BACKGROUND: Helicopter hoist operators are highly skilled and critical crewmembers in search and rescue. However, hoist operator training programs are relatively underdeveloped in comparison to helicopter pilot training. It is critical that this simulator teaches the necessary skills for high-level performance given the dangers associated with helicopter hoist operation. As a result, we sought to validate and identify critical aspects of skilled hoisting.METHODS: Through expert consultation, we identified several measures of hoist operation, such as mission time, cable plumb, cable tension, cable hand position, and cable displacement. We compared hoist performance between experienced and novice hoist operators in a simulated hoisting mission with two levels of difficulty (with and without wind). The experienced group (eight men/one woman) was composed of nine active or former military hoist operators who were working in commercial search and rescue. The novice group was composed of seven subjects (two men/five women) from the general population and had no previous experience with hoisting operations or the simulator.RESULTS: We found that experienced hoist operators had faster mission time, similar cable plumb, lower tension, and less variable hand position. Further, experienced hoist operators pulled the cable inward in the wind while novice hoist operators pushed the cable away.DISCUSSION: These findings suggests that this simulator captures performance differences between skill levels and, as a result, is a first step supporting the use of this simulator for hoist operator training.King MT, Lenser S, Rogers D, Carnahan H. Recently, there has been significant growth in the popularity of cloud computing systems. One of the main issues in building cloud computing systems is task scheduling. It plays a critical role in achieving high-level performance and outstanding throughput by having the greatest benefit from the resources. Therefore, enhancing task scheduling algorithms will enhance the QoS, thus leading to more sustainability of cloud computing systems. This paper introduces a novel technique called the dynamic round-robin heuristic algorithm (DRRHA) by utilizing the round-robin algorithm and tuning its time quantum in a dynamic manner based on the mean of the time quantum. Moreover, we applied the remaining burst time of the task as a factor to decide the continuity of executing the task during the current round. The experimental results obtained using the CloudSim Plus tool showed that the DRRHA significantly outperformed the competition in terms of the average waiting time, turnaround time, and response time compared with several studied algorithms, including IRRVQ, dynamic time slice round-robin, improved RR, and SRDQ algorithms.

Introduction. The article discusses the features of self-esteem in taekwondo athletes of various skill levels and gender. The important role of diagnostics of the level of self-esteem of taekwondo athletes in the process of purposeful preparation of athletes for international competitions is pointed out. The interrelation of self-esteem with the effectiveness of competitive activity of qualified taekwondo athletes is shown.Aim is to study the level of self-esteem of taekwondo athletes of various qualifications and to establish its relationship with the effectiveness of training and competitive activity of athletes.Material and methods: analysis of literary sources and Internet, expert survey, pedagogical observation,methods of psychodiagnostics, methods of mathematical statistics.Results. It was found that more experienced taekwondo athletes who train in the second and more Olympic four-year cycle have a higher level of self-esteem in comparison with young athletes who are preparing for the Olympic Games for the first time. The lowest level of self-esteem (63.10 ± 11.34, p<0.05) was observed in young athletes who are preparing for the first time for responsible international competitions.Experienced male and female athletes had approximately the same high level of self-esteem manifestation (p> 0.05). Statistically significant correlations between the level of self-assessment of taekwondo athletes and the effectiveness of their competitive activity were established. Athletes with a higher level of self-esteem were distinguished by higher rates of impact efficiency (%) during performance in real competition conditions. Conclusion. The importance of research and further correction of the level of self-esteem of taekwondo athletes in the process of training athletes in the framework of four-year Olympic cycles is emphasized.

This paper presents a systematic methodology for the generation of high-level performance models for analog component blocks. The transistor sizes of the circuit-level implementations of the component blocks along with a set of geometry constraints applied over them define the sample space. A Halton sequence generator is used as a sampling algorithm. Performance data are generated by simulating each sampled circuit configuration through SPICE. Least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) is used as a regression function. Optimal values of the model hyper parameters are determined through a grid search-based technique and a genetic algorithm- (GA-) based technique. The high-level models of the individual component blocks are combined analytically to construct the high-level model of a complete system. The constructed performance models have been used to implement a GA-based high-level topology sizing process. The advantages of the present methodology are that the constructed models are accurate with respect to real circuit-level simulation results, fast to evaluate, and have a good generalization ability. In addition, the model construction time is low and the construction process does not require any detailed knowledge of circuit design. The entire methodology has been demonstrated with a set of numerical results.

