quercetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside was isolated from the ethylacetate soluble fraction of the ethanol extract of the fresh leaves of Azadirachta indica (Family: Meliaceae). The crude extract of hexane, ethylacetate and butanol soluble fractions of this ethanol extract were subjected to antimicrobial screening and brine shrimp lethality bioassay. The antioxidant, antibacterial and cytotoxic properties of methanol extract of Urtica crenulata (syn: Laportea crenulata Gaud) stem has been investigated in the present study. The antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of the Urtica crenulata methanol extract were assessed by DPPH free radical scavenging method and brine shrimp lethality bioassay method, respectively. The antibacterial activity of the plant extract (500 μg/disc) was also carried out by disc diffusion technique. Stem extract showed DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging effect compared with ascorbic acid. IC50 value of ascorbic acid and stem extract was found 14.72 μg/ml and 1468.9 μg/ml, respectively. In antibacterial experiment, Urtica crenulata stem extract showed 8, 14 and 10 mm of diameter of zone inhibition against Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexneri and Shigella sonnei, respectively and 9 and 8 mm of diameter of zone inhibition against Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus but no activity was observed against Staphylococcus aureus. In brine shrimp lethality assay, the LC50 value of the extract was found 104.0 μg/ml, which indicates that the extract has high cytoxic effect. The present study demonstrates that methanol extract of Urtica crenulata stem has significant cytotoxic effect. Bangladesh is a good repository of natural products. Numerous plants are available to facilitate the traditional treatments. Proper scientific evaluations are essential to explore the plant derived drugs. With this view, the crude methanol extract of leaves of Aganosma dichotoma (Roth) K. Schum. and its Kupchan fractions were screened for free radical scavenging, brine shrimp lethality, antimicrobial and thrombolytic activities. Among all extractives, the chloroform soluble fraction demonstrated the highest free radical scavenging activity with IC50 value 18.21 ?g/ml. Moreover, the chloroform soluble fraction showed significant brine shrimp lethality having LC50 value of 3.98 ?g/ml. On the other hand, the petroleum ether, carbon tetrachloride and chloroform soluble materials revealed mild to moderate antimicrobial activity with the zone of inhibition ranging from 7 to 14 mm. In the thrombolytic assay, the carbon tetrachloride soluble partitionate showed the highest clot lysis (30.48%). This is the first report of the comprehensive investigations of different extractives of A. dichotoma for the abovementioned bioassays. Scopoletin (1) was isolated from the chloroform soluble fraction of a methanol extract of the stem bark of Phyllanthus reticulates (Family: Euphorbiaceae). The petroleum ether, carbon tetrachloride and choloroform soluble fractions of this methanol extract were subjected to antimicrobial screening and brine shrimp lethality bioassay. All of the partitionates showed moderate to strong inhibitory activity to microbial growth while the chloroform soluble fraction showed strongest cytotoxicity having LC50 1.99 ?g/ml. Lupeol (1), epilupeol (2) and β-sitosterol (3) were isolated from the n-hexane and the carbontetrachloride soluble fraction of a methanol extract of the leaves of Phoenix paludosa Roxb. The n-hexane, carbontetrachloride and chloroform soluble materials from the concentrated methanol extract were subjected toantimicrobial screening and brine shrimp lethality bioassay. All of the partitionates showed insensitivity to microbialgrowth, while the n-hexane, chloroform and methanol soluble fractions showed significant cytotoxicity having LC502.17 μg/ml, 2.77 μg/ml and 2.46 μg/ml, respectively. The methanol extract of the stem bark of Anthocephalus chinensis as well as its n-hexane, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and aqueous soluble fractions were subjected to brine shrimp lethality bioassay and microbiological investigation. In the brine shrimp lethality bioassay, the aqueous soluble partitionate of the methanolic extract revealed the highest cytotoxicity having LC50 of 1.19 mg/ml while in case of antimicrobial screening, the chloroform soluble materials demonstrated moderate inhibition of growth of test organisms. The purpose of the present study is to examine the antibacterial and cytotoxic properties of methanol extract of leaves of Stephania japonica. The crude methanolic extract of S. japonica, n-hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of methanolic extract were screened for their antimicrobial activity against a wide range of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by disc diffusion method. The crude extract showed moderate and n-Hexane, chloroform soluble fraction of crude extract showed mild antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Ethyl acetate soluble fraction of the extract showed significant antimicrobial activity against Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus. The zones of inhibition produced by the crude methanolic extract, n-hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble fractions were found to be 12.80-16.55 mm, 12.60 mm, 5-14.30 mm and 10-20.25 mm, respectively, at a concentration of 30 g/disc. Chloroform, n-hexane and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of methanolic extract of S. japonica were screened for antitumor properties using brine shrimp lethality bioassay. A reputed cytotoxic agent vincristine sulphate was used as a positive control. From the results of the brine shrimp lethality bioassay, it can be well predicted that chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of methanolic extract of S. japonica possess cytotoxic principles (with LC50 66.488 mg/ml and LC50 45.662 mg/ml, respectively) comparison with positive control vincristine sulphate (with LC50 0.839 mg/ml). But n-hexane soluble fractions of methanolic extract of S. japonica exhibited no lethality effect on shrimp nauplii. Coriander is a common herb can be used as traditional medicine. One of the expected benefits of Coriander fruits is an anti-cancer. This study aims to determine the cytotoxic activity of Coriander extract (Coriandrum sativum Linn) on shrimp larvae (Artemia salina Leach) with the BSLT (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test) method. Coriander fruits was extracted using methanol solvent and maceration method, then concentrated it with a rotary evaporator until a thick extract. Cytotoxic activity test used methanol extract with several concentration : 1,000 ppm, 100 ppm, 10 ppm, and 1 ppm. The result of this research reveal that methanol extract of Coriander fruits has cytotoxic activity with LC50 value is 32.35 ppm.

Two compounds namely lupeol (1) and epilupeol (2) were isolated from n-hexane soluble fraction of crude methanol extract of the powdered whole plant of Samanea saman Merr. for the first time. The structures of the isolated compounds were established by extensive analyses of their high resolution NMR spectral data as well as co- TLC with authentic samples. In our preliminary screening, the n-hexane, carbon tetrachloride, and dichloromethane soluble fractions of the crude methanolic extract of S. saman were subjected to antimicrobial activity and brine shrimp lethality bioassay. The carbon tetrachloride soluble partitionate of the methanol extract exhibited mild to moderate antimicrobial activity and strong cytotoxicity having LC50 of 0.831μg/ml.
