Stocking density is considered one of the important factors affecting fish growth. The study was aimed to compare the growth parameters of Vietnamese Koi (Anabas testudineus ) at various stocking densities. The experiment was carried out during the period from 01 September to 30 November 2014. Three stocking densities were used as 150, 250 and 350 fries/dec and designated as treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively each having two replicates. The average size of each pond was 33 decimal with an average depth of 5 feet. Quality fish feed was used three times daily throughout the culture period. From this experiment, it was found that the highest net profit was BDT 32,690 in T1 followed by BDT 36,104 in T2 and BDT 38,450 in T3. That time the market price was BDT 130/kg fish. Culture of Vietnamese koi at stocking density (150 fish/dec) showed higher benefit in short period of time. The benefit cost ratio was 1.7, 1.63 and 1.56 in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. From the present experiment, it was found that the total production was increased with the increase of stocking density. But the individual fish growth rate was decreased with the increase of stocking density.Res. Agric., Livest. Fish.2(2): 335-341, August 2015

Stocking density is considered one of the important factors affecting fish growth. The study was aimed to compare the growth parameters of monosex tilapia at various stocking densities. The experiment was carried out during the period from 06 August to 22 December 2014. Three stocking densities were used as 125, 250 and 375 fish/dec and designated as treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively each having two replicates. All the fishes were of same age group having average initial body weight of 1.34g. A commercial feed was supplied at the rate of 40% of the body weight and then gradually it was readjusted to 20%, 10%, 5% and 3% respectively and continued up to the end of the experiment. The water quality parameters were monitored at 14 days interval and the ranges were: temperature 19.34 to 31.40°C, pH 6.83 to 8.03, dissolved oxygen 4.78 to 6.82 mg/l and transparency 29.02 to 49.45cm.The result of the present study showed that the mean weight gain was significantly (P<0.01) highest in T1(120.58g) followed by T2(89.74g) and T3(74.58g).The average specific growth rates (SGR) was 2.590, 2.560 and 2.598 (%/day) in treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively. There was significant (P<0.01) differences among the survival rate. The survival rate 87% was significantly highest in T1followed by 76% in T2 and 69% in T3.The fish productions were 13.25, 17.30 and 19.64 kg/decimal in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Although the highest production was obtained in T3 but individually growth performance of monosex tilapia was highest in T1. The highest net profit was found (BDT 3,373.30) inT1compared toT2 (BDT 3,017) and T3 (BDT 2,918). The highest benefit cost ratio (BCR) was 1.79 in T1followed by 1.44 in T2and 1.28 in T3. Based on the result of present experiment, fish farmers might be suggested to rear tilapia at lower stocking density to get higher growth, survival and benefit in a short period of time.Asian J. Med. Potentials and prospects of pond fish farming in improving aquaculture system in Kaliakair upazila under Gazipur district, Bangladesh were investigated. Data were collected from 60 selected fish farmers through questionnaire survey and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) during June to November, 2014. The research revealed that a highest number of pond fish farmers (61.67%) were out of training facilities and a good portion (23.33%) had no education. Pond water was found turbid seasonally (71.66%) and farmers did not exchange water during culture periods (66.67%). As a result water quality deteriorates day by day and depletion of oxygen occurs during pond farming. The average stocking density of fish was higher in the study area and the highest was found in monoculture of Climbing perch (Anabas testudineus ) (1200 individual/decimal) and lowest in carp polyculture system (195 individual/decimal). Fish production was higher in Pangus monoculture system (17.89 MT/ha/yr) and lower in Climbing perch monoculture system (10.78 MT/ha/yr), but profit was higher in Climbing perch monoculture produced 1318100 Tk./ha/yr and lower in Tilapia monoculture 397886 Tk./ha/yr. Benefit Cost Ratio was higher in Climbing perch (2.32) and lower in Pangus culture (1.34). The problems faced by the fish farmers were broadly categorized as financial, natural, technical and social. Therefore, necessary training facilities with institutional and organizational supports, credit facilities, extension services and awareness development are essential to improve aquaculture system as well as the fishers’ livelihoods in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur district.Res. Climbing perch is one of economically-valued local fish in Indonesia, particularly in Borneo, Sumatra, and Java Islands. The fish has the potential to be developed as freshwater aquaculture species. The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the production performance and blood profile of climbing perch cultured in peat pond with different stocking densities. The research was conducted in Kereng Bangkiray Village, Sebangau District, Palangkaraya City, Central of Borneo. Nine fish ponds sized 5.0 m x 5.0 m x 1.5 m were used. Nets with a mesh size of 1 cm measuring 2.0 m x 1.5 m x 1.0 m was installed in each fish pond for the experiment. The treatment consisted of different stocking densities, namely 15 fish/m2, 30 fish/m2, and 45 fish/m2. Fish with the body weight of 20 ± 1.25 g were used. Fish were cultured for four months. An artificial diet containing 30% protein was given with a feeding rate of 5%. The experiment was designed in a complete randomized design. The result showed that the production performances (i.e. survival, specific growth rate, absolute weight, and biomass) were significantly higher at the densities of 15 and 30 fish/m2 than that of 45 fish/m2 (P<0.05). Blood profile such as glucose, erythrocyte, leucocyte, and hemoglobin were higher at the density of 45 fish/m2 except for hematocrit which was higher at the densities of 30 and 15 fish/m2. Water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia at the densities of 15 and 30 fish/m2 showed better values than that of 45 fish/m2 stocking density. To optimize the productivity and maintain the optimum water quality condition, the optimal stocking density for climbing perch culture is suggested at 30 fish/m2.

