The article presents a research in the field of case management, experiencing two forms of it: problem-centered case and appreciative case management. For this, an experiment carried out on a six-month period, during which time we verified the results obtained by applying two different supervision models, problem-oriented supervision and appreciative supervision. Based on parallel process, the case management was changed. For this experiment ten cases were identified with various degrees of risk in child abandonment. When the appreciative case management was applied, the studied cases showed better results compared to the cases that were managed based on problem. In the case of services aimed at preventing child abandonment, it can be seen that the classical intervention focused on problem, lasting less than three months, has no positive effect on the clients’ situation. This practically means that in such circumstances, the financial, human and material resources used for an intervention that lasts less than three months are wasted without significant results. The appreciative case management produces tangible results after a shorter period of time by comparison to the classical intervention. This can be seen in the results obtained within the experiment, which are due to the use of the appreciative approach in intervention. Focusing on problems in social work and the attempt to solve them may sometimes not result in their resolution; the orientation towards identifying deficiencies and dysfunctionalities yields poorer results than the appreciative intervention and preserves the problem.

History is witness to the fact that warring factions in any armed conflict often commit several human rights violations like murder, rape, torture etc., and the act of disappearance of person is one among them. While the persons who are subjected to disappearance are the primary victims, the families they leave behind are the secondary victims. The situation makes families of the disappeared person suffer great anguish when their loved ones go disappeared. The phenomenon produces anguish, fear and unspeakable sorrow for thousands of families. Appreciating the importance of social work professionals in helping families deal effective with their life situations the present paper aims to provide a case for social work interventional techniques of Social Support System (SSS) and Case Management to modify and make the social environment conducive for the families to live a normal life.

Abstract While the majority of stroke patients will return home after being hospitalized, this transition is physically and emotionally challenging. We developed a social work based case management program to address these challenges. The Michigan Stroke Transitions Trial (MISTT), a pragmatic 3-arm clinical trial tested the effects of the case management program on its own and combined with technology against usual care in patients recovering from stroke. Patients from three Michigan hospitals were randomized to one of three groups upon discharge to home. The two treatment groups received services from a social work case manager via home visit and telephone. One treatment group also was given training and access to a curated stroke website developed for MISTT. The intervention lasted up to 90 days and data was collected via telephone at 7 and 90 days. Quality of life and patient activation were the primary outcomes, measured by the PROMIS Global 10, and the Patient Activation Measure (PAM), respectively. We compared treatment efficacy by comparing the change in outcomes between the three groups (N=265) using a difference-in-differences (D-in-D) analysis. The mean change in PROMIS scores for the social work + technology group was significantly higher than both the social work only group (difference= +2.4; 95%CI=0.46, 4.34; p=0.02) and usual care (difference= +3.4; 95%CI=1.41, 5.33; p<0.001). The mean change in PAM scores for the social work + technology group was significantly higher than the social work only group (+6.7; 95%CI=1.26, 12.08; p=0.02) and marginally higher than usual care (+5.0; 95%CI=-0.47, 10.52; p=0.07).

The objective of this study was to explore the social framework of bullying using the discourse of the different agents involved. A qualitative method was used (i.e. thematic analysis). We collected information from 25 semi-structured interviews. Four themes were identified: “Descriptive elements of bullying”; “Bullying is a social issue”; “Normalizing bullying hidden behind other types of violence”, and “An integrated struggle against bullying”. This study shows that bullying is a social problem associated with other types of violence. Bullying should also be studied from the perspective of Social Work to generate new strategies and effective social intervention and prevention programs.

The objective of this article is to present the contributions of the users about the social intervention of the social workers of the social services of primary attention. The research is located within the framework of the phenomenological paradigm, using as a method the case study and as a data collection technique the semi-directive interview, based on a script elaborated by themes, on which different reactions were obtained from the people. The results obtained show that the social intervention of Social Work in Primary Care Social Services is based on the creation and maintenance of the professional intervention context, prevailing a relationship of help alliance where emotions, feelings and ideas are shared and a link between the social worker and the user being important for each other. The article provides new information on the social intervention of social work from the narrations of the users in relation to the abuses of power to the user, making paternalistic metaphysical violence evident.

One of the biggest challenges for social intervention is to acquire more efficacy and innovation. The strategic detection of innovation opportunities is directly linked with the research and comprehension of unmet social and economic needs, but also with a profound evaluation of the usual ways to identify and answer to current and emergent needs. The contribution of ICTs, traditionally absent from social work and social care universes, can be very relevant at this level. Therefore, in this chapter, the authors discuss the boundaries and conceptions of (social) needs as a strategic dimension for innovation and evaluation on social intervention and reflect upon the key issues (difficulties and opportunities) associated with the use of ICTs in social work and social care systems.

I'm going to describe the unitary approach, a recent model for social work, and then use the model to pinpoint the place of behavioural procedures.Social Work is — or aspires to be — a profession that carries out a planned change process aimed at helping people who are having difficulty with life tasks. These tasks range from coping emotionally and practically with the birth of a handicapped child, to keeping within the rules of society, to obtaining the basic supplies: food, shelter and satisfying personal relationships, and they require emotional, cognitive and material resources.
