Pure Data's long appeal is partly owed to its visual layout and intuitive mode of use. This might lead one to consider it a useful pedagogical tool, even if it now meets stiff competition from glitzier and more user-friendly applications. In the author's experience, however, Pd's ambiguous location on the spectrum of virtualization makes it bad for teaching but gives it a far more important function for composers. In occupying an uncanny valley between the digital-as-digital and the digital-as-analog, it resists the general tendency of digital technology to obscure awareness of itself, that is, of the digital computer as the current high watermark of a longer history of rationalization. It thus pushes composers of computer music back towards the questions that are at the heart of their work. This dynamic is illustrated by the author's experience of developing and tinkering with a novel technique of sound synthesis.

The history of algorithmic composition using a digital computer has undergone many representations—data structures that encode some aspects of the outside world, or processes and entities within the program itself. Parallel histories in cognitive science and artificial intelligence have (of necessity) confronted their own notions of representations, including the ecological perception view of J.J. Gibson, who claims that mental representations are redundant to the affordances apparent in the world, its objects, and their relations. This review tracks these parallel histories and how the orientations and designs of multimodal interactive systems give rise to their own affordances: the representations and models used expose parameters and controls to a creator that determine how a system can be used and, thus, what it can mean.

The 2019 election witnessed a society that was consuming digital technology .For the first time in the history of India’s political platform the national elections were fought both on the streets and by using the smart phones and social media platforms using the digital technology .The digital media teams of the political parties in the 2019 elections played a very crucial role in trying to tip the scales in the favor of their party .The NaMo app had nearly 10 million downloads while the Shakti app of the Congress had around 70-80 lakh users. But the critics raised the question what if the party that mis-adopted the technology during 2019 is also the majority party in the house that would be responsible for designing the control mechanisms?

This article is part of a broader reflection on the digital drawing and new research metho‑ dologies in the History of Architecture. Aiming to reflect on the concept of Heritage Landscape, it starts from the old monastic structure of Monchique, in the city of Porto, as an experimental labora‑ tory for architectural and urban research. It is known that digital technology makes it possible to reconstruct elements from other eras, whose time has transformed or disappeared. In this context, and using digital drawing, the recognition of the built heritage and urban structures is sought through a synchronic and diachronic interpretation, attentive to the different historical periods and their specificities.

The aim of work was the objective coverage of the 1930s events, associated with the opening of Medical Institute in Voroshilov (Stavropol), revealing the background of its creation, analysis of the problems accompanying decision implementation. Using the comparative analysis method in the archival sources study common trends and patterns of regional development and their cause and effect relationships, which contributed to pauses in the university organization, were identified. The main prerequisites for the institute creation were general tendency to increase the medical schools number in the country to provide the population with medical staff of expanding network of health care institutions; regional features, reflected in the fact that the Stavropol was one of the major administrative, cultural and scientific centers in the region, which had a favorable equidistant position from the cities with already existing medical schools. In addition to that, Voroshilov Medical Institute was not established on the basis of the department or by already established institution transfer to the city, as it has been originally planned by the RSFSR Council of People’s Commissars. Although the decision to open a medical school in Stavropol has been made, the city did not have the necessary areas for its placement. Local authorities petitions on medical school establishment were of adventurous nature, the measures they took were not implemented in time. The university organization proceeded in difficult conditions: academic buildings, dormitories for students and teachers were lacking; premises surrender to medical institute from other organizations was delayed for objective reasons. Thanks to the university administration persistent efforts, with the higher authorities support Medical Institute was opened and began its work. We can not say that with the opening of the Institute the stage of its organization was completed as abovementioned problems had to be solved in the future. Otherwise, liquidation threatened to the university.

Abstract Background: Despite increasing evidence impulsive traits play a role in bulimia nervosa, the latest version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders does not include impulsivity as part of the criteria for this eating disorder. Method:Using Q sort, a methodology specifically well suited to the expression of individual viewpoints, twenty-six undergraduate women split into two categories - women with bulimia nervosa; women without bulimia nervosa - ranked a total of forty-four statements that were reflective of impulsivity. These statements were derived from a multitude of sources to ensure proper representativeness: academic literature, the popular press, various audio-visual media outlets, focus groups and social media sites. Results:A factor analysis was performed that generated two distinct factors that essentially split participants along the lines of a presence or absence of bulimia nervosa. Factor A, called Thinking Through, was characterized by a methodical and carefully processed approach around decision-making, thinking through consequences of actions, and a general tendency towards planning and organization. With the exception of one participant, this factor was represented by participants with no history of bulimia nervosa thus indicating individuals with this eating disorder did not endorse this factor. Factor B, called Negative Urgency and Obsessive Thinking, was characterized by an urge for pleasure-seeking, quick action, a lack of self-control and difficulty postponing reward. Endorsers of this factor often regret decisions made rashly yet tend to repeat actions that feel urgent, despite negative consequences. This factor, with the exception of one participant, consisted of individuals with a history of bulimia nervosa. Conclusion:Such finding provides additional evidence for a pattern of impulsivity in women with bulimia nervosa that is not found in their healthy counterparts. In addition, it provides clinicians treating this disorder a guidepost for a more targeted treatment of bulimia and further enhances the need for impulsivity to be included as one of its diagnostic criteria.

