Natural disasters often lead to social change, and the changes of structural society often lead to post-disaster conflicts in the community. When a natural disaster occurs, the mass media became one of the main elements that preach it to the outside world through a text message. While the news is the result of social construction that always involving views, ideologies and values. Construction performed by mass media does not take place in an empty space, but it is loaded with interests especially for the news of conflict, because it contains a high value news. This study aimed to determine the focus on post disaster situations on Kompas news, and how Kompas taking up the post-conflicts on Padang earthquake within community through text message construction. This study is focused on the news text in the Kompas Daily that contain post earthquake conflict during October, 2009, and will be analyzed using critical discourse analysis of Teun Van Dijk's three levels of analysis methods. Seen from the analysis result of post-disaster conflict news text that occurred in Padang, the post- disaster conflict news had conducted by Kompas daily with a great caution. News themes of conflict that raised were not presented the opinion of both parties who are in conflict in the same text news. From the social analysis of this research, conflicts regarding to natural disaster relief as happened in West Sumatra were included in the conflict caused by differences in the aspirations between parties, which led to negative attitudes and perceptions to other party. While the result of social cognition analysis to Kompas, found that past experiences lead Kompas applying style crab journalism that being cautious, especially in conflict review. Kompas Daily also apply transcendental humanism principles to make it accepted by all parties. Moreover, the presence of Standardization Language team (BP) that standardize the language, makes the language style used by Kompas become more delicate and polite. In the earthquake disaster that occurred in Padang, the conflict was happened vertically, between the community and government caused by the unequal distribution of aid. By the factors, conflicts are often caused by the process of social change are not equally experienced by people in the community structure, the social changes experiencing by the post-disaster community are caused by unexpected pressure beyond human capability as well as the factor of interest (of the government/ authorities) which further leads to survival instinct. But apparently behind the process of social change that led to conflict, post-disaster conflict was caused by the society attempts to get back the means of production due to the changing mode of production caused by natural disasters. This effort makes a vertical conflict between the government as a resource owners and the community as a group that does not have the resources, which leads to collective action such as protests against the policies of aid distribution that are deemed unfair. Keywords : Disasters, Conflicts, Critical Discourse Analysis

This article is a result of critical discourse analysis (CDA) to the news entitled Gerakan #2019GantiPresiden di Antara Ambiguitas Hukum dan Syahwat Politik at Kompas.com. The approach employed in this research is the three-dimensional CDA developed by Norman Fairclough. The purposes of this research are to describe the micro, mezzo, and macro as well as the social, political and cultural situation from the linguistic aspects in Gerakan #2019GantiPresiden di Antara Ambiguitas Hukum dan Syahwat Politik text. The results show that there are linguistic aspects in the form of diction in the direct sentences that are used by Kompas.com with the theme #2019GantiPresiden. This movement is considered as a constitutional movement indicated as a rebellion because it is supported by political interests towards their current government rival. This is closely related to the background of Kompas.com as a pro-government online mass media. It is also acceptable if Kompas.com creates a positive image of the current government. The main point of information that is conveyed in the news of #2019GantiPresiden is that this movement possibly threats the government of Jokowi Widodo who will run again for the presidential election in 2019.

This major research paper applies a critical discourse analysis (CDA) to examine the Ontario government’s rationalization of full day kindergarten to the public and the underlying discursive representation of social citizenship that the government sets forth. A content analysis of nineteen textual documents identified twelve rationales for FDK. A social investment discourse was identified as the dominant discourse underlying these rationales, while a social justice discourse and a combination of both discourses was also present. A CDA of three textual documents indicated that the Ontario government employed nominalization, modality and interdiscursivity to perpetuate the social investment discursive representation of FDK. The prevalence of social investment discourse in the Ontario government’s rationalization of FDK holds important implications for advancing just and caring early childhood policy for all children and families.

The study compares representations of teachers in the Czech broadsheet Mladá fronta and the British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph, aiming to reveal their possible impact on the level of public respect towards teachers. The methodology employed is critical discourse analysis, combining an investigation of semantic macrostructures and recurrent transitivity patterns. It is revealed that both newspapers call attention to problems regarding the teaching profession, advocating social change and higher job prestige. The social significance of a teacher is enhanced in both newspapers by allocating a teacher not only the role of a transmitter of knowledge but also a moral guide concerned with social issues. The main difference between the two broadsheets is that The Daily Telegraph foregrounds teachers’ wrongdoings, while Mladá fronta highlights teachers’ accomplishments. This seems to be mainly due to the inclusion of a section with regional content in the Czech broadsheet.

Individuals and groups engage discursively in relationships and negotiations as they try to structure and influence the social space where they live. This engagement further constructs the social space through the use of concepts, objects and subject positions. This study examines the representation and construction of failed refugee claimants by the Canadian newsprint media. Through the use of the moral panic as envisioned by Stephen Cohen and others, the study employs critical discourse analysis to reveal complex struggles in the Canadian refugee system through the discursive activity of the government, nonprofit agencies and social networks. The study concludes that a moral panic has occurred in the Canadian refugee system and has resulted in the enactment of a new Canadian refugee system through the passing of the Balanced Refugee Reform Act Bill C-11), Protecting Canada’s Immigration Act (Bill C-31) and the Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act (Bill C-43).

The place and importance of mass media as an ideological device is accepted without any discussion today. The sovereign states, trying to impose their ideology and world view to “others,” impose the dominant ideology by using the media as well as economic and political pressure. Cinema is like a mirror that reveals the socio-cultural and economic structures in societies and reflects all changes and conflicts. Therefore, the relationship between cinema and social structure is quite strong. At this point, the relationship between cinema and orientalism, which is the subject of the study, becomes important. Orientalism is constantly being reproduced through cinema, which is one of the most effective mass media. In this context, the movie Aladdin produced in 2019 will be analyzed in order to analyze how the orientalist perspective is reproduced with cinema and how the eastern image is “otherized.” In the study, critical discourse analysis method was preferred for the purpose of analyzing the social and political backgrounds of the ideologies in the film.
