Digital activities has become the preferred modality to structure leisure time during SARS-Cov-2. It has led to increased use of digital technologies. Mr. A, 23 years old, unmarried male pursuing post-graduation belonging to a nuclear family contacted for management of excessive use of online technologies during the SARS-CoV-2 related lock down period. The clinical interview technique was used for assessing the pattern and dysfunctions related to use of technologies. The case demonstrates the role of online activities like social media, online entertainment, and online gaming to cope with absence of access to offline leisure time activities during the SARS-CoV-2 lockdown. However, there is a need to create awareness that engagement in online leisure time activities can lead to excessive use of online activities in the absence of avenues for engagement in offline activities.

ABSTRACT For decades now, in the context of teacher education, we have been discussing the importance of paying attention to the fast and profound changes both in society and in people’s personal lives, as a consequence of the widespread use of new digital technologies. Yet, not much has changed in schools, where traditional teaching still rules. Students continue to be more knowledge consumers than active knowledge producers; besides, the use of technology for educational purposes remains as either a threat or an unattainable goal. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled educational institutions to rethink the role of technology in education. In this article, we comment on the crisis that has struck higher education and how it has set our institutions and ourselves, as professors and teacher educators, into a deep process of rethinking our past practices and reimagining our future.

Abstract:This study explores social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter in particular, as emergent sites of youth citizenship in Guinea. These need to be understood within a longer history of youth citizenship, one that includes street corners and other informal mediations of youth politics. This counters dominant discourses both within the Guinean public sphere and in academic research that decry Guinean social media practices as lacking, or Guinean youth as frivolous or inconsequential in their online political engagements. Instead, young Guineans’ emergent digital practices need to be approached as productive political engagements. This contributes to debates about African youths by examining the role of digital technologies in shaping young Africans’ political horizons.

The technological revolution of the past two decades has changed communication in contemporary educational settings. Consequently, there is now a wide gulf between the unlimited use of technology and higher education, particularly with respect to digital communications between professors and students. Technology offers college students an array of options to socialize, network, stay informed and connected, but with risks and consequences. As social media use by students becomes more established, educators in higher education are pursuing methods to continue significant and appropriate contact with their audience. Web 2.0 digital technologies convey information and permit interaction with distance participants. Personal use of digital technologies for social media communication is one thing; social media use by professors for communication with students is another. Can social media be used in higher education to improve learning through student and faculty collaboration and are there less than desirable results in the interaction of social media and higher education?

The impacts of digital technologies are gaining increasing attention in the service literature, and a growing number of cultural organizations are using online websites and social media to interact with their actual and potential customers. However, the contributions developed by service marketing scholars show little interest in examining the role of underlying technologies in a particular service experience context, namely, the cultural heritage context and the corresponding visiting experience. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyse how digital technologies, especially social media, can help cultural organizations stimulate customer engagement. To reach this aim, we conducted a single exploratory case study of a communication project developed by the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) to attract their actual and potential Italian and foreign visitors. The achieved results allow for us to show how digital communication tools can stimulate customer engagement in a cultural heritage context.

Although more and more children engage in daily online activities with digital technologies, the roles that online technologies play in children's lives are still understudied. This article aims at identifying the role of digital devices as well as practices in which young children are engaged at home. It also strives to explore digital literacy practices and to research how these are embedded into the family context. The case study of Lithuania discussed in this article contributes with new knowledge about the local contexts and may help to understand the main problems to be further worked upon with on a global and European scale. The research of young children and their engagement with digital technology in Lithuania comes as part of the EC JRC project “Young Children (0–8) and Digital Technologies.” The findings reveal that although children perceive online technologies and the use of smart devices as entertainment and relaxation, they are not addicted. Several factors affect young children's uses and skills of digital technologies, including family constitution and parental styles.

The article deals with the possibility of the usage of the content of social media in teaching the students of bachelor degree programmes in a higher school. The degree of impact of digital technologies on educational process is being followed with the focus on the necessity of substitution of line pedagogic technologies for the active usage of interactive and multimedia means of teaching. The critical analyses of some researches’ visions over the effectiveness of the Internet-resources used in pedagogics is introduced in the context of their studying the information and communicative technologies on the stage of their emergence. The highest authors’ appreciation of the pedagogic value of the Internet resources is highlighted as a high-quality possibility to boost the effectiveness of teaching. The meaning of the notion «social media» is revealed which are both digital technologies and the Internet resources. The types of social media are represented. The timely higher school pedagogues’ interest towards social media is explained as forms of teaching the students of bachelor degree programmes aimed at forming the professional qualities – creativity and communicative skills. The analyses of the usage of social media in teaching is given both of Russian and overseas reseachers. The results of empirical observation of the effective usage of the social media content in the teaching process of the students of bachelor degree programmes are performed, held inside the Presidential Academy, Institute for Social Sciences (Moscow).

The chapter offers an overview of dynamic processes changing the role and place of museums and art galleries in our societies. After many decades of being static displays of things, they are now changing into places of interaction and communication on a variety of levels. The text is presenting some current patterns of developing a sense of collective belonging and also it is looking at the communication processes between institutions and visitors with a focus on the role of digital technologies and social media in the process of preserving, narrating, and sharing the object of art and beauty. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a framework for further research on digital practice linked with contemporary social identities and art institutions that are a significant social institution with public value and the ability to link the local cultural heritage global context.

PurposeDigital technologies have become indispensable in businesses and are gaining attention in academic institutions context too. Digital technological ecosystems provide a platform to communicate and share their products and services to existing and potential customers. Entrepreneurial startups and companies face internal and external challenges utilizing social media technologies to commercialize their business ideas. The purpose of this paper is to identify opportunities and challenges faced by academic entrepreneurs' startups.Design/methodology/approachThis research has adopted a qualitative approach comprising of semi-structured in-depth interviews with academic entrepreneurs’ startups to find the main challenge they face using social media platforms. The purpose was associated with an exploratory type of study and also included a prominent unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and technological opportunism (TO) model. The research respondents were 23 academic entrepreneurs startups who were chosen applying purposive sampling. Respondents were given a set of a questionnaire consisting of close-ended questions that are five-point Likert scale. The questionnaire included various parameters to measure the social media challenges the academic entrepreneurs’ startups undergo in the initial phase of their businesses.FindingsThe study identified that business-to-customer relations, brand, reputation, competition and cultural and language influence digital technologies entrepreneurship. While, the findings discovered the extended research model has a positive influence on academic entrepreneurs' intentions to use digital technologies media platforms. The outcome of this paper has thrown more light on which issues are there in digital technologies entrepreneurship, the determinants and actual usage advantages from UTAUT model and TO model that could be properly employed to solve issues of digital technologies media platforms and the potential concerning the adoption and use of digital technologies.Originality/valueThe study of academic entrepreneurs' startups can be considered original in nature. There is dearth of standard literature in the upcoming area of academic entrepreneurship. Governments are taking initiatives to promote academic entrepreneurs' startups, and the findings will be able to give them a right direction.
