The purpose of this research is -within the frame of opinions by form teachers working in primary schools in Northern Cyprus- reviewing problems faced by the students coming from different cultural backgrounds and reviewing proposals to solve such problems, in addition to considering Turkish grades on foreign students’ report cards to determine Turkish learning levels of them. This study was carried out using a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods as a base to understand the present situation. Within the scope of the purposeful sampling in the research, 40 classroom teachers from 5 primary schools from the Nicosia area were reached by using criterion sampling and maximum diversity techniques. A total of 120 foreign students were also reached. Open-ended questions were asked to teachers through semi-structured interview forms. The answers were interpreted by thematicizing. As a result of the study, problems faced by students from different cultures according to the opinions of teachers were grouped as; educational problems, communication problems, curriculum problems, problems related to family, and general problems. It is suggested to have special language programs for students from different cultural backgrounds.

There are important responsibilities expected from primary school students. The most important of these are the learning of reading, writing and arithmetic. There is a “psychological readiness” aspect besides reading, writing and arithmetic in order to be ready for the school. In this study, among the first-grade students, those who were academically ready were compared with those who were psychologically ready. In this research, screening model is used from quantitative research methods. Screening surveys allow the answers of questions such as “what, where, when, how often, at what level, how” (Wellington, 2006). The population of the research was composed of the children who started to the first class of primary schools in the provincial center of Ankara and the provincial center of Agri in the 2016-2017 academic year. The sample group of the study consisted of 327 students. 80 girls and 75 male students out of 322 students are chosen from the schools in the provincial center of Ankara, and 87 girls and 80 boys are chosen from the schools in provincial center of Agri. While the number of literate students at the basic level is 95 before the school starts, only 46 students are able to link shoe laces. While a total of 255 students knew all the main colors before the school started, only 31 students knew their home address. In addition, 90 students were found to have problems complied with the school rules. 39 students are shy in the classroom.

The objective of this research is to examine the transmigration anthropology, especially about the ability of adaptive migrants in the new location. Many migrants come from areas with cultural backgrounds and of different nature, some from the mountains, the area is water, and irrigation areas. This study analyzes three variables: culture (tradition), motivation and basic skills of farmers, which is estimated to have close ties with adaptive capabilities in the new location. The research method used is quantitative research methods. What research is conducted in two districts, namely Barito Kuala district and Banjar Regency. The sampling method used in this study is multiple stages cluster random sampling. Samples in the study amounted to 320 160 with details on tidal rice fields and 160 in rice irrigation. Data collection techniques used in this study is based on the technique of interview questionnaires and observation. Analysis of the data used is a factor analysis (principal component), path analysis and product moment correlation analysis. The results showed that the ability of adaptive migrants are not only influenced by the physical conditions of the environment they live in a new place, as well as where they came from but also by socio-economic factors and the culture that has become part of their lives.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of e-resources by the Faculty of Law’s academic staff at the University of Namibia’s (UNAM’s) main campus. The study aimed to determine their level of awareness of electronic resources (e-resources) available to them, how useful and effective they found these e-resources, and the challenges they face in accessing them. Design/methodology/approach A convenient sampling technique was used to select a sample of 12 law academics from the population of 17. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research methods using questionnaires and a semi-structured interview guide. Findings Findings revealed that the majority of the law academics were aware of the e-resources subscribed by UNAM’s library, although some were not aware of the newly subscribed international law databases. The findings further revealed that the academics used e-resources for research, publications and teaching purposes, but irregular training, bandwidth problems and limited searching skills hindered their use of e-resources. Practical implications Findings could be used to inform future collection-development decisions, realignment of information-literacy training and promotion and marketing of library services. Originality/value This study has made a significant contribution in the understanding the use of electronic legal resources by law academics at UNAM. The findings and recommendations could also benefit similar academic institutions in developing countries like Namibia.