This research studied the coaches’ perceptions of the innovation programs of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) during 2016-2020. The RFET is one of the most relevant national federations in Spain both in terms of results at the highest levels of the game as well as in terms of participation and grassroots tennis. Coaches are considered relevant stakeholders of any sport federation due to their role in delivering the sport. A 29-item questionnaire adapted to tennis was completed by 132 certified coaches RFET members which had different years of experience and coached players of various skill levels. Results showed significant differences between the coaches with more than 20 years of experience as they perceived more rivalry between regional federations in the access to grants and more international competitiveness at high-level tennis as compared to their less experienced colleagues. Coaches also considered that the COVID-19 pandemic had negatively affected the innovation strategy and capability of the organization. They identified a grassroots initiative and a coach education project as the two most valued innovative programs implemented by the RFET in the period. These last findings coincide with those from previous research and highlight the relevance of providing coaches with clear player development guidelines and opportunities for continuous professional development through education. It can be concluded that federation leaders should consider the coaches’ perceptions on their innovation programs. This will assist them to better provide initiatives that will satisfy their needs and improve the effectiveness of their federations.

Abstract We consider a design advisor to be performance-intelligent when its suggestions do not conflict with high level performance-related goals of the design under study. We address the problem of representing non-domain-specific design Information at a high level and describe coupling it to the inputs and outputs of design critics and their suggestion mechanisms. High level design Information represented in a function-based structure with linked allocations is shown to interact with a domain-specific design critic in three instances, viz.: allocation refinement, goal matching with a supported function, and performance-intelligent tradeoffs. Examples of manual and computer-based procedures are discussed.

The objective of this research was to establish the current image of training and development consultancy in South Africa in relation to the ideal as perceived by their clients. In view of the critical shortage of high-level manpower it was considered important to establish whether this service sector is effectively assisting organizations in developing their management to the required skill levels. Based on a survey of the literature on previous image studies, the research methodology combined the measurement of image by using a structured questionnaire with unstructured, subjective comment to arrive at a conclusion. The Repertory Grid technique was used to generate constructs for the semantic differential scale used in the questionnaire. This questionnaire was administered to training/personnel officials of a sample of manufacturing companies in the PWV area The responses to the questionnaire were analysed by means of basic descriptive statistics, factor analysis and t tests. Certain image dimensions were highlighted, and the results showed that numerous discrepancies existed between the image of training and development consultants and the perceived ideal. It was concluded that in order to effectively assist in alleviating the shortage of high-level manpower, training and development consultants should strive towards improving their analysis of problems, the correct identification of training needs and the customization of the training programmes to match specific South African corporate and cultural needs.

This study investigates the effectiveness of online task support (the wizard type in particular) relative to instructor-led training, and explores the underlying cognitive process in terms of the development of mental models. Ninety-two novice users of Microsoft Access were either trained by an experienced instructor or performed exercises with online task support, and then completed a variety of performance-based tests. Analysis shows that users of online task support tended to outperform instructor-trained individuals on high-level tasks, whereas the performance difference on low-level tasks was not significant. The cognitive processes underlying the difference are also noteworthy. Task support users were more likely to develop conceptual mental models as opposed to procedural ones, which accounted for their better high-level performance. Mental model completeness was also found to be closely associated with performance on both low and high-level tasks. These findings offer support for increased use of online task support.

Strength, conditioning, and nutrition play an important role in preparing athletes to perform to the best of their ability. For this reason, nearly all competitive teams employ strength and conditioning specialists to prepare their athletes for competition, and most teams have sport dietitians and/or nutrition consultants as part of their performance-enhancement team. Academic and professional preparation of strength and conditioning and sport-nutrition specialists in kinesiology programs has opened up a number of career opportunities for students and scholars. In addition, advances in technology have enhanced the ability of strength and conditioning specialists and sport nutritionists to monitor athletes during training and competition. This paper provides an overview of the history, professional preparation, program components, and general principals of strength and conditioning and sport nutrition and the impact they have had on high-level performance, as well as future trends in these fields.
