INTRODUCTION: A total ankle replacement in a jet pilot after an open, high-energy foot and ankle fracture and dislocation with talar extrusion in a plane crash was carefully evaluated before considering fitness to fly.CASE REPORT: A 33-yr-old male test pilot of the Italian Air Force was involved in a plane crash and reported an open high-energy fracture/dislocation of the right ankle, with the expulsion of the right talus due to the impact, and other fractures. A titanium replica was inserted inside the ankle. However, the patient suffered from intolerable pain and developed arthritic changes in the cartilage of the tibial plafond. For these reasons, a decision was made to perform a custom-made total ankle replacement.DISCUSSION: The 2-yr follow-up after the last operation and the evaluation of the pilot’s fitness to fly are reported in this case study. The transportation and distribution (T&D) of nascent informal sectors, it is important to have a good performance in operations. In order to achieve high performance, it is necessary to know which operational factors are critical for success and which are less important. Only then can management focus attention on those factors that have a strong effect on performance. In The India a large project has been carried out to find these critical operational success factors. The progress in techniques and management principles improves the moving load, delivery speed, service quality, operation costs, the usage of facilities and energy saving. Transportation takes a crucial part in the manipulation of logistic. The objective of study is the impact on GDP from logistics savings. To measure efficiency gains of drivers in logistics savings, to study the effect of efficiency gains on nominal GDP. The study is case study method adopted based on secondary data and it is concluded that the GDP impact on efficiency gains of transportation and distribution of nascent informal sectors in India exhibited that customers’ final bill remains same; Transport company’s profits go up and customer takes away all the savings

This chapter examines issues surrounding the human rights of Indigenous peoples. The conceptual framework for this chapter is informed by three broad, interrelated, and interdependent types of human rights: the right to existence, the right to self-determination, and individual human rights. After describing who Indigenous peoples are according to international law, the chapter considers the centuries of ambivalence about the recognition of Indigenous peoples. It then discusses the United Nations's establishment of a regime for Indigenous group rights and presents a case study of the impact of climate change on Indigenous peoples. It concludes with a reflection on the possibility of accommodating Indigenous peoples' self-determination with state sovereignty.

Purpose The researchers wanted to examine the mediating factors operating in the “black box” between HPWS and employee outcomes. Design/methodology/approach The authors obtained their data from a variety of customer-contact employees, such as front desk agents, food servers and concierges, in four and five-star hotels in the Romanian cities of Sibiu and Bucharest. They sent out questionnaires measuring psychological capital, such as self-reliance, hope, resilience and optimism, as well as work engagement, creative performance and extra-role performance. Supervisors were also asked their opinions. Findings The analysis of customer-contact employees and their supervisors in the Romanian hotel industry suggested that psychological capital and work engagement were the two most important factors operating in the “black box” between HPWS and employee outcomes. Originality/value There is great value for businesses in the conclusions of the research. It shows how critical it is to establish various HPWS programs that boost engagement, as well as indicating the importance of providing job security and designing recruitment processes that root out people with the right skills.

Dislocation of the hip usually results from a high-energy injury sustained during a road accident. Inveterate dislocations persisting for many months or years are extremely rare. Selection of an appropriate treatment method is not easy and is always associated with the risk of serious complications. The present authors hope that a description of the course of diagnostic work-up and treatment of a patient in whom a hip dislocation persisted for 42 years will prove interesting and helpful for orthopaedists who may encounter such a case in their practice. The patient sustained a dislocation of the right hip in 1974. He did not agree to undergo reduction immediately after the injury. Initially, he experienced extremely severe pain and difficulty walking, but gradually learned to walk without crutches and even took up a job. The limb was considerably shortened with only minimal movement in the hip joint. The pelvic geometry was altered and spinal scoliosis developed. In the last several years, the patient experienced a significant increase in pain and a decrease in function that prevented him from walking unassisted. Following a thorough physical examination, and based on computed tomography images, the patient was qualified for hip arthroplasty. An analysis of the available literature prompted the present authors to use a cemented implant and not to use bone grafts. Early treatment outcomes are good.

