Purpose: Students’ satisfaction is an essential element in higher education. This study aimed to identify paths and predictive power of students’ satisfaction during team-based learning (TBL) activities in the faculty of life sciences using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).Methods: In 2018–2019, at the University of Sussex (Falmer, UK), 180 life science students exposed to TBL were invited to participate in the study. Team-Based-Learning-Student-Assessment-Instrument was used. A conceptual model was developed for testing six hypotheses. H1: What was the effect of TBL on student satisfaction? H2: What was the effect of lectures on student satisfaction? H3: What was the effect of TBL on accountability? H4: What was the effect of lectures on accountability? H5: What was the effect of accountability on student satisfaction? H6: What were the in-sample and out-of-sample predictive power of the model? The analysis was conducted using the PLS-SEM approach. Results: Ninety-nine students participated in the study giving a 55% response rate. Confirmatory tetrad analysis suggested a reflective model. Construct reliability, validity, average extracted variance, and discriminant validity were confirmed. All path coefficients were positive, and 5 were statistically significant (H1: β=0.587, P<0:001; H2: β=0.262, P<0.001; H3: β=0.532, P<0.001; H4: β=0.063, P=0.546; H5: β=0.200, P=0.002). The in-sample predictive power was weak for Accountability, (R2=0.303; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.117–0.428; P<0.001) and substantial for Student Satisfaction (R2=0.678; 95% CI, 0.498–0.777; P<0.001). The out-of-sample predictive power was moderate. Conclusion: The results have demonstrated the possibility of developing and testing a TBL conceptual model using PLS-SEM for the evaluation of path coefficients and predictive power relative to students’ satisfaction.

One of the main objectives of the Undergraduate Dissertation is to evaluate the skills associated with a degree. Student satisfaction with the training and skills acquired can be an indicator of the quality of higher education. This paper aims to analyse student satisfaction with Undergraduate Dissertation at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Based on a survey conducted among 130 students (75.7% of a total of 172 students who presented their UD during the academic year 2013–2014), structural equation modelling was applied to analyse the influence on satisfaction of aspects related to intellectual curiosity and the perception of acquired skills. The results show that the perception of the skills acquired play a crucial role in students’ satisfaction with Undergraduate Satisfaction, conditioned by their perceived future usefulness and backed by personality and motivation elements that encourage their acquisition. The results confirm the significant role played by the tutor, who emerges as an element that boosts the central relations of the model.

Background and Purpose: Most research on Dual Language Programme (DLP) in Malaysia mainly focused on the teachers’ perceptions or challenges faced in implementing the programme in schools and only a few concentrated on the receiver of this programme – the students. Therefore, this study seeks to address this gap by examining factors which affect students’ satisfaction of DLP programme.   Methodology: In this study, 105 DLP students from secondary schools in Pekan, Pahang, a state in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, answered a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The questionnaire was first assessed by experts and after that, went through a pilot test. The Cronbach’s Alpha value recorded was 0.862. The data obtained were then analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM).   Findings: Findings indicate that the path coefficient of readiness to interest, readiness to confidence, and interest to student satisfaction are significant. However, the path coefficient for confidence and readiness to student satisfaction were not significant since p-value > 0.05. In testing mediation, interest did mediate the relationship between readiness and student satisfaction with full mediation while confidence did not mediate the relationship between readiness and student satisfaction. Contributions: The contributions of this study lie in its empirical findings in understanding students’ satisfaction towards DLP programme in Malaysia. Additionally, it suggests the need for pragmatic and humanistic pedagogy in teaching Science and Mathematics in English.   Keywords: Dual language programme (DLP), student satisfaction, Structural Equation Modelling, mediation, Science and Mathematics in English, Malaysia.   Cite as: Masrom, U. This paper investigates the critical determinants for the adoption of mobile commerce (m-commerce) in Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the perspective of managers. A perception-based conceptual model is developed with respect to the technology-organization-environment framework. The conceptual model is then tested and validated using structural equation modelling on the data collected from 513 SMEs in Vietnam. The study shows that perceived benefits, perceived compatibility, perceived security, perceived organizational readiness, and perceived customer pressures are critical for the adoption of m-commerce. As the first study on the critical determinants for m-commerce adoption in Vietnam, these findings are useful for SME managers as well as policymakers in designing policies as strategies to promote the wide development and diffusion of m-commerce in SMEs in Vietnam and other developing countries.

The global Muslim tourists' expenditure on gastronomy products is on the rise. However, to date few studies were conducted to empirically determine the behaviour of the Muslim tourists' especially from the Middle East countries towards Malaysian gastronomy. Therefore, the key purpose of the present study was to empirically determine the Middle East tourists' behaviour towards their dining experience in Malaysia by employing the basis of means-end model approach. The proposed conceptual model of this study was tested using structural equation modelling analysis. The findings revealed that gastronomy attributes, dining quality and overall satisfaction of dining experience were significant positive predictors of the Middle East tourists' behavioural intention. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed and this paper ends with some suggestions for future research.

