The research records of the last decade bring a systemic look, which involves historicity and triggers strategies with perspectives to solve problems and dilemmas that involve the educational context. The article addresses the difficulties that teachers have in integrating ICT as a motivating tool for the problem of the lack of interest of students in chemistry classes. The observation was made with chemistry teachers from thirteen public schools in the city of Manaus in the Midwest Zone, the State Department of Education of Amazonas - SEDUC. The results obtained through the questionnaires applied were tabulated and analyzed using the Likert scale, demonstrating how insufficient this integration is. The implications of this research address the difficulties that need to be overcome in relation to the computational thinking of chemistry teachers, bringing perspectives on the need for continuing education courses for professionals involved with this science.

Redox reactions are considered one of the most difficult chemistry subjects to teach and learn. However, this is an important content that permeates several topics and includes many everyday life-related phenomena. To understand the teaching and learning difficulties of the ‘redox reactions’ topic, a systematic literature review was conducted. Initially, 318 articles were mapped, between the years 2000 to 2019, related to the teaching of redox reactions. The inventoried articles were analyzed to identify, in their results, the aforementioned difficulties. Only 54 presented difficulties related to teaching and learning redox reactions. To analyze these articles, the year of publication, the conceptual/procedural difficulties resulting from the study, the researched participants, and the strategies used throughout the data collection were adopted as categories. As a result, the main participants of the investigations were students. It was observed that the research studies favored bachelor degree as the level of education. Moreover, most of the analyzed studies mainly proposed experimentation as teaching strategy for teaching redox reactions. This study points to the need for continuing education courses for chemistry teachers to discuss emerging difficulties, in addition to proposing teaching strategies to remedy these difficulties. Keywords: education proposals, learning difficulties, redox reactions, state of the art

This article aims to shed light on e-textiles as a fusion of different skills. The empirical starting point is a workshop on e-textiles offered to a group of teachers attending a continuing education course in art and design. The study adopts self-ethnography. Using anonymous reflection notes from the workshop, the article discusses e-textiles as an arena to enhance problem solving through practical explorational work. This involves interdisciplinarity, crafting skills and computational thinking. Focusing on two categories, namely I) material knowledge and sustainability and II) electronics knowledge and interdisciplinarity, this study shows that time is an important factor when exploring e-textiles in an educational context. In e-textiles, crafting, circuitry, programming and sustainable thinking can be combined in an interdisciplinary and productive mash-up encouraging problem solving.

This paper presents a brief case study of the distance delivered Master of Public Administration program at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska. The US Department of Education notes that from 1995 to 1998 distance education programs in the US have increased by 72% (complete study available at http://nces.ed.gov/). Many would say one of the greatest challenges to higher education in today's world is the challenge of distance education, particularly distance education mediated by technology. For years, Universities have undertaken distance education through correspondence courses. Despite the existence of such distance education courses, the fact that they were few in number, that they normally involved only preparatory or elective courses, that they rarely involved whole programs, and that they were normally administered by Departments of Continuing Education made them somehow less controversial.

This chapter examines the history of Negro achievement in education in Illinois. In January 1825 the Illinois Legislature enacted a law calling for the establishment of common schools in each county of the state. These schools were to be open and free to every class of white citizens between the ages of five and twenty-one years, but it was not until the year 1841 that Negroes were given consideration. In the city of Chicago no discrimination was shown against Negro children in the public schools until 1863, when the council passed an order establishing a separate school for colored children. The first school for Negro children was opened by Miss Rebecca Elliott, who came to Peoria from Cincinnati in 1860. In Cairo, the first public school for Negroes was started in 1853. Also during this period, several churches in Alexander County conducted daily classes that taught readin', writin' and 'rithmetic. This chapter discusses various initiatives to increase Negro access to education in Illinois.

Changes of chemistry education post ENEM for students of public schools of Pombal city, Paraíba state

Abstract: Chemistry was always considered a difficult subject to understand and brought with it the aversion of students and also future teachers of the area, who became increasingly scarce, and there is a need for changes in the search for the evolution of teaching. With the proposal of the new High School and the ENEM (National High School Examination) becoming the only mechanism for access to universities and federal institutes, teaching had to undergo drastic changes in order to make it closer to the reality of learners, As they were put in the questions of the evaluations of the MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture). The objective of this study was to evaluate the current teaching of chemistry, including the changes that occurred after adoption of the ENEM, through the students' vision. Ras a1 Khaimah is the most northerly of the seven states comprising the United Arab Emirates and its Ruler, H. H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, is keenly interested in the history of the state and its people. Survey carried out there jointly with Dr D. B. Doe in 1968 had focused attention on the site of JuIfar which lies just north of the present town of Ras a1 Khaimah (de Cardi, 1971, 230-2). Julfar was in existence in Abbasid times and its importance as an entrep6t during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries-the Portuguese Period-is reflected by the quantity and variety of imported wares to be found among the ruins of the city. Most of the sites discovered during the survey dated from that period but a group of cairns near Ghalilah and some long gabled graves in the Shimal area to the north-east of the date-groves behind Ras a1 Khaimah (map, FIG. I) clearly represented a more distant past.