The biggest problem faced by printing companies during the Covid-19 pandemic was that the number of orders was unstable and tends to decrease, which had the potential to harm the company. Therefore, various appropriate marketing strategies were needed so that the number of product orders was relatively stable and even increases. The impact was that the company could survive and continued to grow. This study aimed to assist company managers in developing appropriate marketing strategies based on association rules generated from one of the data mining methods, namely the Frequent Pattern Growth (FP-Growth) method. The case study of this research was a printing company where there was no similar research that used a printing company's dataset. This study produced nine association rules that meet a minimum of 25% support and a minimum of 60% confidence, but only two association rules that had a high positive correlation, namely for a custom paper bag and banner products. Therefore, several marketing strategies were suggested that could be used as guidelines for companies in managing sales packages and giving special discounts on a product. The results of this study are expected to trigger an increase in the number of product orders because this study tried to find the right product for consumers and did not try to find the right consumers for a product.

To ensure high performance of projects, risk factors and their impact towards the environment need to be addressed during and after the construction phase. This research aims to assess the risk factors and the impact of industrial projects to the environment and surrounding areas. The research employs multi-method strategies: this case study includes several interviews, observations, analysis of project documents and questionnaires distributed among the occupants living in the surrounding area. A significant fraction of computational software for scientific research grows through accretion. In a common scenario, a small group develops a code for a specific purpose. Others find the software useful, so they add to it for their own use. The software grows to the point where its management becomes intractable and scientific results obtained from it become unreliable. This is in stark contrast with a small number of scientific codes that have undergone a design process, be it due to an upfront investment, or when haphazardly grown codes have reset and started again. At a minimum, these codes reduce the time to obtain research results for the communities they serve because individual researchers do not have to develop their own codes. They provide further benefits; the results they produce are more reproducible due to greater scrutiny, leading to better science. One of the more overlooked benefits, which is perhaps of greater significance, is that a well-designed code can expand to serve communities beyond the ones it was designed for. Thus, research communities with similar computational requirements can symbiotically improve computation-based research for each other. In this article, we present a case study of FLASH, a code that was designed and developed for simulating thermonuclear runaways such as novae and type Ia supernovae in astrophysics. Designed to be modular and extensible, users from several diverse research areas have added capabilities to it and adapted it for their own communities. Examples include cosmology, high-energy density physics, core-collapse supernovae, star formation, fluid–structure interactions, and chemical combustion. We give a summary of design features that facilitated the expansion and quantify the effort needed to expand into some of the above-mentioned fields. We also quantify the impact on different communities by mining the database of publications using FLASH, collected by its developers.

Modular endo-prostheses were introduced in 1980s with the intent of replacing custom made implants, which were criticized for lack of intra-operative flexibility, and high lead time and cost [1]. A typical modular prosthesis set may have as many as 200 components, making it difficult to select the right set of components in intra operative stage. An automated prosthesis selection methodology to limit the choice of prosthesis components with a qualitative tag such as: (1) ‘most suitable’, (2) ‘probably suitable’, and (3) ‘not suitable’, will greatly help the surgeons. This article describes a computer aided decision support system for selecting endo-prosthesis components driven by anatomical data of the patient. The methodology is explained with a case study of distal femur replacement.

Why does state violence sometimes fail to crush a secessionist movement and instead facilitate international support for the separatist cause? Based on the literature on the international recognition of secessionist entities and on the impact of state repression against social movements, this paper develops an argument according to which the timing of certain repressive events make them more likely to generate an international backlash and thus facilitate external support for secessionists. To backfire internationally, state violence must occur at the right time—that is, when the secessionists have gained sufficient media attention, put in place an appropriate organizational structure, and have abandoned violent tactics for a nonviolent campaign. Using the secession process of East Timor as a case study, this paper shows how the international moral outrage that followed the Dili massacre (1991),combined with a changing geopolitical context, have boosted the foreign support of the secessionist movement in East Timor and allowed it to obtain important concessions from Jakarta. The main goal of the study was to obtain objective measures of the impact of a complete pre-season of amateur football on the players’ physical activity parameters. 17 amateur football players (24.47 ± 4.53 years) enrolled in the same team agreed to participate. They were asked to wear one accelerometer on the right hip during each training practice. Moderate-to-Vigorous physical activity (MVPA), steps and metabolic-equivalent (METs), among other parameters, were obtained and analyzed. Results showed that players spent an average 54.86% of each training session in MVPA levels, for a total of 100.33 minutes every week (3 training sessions per week). Therefore, this group of amateur football players did not meet the requirements to obtain health benefits from their physical activity program: amateur football. This finding could be considered noteworthy because there are thousands of adults worldwide who play amateur football to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They should be aware that their weekly training load is not enough to help them meet the necessary requirements. They either need more practice time (90-minute sessions) or more sessions. The pre-season training program was rated as “somewhat hard” by the participants, and quadriceps and hamstrings were mentioned as the most exerted muscles