Purpose The covid-19 pandemic that hit the world has caused several changes in the higher education service sector, including the implementation of the undergraduate thesis examination, where direct interaction between students and examiners is avoided and replacing it with an online bachelor thesis exam. This study aims to develop a conceptual model regarding the variables that can affect student satisfaction with the quality of the implementation of online undergraduate thesis examinations in higher education. Design/methodology/approach The research instrument consisted of 22 survey questions distributed to 583 students taking the thesis trial examination in the even semester of 2019/2020 who came from 12 different study programs. Factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were conducted to analyze the validity of the instrument and test the hypothesis. The results of the analysis show that the 22 instrument items used have been determined by sufficient variables to check the structure of each. Findings SEM analysis results show that the three hypothesized variables (study program service, examiner performance and quality of video conference applications) positively and significantly affect the level of student satisfaction with the online undergraduate thesis examination 0.187, 0.177 and 0.177, respectively. The total effect of these three factors is 0.737. Research limitations/implications This finding is a reference for those who want to improve the quality of the online undergraduate thesis examination in higher education. Originality/value As the online thesis examination was implemented in higher education in Indonesia as a result of the implementation of the study and work at home policy by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, it is important to conduct research on the implementation of online thesis exams in Indonesia, especially to study the conceptual model of variables affect student satisfaction with the implementation of the online thesis exam. Because even though the implementation of online thesis exams on a large scale is new to some higher education in Indonesia.

BACKGROUND Offenders with personality disorder can be challenging to engage and retain in treatment. The UK offender personality disorder (OPD) pathway aims to proactively and responsively identify and engage offenders with personality disorder. However, a sub-population of offenders on the pathway have been found to not be accepted into any OPD service and therefore fail to progress. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to identify and describe offenders on the OPD pathway who fail to progress as well as understand the causal drivers by which individuals fail to progress in the pathway. METHODS A sample of 50 offenders on the OPD pathway who had been refused from at least two OPD services (non-progression group) were compared to 100 offenders accepted into OPD services (control group). Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to model the causal factors involved in not being accepted into OPD services. RESULTS The path coefficients in the structural model showed that the most influential factor in non-progression was attitude towards treatment (β = 0.41, P <.001, f2 = 0.25) alongside those with psychopathology (β = 0.41, P <.001, f2 = 0.25); specifically, psychopathy, psychosis and co-occurring personality disorder. CONCLUSIONS The findings of the study provide a basis of how to work with this population in the future to increase the likelihood of acceptance into OPD services.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual model for exploring the recall and recognition of embedded advertisements of sponsors.Design/methodology/approachTo verify the proposed conceptual model on a particular sports competition, a questionnaire related to the UEFA Champions League sponsors in the season 2016/2017 was designed. The data were analysed using structural equation modelling.FindingsThe results provided support to the claim that higher involvement in a sport and higher exposure to a sponsored event lead to higher recall and recognition of embedded advertisements. Conversely, the same two factors alongside sponsor awareness do not affect the attitude towards sponsors. On the other hand, sponsor awareness and attitude towards sponsors have a direct positive role on the future purchase intention of sponsor products/services.Practical implicationsThe findings illustrate that to maximise the effectiveness of their embedded advertisements, sponsors should not merely concentrate on brand awareness, but should go beyond and attempt to improve the consumers’ positive perception of their products and services. Moreover, by sponsoring a sport event, the sponsors can be sure that their message will be effectively transmitted to the ones who are fans of the sport and the sponsored competition.Originality/valueThe present study empirically explores the factors which influence the recall and recognition of embedded advertisements and how the achieved level of sponsorship awareness impacts purchase intentions.

The purpose of this research is to describe the effects of intellectual capital (IC) and Absorptive Capacity (ACAP) on Innovation capability (INC). Through a comprehensive literature review constructs were developed. Structural equation modelling (SEM) used to test research hypotheses based on a sample of 160 top and middle managers of SAIPA Company in Tehran. The data collection instrument of this research was standard questionnaire. The reliability of this questionnaire was proved by Cronbach’s [Formula: see text]. The results showed that IC have a significant effect on ACAP and innovation capability. Path coefficients of human capital (HC) and potential ACAP (0.40) showed that HC have a biggest impact on potential ACAP than organisational capital (OC) and social capital. Also path coefficients of OC and actualised ACAP (0.30) showed that OC have a biggest impact on actualised ACAP than HC and social capital. Finally, loading of product innovation (PR INV) was 0.50 and it showed that PR INV is the best variable and measurement for describing INC in SAIPA Company.
