Character association and path analysis in twenty genotypically diverse indigenous genotypes of garlic (Allium sativum L.) were studied at the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar during the years 2010 and 2011 for nine important characters. Total bulb yield showed positive and significant genotypic and phenotypic associations with plant height, number of leaves per plant, pseudo-stem length, bulb weight and number of cloves per bulb, indicating that selection based on these traits will help increasing the yield of garlic. Path coefficient analysis provides an effective means of a critical examination of specific force action to produce a given correlation and measure the relative importance of each factor. In this analysis bulb yield was taken as dependant variable and rest characters were considered as independent variable. Bulb weight showed high positive and direct effect and significant positive correlation with total bulb yield. Therefore, bulb with higher weight should be considered in selection criteria for increasing the total bulb yield and emphasis should be given for selecting the genotypes with higher bulb weight. Overall path analysis indicated that direct effect of bulb weight and equatorial bulb diameter and indirect effect of plant height, number of leaves per plant, pseudo stem length, polar bulb diameter, equatorial bulb diameter, number of cloves per bulb and average weight of 50 cloves should be considered simultaneously for amenability of total bulb yield. Correlation and path analysis were carried out in 12 varieties of gladiolus for different yield attributing traits at the Horticultural Research Station, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Yercaud. The results indicated that the Rachis length was positive and significantly correlated with mother corm weight (g), plant height at 60th days after planting (DAP) (cm), number of leaves per plant at 60th (DAP), length of spike (cm), weight of daughter corm (g) and vase life (days). But, it is negative and significantly correlated with number of days taken for first floret opening (rg: -0.714 & rp: -0.664), number of daughter corms per plant (rg: -0.826 & rp: -0.724) and marketable spikes per plant (rg: -0.561 & rp: -0.418) at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. For path analysis the residual effect was 0.174 and it was evident that the highest direct effect on length of rachis was observed in case of mother corm size (0.951) and weight of the daughter corm (0.943), followed by number of daughter corms per plant (0.859), number of florets per spike (0.849), length of first floret (0.832), marketable spikes per plant (0.385), number of leaves per plant at 60th DAP (0.384), diameter of first floret (0.374) and length of spike (0.221) under Shevaroys conditions

The experiment was carried out to determine the character association and path analysis with 20 genotype including national check namely GT-10, TKG-22, zonal check JTS-8. The genotype was grown in (RBD) design with 3 Replication during Kharif 2020 at BTC College of Agriculture and Research station Bilaspur CG. The data were collected for nine quantitative and yield attributing traits. The correlation co-efficient analysis is the index of relationship among two variables. These have been dealing in all possible combinations for important traits at genotypic and phenotypic levels. Seed yield plant-1 was highly significant and positively correlated with plant height, followed by number of primary branches plant-1, capsules length, number of capsules plant-1, number of seed capsule-1 days to maturity at genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path analysis at phenotypic level among the characters studied, plant height (cm) had the highest direct effect (0.7479) towards seed yield per plant followed by number of primary branches plant-1 (0.5868) capsule length (0.3827) no of capsule plant-1 (0.3521) number of seed capsule-1 (0.2818) days to maturity (0.289) negative direct effect were recorded for days to 50% flowering (-0.0327) 1000 seed weight (- 02147). Demonstrating the fact that there was a real and positive connection between these characters will help determine which type of character is needed for crop improvement.

Abstract The genotypic and phenotypic correlation and path analysis of plant biomass, plant height, stem diameter and other biomass component traits were analyzed in thirty provenances of Bombax ceiba. In general, the magnitude of genotypic correlations was higher than phenotypic correlations. Stem diameter and plant biomass showed highly significant genotypic correlations with all the traits except the number of secondary branches and plant biomass with leaf biomass. Plant height had the highest positive direct effect on plant biomass followed by the number of primary branches/plant and the number of leaves/plant. On the basis of this study, a higher plant biomass would be achieved through direct selection based on plant height, the number of primary branches and the number of leaves/plant. Therefore, the study is important in selection of traits of economic importance based on other characters, whose direct effect is not visible.

ABSTRACT Correlations and path analysis between characteristics can aid the selection of important attributes in breeding programs. Thus, the objective of this work was to perform genotypic, phenotypic correlations and path analysis under commercial yield of garlic bulbs, depending on morphological and agronomic variables. The experiment was carried out in 2017 at the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri and Universidade Federal de Lavras, using ten garlic genotypes, eight trials and two commercial cultivars, Caçador and Jonas. We evaluated: plant height; number of leaves, total bulb number; total bulb mass, total bulb yield, marketable bulb yield and number of cloves per bulb. The genotypic and phenotypic correlations were positive and significant between marketable yield of bulbs with bulb mass, total yield and number of cloves per bulb, indicating that selection based on these characteristics will help increase the yield of garlic. However, only the number of cloves per bulb had a direct effect and a relevant indirect effect on the marketable yield of garlic.

An experiment was conducted with a local cultivar of garlic to study the effects of planting date and gibberellic acid on the growth and yield of garlic at the field laboratory of the Department of Crop Botany, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during November 2001 to April 2002. Early planting influenced the plant height, leaf number, bulb diameter and total dry matter. With the delay in planting time starting from November 7, the yield was chronologically reduced in later plantings. Significantly the highest bulb yield (2.67 t/ha) was recorded when planting was done on November 7 and lowest yield (0.92 t/ha) was obtained from December 22 planted crop. Bulb yield was higher in control plants than those of GA3 treated plants. The interaction effects of planting date and different concentrations of GA3 differed significantly in respect of plant height, number of leaves, bulb diameter and dry weight of roots, leaves and bulbs and yield of garlic.