Aquaponics provides an alternative opportunity for the combined production of fish and plants. Most of the essential nutrients required for optimal plant growth can be supplied from the fish feed, except for K and Fe. These nutrients are usually inadequate in fish feed. In this study, red tilapia and rocket plants were co-cultivated in an aquaponics system along with the extra addition of K and Fe. Fish growth, morpho-anatomical characteristics, and K and Fe loading on fish gills were studied. Plant growth parameters were also determined. The addition of Fe and K slightly improved the produced fresh biomass of rocket per unit area and had no impact on tilapia growth and survival. No severe histological alterations in fish gills, liver, and midgut were detected. EDX analysis showed that the addition of K led to the enrichment of this specific ion in fish gills, but no effects of this accumulation were found on other aspects of fish growth and survival.

The study was carried out infourselected farmer’s pond in Netrokona sadarand Barhatta upazillas(sub district) under Netrokona district during April to September 2019 having average pond area of 0.14 haeach. The ponds were prepared by removing aquatic vegetation and unwanted fish and other animals, andapplying with lime at the rate of 250 kg/ha. Five days after liming, water was supplied from shallow tubewell to the ponds and filled up to the depth of 1.5 m. The fry of Pabda (Ompok pabda) and Gulsha (Mystuscavasius) with Rohu (Labeo rohita) were stocked at the rate of 175000; 87,500 and 2000/ha, respectively.After stocking, fish were fed at a rate of 5-12% of body weight with supplementary feed (30% crudeprotein). Fish sampling were done at monthly interval to know the fish growth status and also to adjust feedration. After six months rearing, fish were harvested by repeated seine netting. Total bulk weight and numberof fish from each pond was recorded. Survival and gross production of fish of each pond were estimated. Theharvesting weight of pabda ranged from 33 to 36g. While the harvesting weight of Gulsha and Rohu rangedfrom 26-27g and 591-614g, respectively. Based on the number of fish harvested at the end of the experiment,survival ranged from 75 to 88%.Total production of Pabda (O. pabda) and Gulsha (M. cavasius) with Rohuwas estimated at 5202, 1772 and 1066 kg/ha, respectively. The total production of fish as recorded in trialponds were 8043 kg/ha

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the production performance of freshwater mud eel (Monopterus cuchia) with supplementary feed for a period of 5 months in field level. Two ponds were selected for this experiment in Maulovibazar district. Baby cuchia having weight of 50-70 g were stocked in ponds at a stocking density of 10/m2 in filter net. Liming (CaO) was done in all the ponds at rate of 250 kg/ha. A safety shelter for cuchia was developed by installing bamboo root, plastic and bamboo-made hollow pipe, aquatic vegetation and necessary objects in the pond. Different physico-chemical parameters were found to be within the acceptable ranges for M. cuchia culture in all ponds. Supplementary feed composed of fish paste (50%), fish meal (40%), rice bran (5%) and wheat flour (5%) was applied at the rate of 2-3% of body weight. After 5 months of rearing, total production obtained were 28.3±1.09 and 31.9±2.56 kg from pond-1 and pond-2, respectively. The highest production was obtained from pond-2 and lowest production was obtained in pond-1. The net profit gained from pond-1 and pond-2 were tk 2559 and 3211 per decimal, respectively.