This article is our third attempt to give out evidence resulting from a large-scale and revealing research that took place in a regional unity of Northern Greece. Our goal is to trigger speculation and dialogue inside the scientific community regarding aspects of foreign students’ cultural backgrounds and their attitude inside school. The article begins with a short theoretical frame, continues with the methodology and the findings, providing quotes that reveal a lot, especially after the recent alarming political upheavals in Eastern Mediterranean and ends with some excruciating questions intended to awaken native people’s conscience.

The study explored teachers’ views on classroom pedagogy and the accommodation of cultural diversity in primary schools in Zimbabwe. The study was carried out in five selected primary schools in Chegutu district. Qualitative research was selected as the research method with phenomenology as the research design. The sample comprised twenty teachers (10 male and 10 female) selected through purposive sampling technique. Data gathering instruments consisted of unstructured in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The study found out that teachers accommodate cultural diversity in a number of ways. Teaching methods employed in the classroom accommodate all learners in terms of varying ability levels. In the teaching of the languages particularly Shona cultural diversity is catered for through providing pupils with equivalent terms in different dialects as well as examples. The teaching of religious and moral education was seen as an area where cultural diversity is addressed through the adoption of a multifaith approach. Teachers were also found to be sensitive to pupils’ diverse cultural backgrounds through utilisation of conducive teacher pupil classroom interaction. The study recommends that accommodation of cultural diversity should transcend all subjects in the primary school curriculum. Teachers need to be sensitised on the ideals of multicultural education through the hosting of seminars and workshops. Book publishers should make an effort to accommodate cultural diversity through provision of examples from a variety of cultures. There is need for teachers to carry out adequate research on pupils backgrounds so as to accommodate all pupils.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between reading habits and reading anxiety of secondary school students. In this research, the relational survey model of quantitative research methods was used. The research population consists of students who study at primary schools in the Palandöken district of Erzurum province in the 2019-2020 academic year. The research sample consists of students studying at a secondary school in Palandöken district, including 358 student participants. The research data was collected using two scales. According to the findings, while the gender variable made a significant difference in the reading habits of the students, it did not make a significant difference in reading anxiety. In terms of other sub-problems, the variables of grade, watching television, and going to the library differ significantly in terms of students’ reading habits and reading anxiety. While there was no significant difference in terms of the mother’s educational level variable, there was a significant difference in favor of the students whose father graduated from secondary education. In addition, it was found that there was a negative correlation between reading habits and reading anxiety of secondary school students, and that reading anxiety decreased when students’ reading habits increased.

Recently, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education has become a focus in the Australian context, particularly since the release of government-initiated reports into Australia’s falling performance on international tests and fewer enrolments in senior school STEM subjects and university STEM degrees. Since student engagement in STEM subjects begins to decline in primary school (Kindergarten to grade 6 in Australia [5-12 years of age]), addressing engagement and achievement in the STEM subjects requires support for teachers to design curriculum that enthuses students and develops their understanding of the role of the STEM subjects in solving real-world problems. To that end, a year-long professional learning program was developed to assist small teams of teachers from each of 13 primary schools in designing integrated STEM curriculum approaches. To determine the impact of the program on teachers’ capacity to design integrated STEM curriculum and on students’ STEM attitudes and aspirations, data were collected using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. This paper presents a case study of one of the participating primary schools. From the 44 grade 3 students who completed both pre- and post-surveys, students’ attitudes and aspirations towards the STEM subjects showed significant positive shifts. Analyses of school documents and transcripts of interviews with four teachers and a group of four students from the school enabled.

Based on family stress theory, this study examined the question of how parents grieve the loss of a baby through miscarriage or stillbirth. Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, we interviewed twenty-six couples two weeks after a perinatal loss. The couples filled out questionnaires measuring individual variables including bereavement, depression and stress, and couple variables including cohesion, adaptability, communication, satisfaction, and partner support. Then they participated in a three-hour semi-structured interview. Ethnographic content analysis revealed twelve themes closely related to the resources, the meaning of the stressful event, and the coping strategies of Hill's ABC-X stress model. The quantitative analysis of the individual and couple variables supported the qualitative findings in that most couples had excellent coping strategies derived from within the couple relationship.