The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during March to June, 2014 to study the genetic variability, correlation and path co-efficient analysis for yield and yield contributing characters of maize. In this experiment 25 maize genotypes were used as experimental materials. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Mean performance, variability, correlation matrix and path analysis on different yield contributing characters and yield of maize genotypes were estimated. The highest grain yield/plant (272.21 g) was recorded in the genotype of BARI Hybrid Maize-6, whereas the lowest grain yield/plant (180.40 g) from the genotype of NZ-003. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation for all the yield contributing traits. In correlation study, significant positive association was recorded for grain yield/plant of maize genotypes with plant height (0.235), tassel height (0.359), number of grains/cob (0.854), cob length (0.390), cob diameter (0.313) and weight of 1000-grains (0.689). Path analysis revealed that days to initiation of male flower had positive direct effect (0.132), days to initiation of female flower had negative direct effect (-0.254), days to maturity had positive direct effect (0.178), plant height had positive direct effect (0.314), tassel height had positive direct effect (0.234), ear length had positive direct effect (0.197), number of grains/cob had negative direct effect (-0.095), cob length had positive direct effect (0.167), cob diameter had positive direct effect (0.168) and that weight of 1000-grains had positive direct effect (0.217) on yield / plant.

Character association and path analysis were performed for black seed cultivars using a split-plots design based on RCBD with three replications. Three cultivars (‘Varzaneh’, ‘Semirom’ and ‘Mobarakeh’) were studied under three levels of irrigation (normal irrigation, irrigation with drought stress before and after flowering). Under normal and abnormal irrigations the relation of seed yield and three characters biological yield, number of capsule per plant and thousand seed weight were high, positive significantly (p≤0.01); the relation between yield and number of sub branch was positive significantly (p≤0.05). In terms of abnormal irrigation there was a positive significant correlation between essence percent and yield (p≤0.05). Under normal irrigation the most direct effect of traits on yield was obtained from biological yield (0.778) followed the number of capsules per plant (0.245). The most indirect effect of traits on yield was obtained from biological yield through thousand seed weight (0.576) followed stem diameter through biological yield (0.468). Under water deficiency conditions the most direct effect of traits on yield was obtained from biological yield (0.811) followed the number of capsules per plant (0.231). The most indirect effect of traits on yield was obtained from biological yield through thousand seed weight (0.562).

A study was carried out to determine the association between different quantitative characters of eighteen genotypes of tuberose cultivars single. The highest positive and significant association was recorded for spike yield with plant height (0.33), rachis length (0.30), number of florets per spike (0.34), weight of single floret (0.63), matured bud weight (0.66), duration of flowering (0.52). The results of path coefficient analysis indicated that the weight of the floret (1.48) had very high positive direct effect on spike yield per plant followed by length of the floret (0.84) number of florets per spike (0.45) and duration of flowering (0.41). Spike length (0.27) had moderate positive direct effect. Plant height (0.16) and number of leaves (0.17) showed low positive direct effect and rest of the characters had negligible positive direct effect on spike yield per plant. The results of the study indicates that the above mentioned characters can be used for the improvement of tuberose.

The study aimed to obtain the type of mulch and the doses of liquid organic fertilizer proper waste coconut husks in modifying microclimate around crops to obtain the maximum yield of shallot in the dryland. The research was used a factorial randomized complete block design consisting of two factors. The first factor consisting mulches, M1 = silver-black plastic mulch and M2 = straw mulch. The dose of liquid organic fertilizer from coconut husks was the second factor. It is consisting of S0 = without fertilizer, S1 = 500 L ha-1, S2 = 750 L ha-1 and S3 = 1000 L ha-1. The results showed that the application of a combination of mulch and liquid organic fertilizer coconut husk waste significantly affected plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of tillers, and the bulb yield. Straw mulch with coconut husks waste dose of 1000 L ha-1 resulted in plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of tillers and highest bulb yield compared with other treatments. The highest bulb yield was obtained with 9.63 t ha-1.

Arachis pintoy can be reproduced in generative but also vegetative way, for example through cuttage. Problems arising from this reproduction method is the difficulty to form roots. The success rate of this method depends significantly on the size of the formed callus. To analyze the content of nutrients contained in the cuttage stem, we have to cut off the stem. And then it’s necessary to find out additional factors that can influence the forming of the callus with a large percentage of rooting. One alternative solution is the provision of coconut water which believed to contain a variety of nutrients and growth substances. Therefore, we conducted a study to find out the interaction of these two factors on the growth of Arachis pintoy The purpose and goal of this research is to study and identify the growth Arachis pintoy which treated with coconut water its influences on the stem length. This research has been performed in Agrostology Lab of Animal Husbandrys Faculty of Sam Ratulangi University, during a period of 60 days. The research materials consists of Arachis pintoy, Coconut Water and soil. While the research method use 2 experimental factors: Factor A is the Coconut water, Factor B is the after-cuttage-stem length of Arachis pintoy, which arranged through completely randomized design (CRD). Each factor consists of 3 treatments, which repeated 3 times. These factors are as follows: A = volume of Coconut water, A1 = 100 ml of coconut water, A2 = 200 ml of coconut water, and A3 = 300 ml of coconut water. Factor B = stem length of Arachis pintoy, B1 = 10 cm, B2 = 15 cm, and B3 = 20 cm. And the variables which measured in this study were plant height, dry weight of roots and the roots volume. The results showed that administration of coconut water and the length of the cuttings as well as the interaction of two factors give significant effect (P < 0.05) to the growth of the number of leaves and root dry weight of the Arachis pintoy . Furthermore, coconut water does not give effect to the root volume and a combination of two factors do not impact on the growth of plant height. From the data analysis and discussion for all variables in this study , we can conclude that the best combination of growth in the number of leaves , dry weight of roots and root volume is the provision of 300 ml of coconut water and 10 cm stem length.