Increased temperature, decreased water level and reduced culture period of the ponds are considered as major problems for aquaculture promotion in drought prone Barind area of Bangladesh. In order to address these problems, an experiment was conducted to optimize the stocking weight for carp polyculture ponds in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh. Three different stocking weights were tested under three treatments (T1: 25±0.12g; T2: 50± 0.15g; and T3: 100±0.19g), each with three replications. Fish growing period (July-December), carp species (C. catla, H. molitrix, A. nobilis, L. rohita and C. mrigala), stocking density (7,410 fishes/ha), lime and ash treatment, fertilization and feeding were same for all the treatments. Water quality (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, transparency, pH and alkalinity) and fish growth parameters were monitored monthly. Mean values of water quality parameters were found within the suitable range for fish culture. Treatment T3 varied more significantly (P<0.05) than that of other treatments for the mean values of final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, survival rate and yield of fish. Net benefit of carp polyculture was also found significantly (P<0.05) highest with treatment T3.

Fisheries sector has high potential for the economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh earns a considerable amount of foreign currencies by exporting fish, shrimps and other fisheries products. This study addresses profitability of tilapia production using benefit cost ratio. The study also examines input demand and output supply of tilapia farming in Bangladesh by applying a profit function approach. Results revealed that benefit cost ratio is greater than 1, means that tilapia production is profitable in the study area. Tilapia farmers are also responsive to changes in market prices of inputs and outputs. Tilapia price is the most dominant determinant of output supply and input demand. A 1% increase in tilapia price will increase output supply by 3.836% and increase demand for lime, fingerlings, feed and labour by 0.941%, 0.987%, 0.523% and 1.00%, respectively. Problem facing index analysis shows major problems faced by the farmers were low market price of tilapia, high prices of fish feed with adulteration and inadequate supply of good quality fry. The present study was conducted in the southwest part of Bangladesh from 2008 to 2009 in order to assess of mud crab fattening practice and its production performance between two different seasons. Generally two crab fattening seasons are observed in Bangladesh, one is the dry or peak season (October to May) and another one is lean season or wet season (June to September). Significant variation in stocking density was observed between two seasons during the study period. Comparatively higher stocking density and higher production was found in dry season in comparison to wet season. The reasons behind higher production and production rate were; the availability of the crabs and high market price for the crabs during dry season. On the other hand, rain fall, occurrence of diseases and natural disaster might be the cause of lower production of crab during wet season. Crab farming and fishery could play a sustainable alternative employment opportunity for the development of coastal people. Abstract. Pertiwi MP, Saputri DD. 2020. Golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) as an alternative protein source in Pasupati catfish (Pangasius sp.) fish feed. Nusantara Bioscience 12: 162-167. Research on efforts to conserve golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) meat has been done. This research aimed to utilize the snail meat as an alternative feed for the Pasupati catfish (Pangasius sp.). The research was carried out from May to August 2020. It began by collecting Pomacea canaliculata by hand sorting then processed into artificial feed/pellets. The research was CRD designed with 5 treatments and 3 replications. Pasupati catfish juvenil measuring 7.4 ± 0.8 cm and weighing 11.7 ± 0.5 g, was maintained for 21 days with a stocking density of 15 individuals/aquarium. Feeding as much as 8% of the biomass with a frequency of feeding 3 times a day at satiation. Variables measured were SGR, L, RP, FCR, and SR. The results showed that feed B produced the best fish growth and could be an alternative fish feed without having a negative effect on growth and feed utilization. Feed B (90% fish meal + 10% Pomacea canaliculata meat meal) had the highest SGR value and was supported by a high PR value and a low FCR value. In addition, there is a difference among variables, despite least significant. ANOVA test also supports the differences between treatments, but HSD test (p<0,05) is not significantly different. This means that the addition of the percentage of P. canaliculata meat meal to the feed does not provide a good performance of the Pasupati catfish. Value of abiotic parameters was ​​to support fish farming.