Abstract Taking impetus from a collaborative conversation about writing a feminist repair manifesto, this article is focused on examining radical feminist manifestos, new technology manifestos, and their intersecting themes and influence upon cyberfeminist manifestos. Its theoretical underpinnings include histories of repair and maintenance and the manifesto as technological form. As a practice, repair and theorisations of repair regarding technology take into account invisible labour and create a relationship of care not only within communities, but in relation to everyday technologies. Since this work to write a feminist fixers’ manifesto was inspired by the iFixit Repair Manifesto, the NYC Fixers Collective manifesto, as well as manifestos from radical feminist technology movements, it seemed appropriate to consider and critically engage the function of manifestos in these various maker and digital technology communities, as well as the history of radical feminist manifestos in response to cultural oppression. By looking more deeply at specific historical instances and their function, I aim to uncover the importance of such artefacts to give voice to alternative narratives and practices, to subvert systemic oppressions while at other times reproducing them in their form. I argue that there is power in iterating and proliferating manifestos with a critical stance and work to establish the knowledge-producing and world-making potentials of manifesto writing.

As the volume of digital content continues to grow exponentially, whose voices dominate online becomes more salient. Democracy is at stake in the competition for an audience in the online commons. Digital technology was supposed to overcome the media dominance of the elite with a broader array of voices, but social class is one of the most reliable predictors of digital content production, interacting with both racialized and gendered inequalities. Yet analyzing this form of digital inequality requires a theoretical framework of who controls the digital means of production, not simply a linear model of bridging the gap with more access or skills. This chapter examines digital power relations by tracing the history of online content production inequalities over time, showing how the increasing grip by the ruling class, corporations, and governments – in the wake of algorithms and artificial intelligence – makes it increasingly difficult for everyday people to be heard online. While most marginalized communities never got a fair shot because of constraints over resources in the early and more open web, in the algorithmic era this is even more of an uphill battle. The grip that platforms and their owners have over content creation—and especially distribution—makes it vital to theorize this broader concept of the digital means of production.

AbstractBusiness Intelligence (BI) is a collection of theories, methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that convert raw data into quality information for business purposes. BI can handle a large amount of information that can help in identifying problems and developing new opportunities. In designing and implementing Business Intelligence (BI) concept for monitoring banking product service using reference business intelligence roadmap approach. Business intelligence roadmap is one example of BI development that can be emulated because of its agile and adaptive nature and is intended to support the development of BI. By utilizing Business Intelligence application on transaction history of banking product data, it is hoped able to produce information that can support in giving recommendation and decision making appropriately. Psychological disorders caused by the doctor’s rash words are as common as the side effects of drug. Iatrogenic depression caused by ethical and psychological mistakes of doctors will never go away. Their frequency can be reduced only by improving the physicians’ skills in the fields of medical ethics and psychology. A clinical case analysis based on a famous person’s history of the disease is an effective pedagogical tool. The study aims to present the case of the famous Polish composer Frederic Chopin. The A comparative analysis of doctors’ objective actions and patients’ subjective evaluations of their actions were made based on a study of Chopin’s and Sand’s letters as well as the works of composer’s biographers. This approach provides a valuable opportunity to see doctors through the patient’s eyes. In the fall of 1838, during his rest in Majorca, the local doctors diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis in Chopin. The Majorcan doctors made a serious ethical mistake. They ignored the patient’s anamnesis vitae indicating his phthisiophobia and informed Chopin about the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis and a poor prognosis in a very cynical manner. Chopin wrote: ‘One (doctor) said I had died the second that I am dying, the 3rd that I shall die’. Chopin perceived the diagnosis of tuberculosis as a ‘death sentence’, as a result of which he developed iatrogenic depression. All previous and subsequent Chopin’s doctors used other tactics: they prescribed the correct treatment, but the diagnosis was not voiced. The analysis shows the effectiveness of this tactic: Chopin lived another 10 years after the Majorcan episode. Chopin’s case shows typical doctors’ ethical and psychological issues in informing the patient about the dangerous diagnosis and poor prognosis as well as tactics for building a good physician‑patient relationship.

Abstract Background Major psychiatric disorders (MPD) such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and recurrent major depression have shared neurodevelopmental vulnerability due to early neuronal and sensory defect as revealed by sensory and cognitive endophenotypes observed in our cohorts (e.g. Gagné et al., Schizophr. Res., 2019). There is considerable evidence that a harmonious self-development - known to be disrupted in MPDs - requires a synchronized multisensory perception and an adequate integration of sensory afferences (e.g. tactile, visual, auditory and proprio / interoception) with cognition. Early impairment in intermodal transfer (IMT) and multisensory integration (MSI) may jeopardize a stable and unified self’s and world’s representation and then would undermine self-development and represent a risk factor for MPD. IMT is the capability to transfer a percept coming exclusively from a sensory modality (e.g. tactile) to another modality (e.g. visual). MSI is the ability to integrate sensory inputs from different modalities (e.g. visual and auditory) to have a better information processing. This study shows that impairment in IMT/MSI may be a vulnerability marker in children genetically at-risk. Methods Sample: Forty-four offspring (21 girls) of patients suffering from a MPD and thus genetically at-risk for MPD (GatR) aged from 9–15 years old (mean age = 12.06) were recruited from the cohort study INTERCEPT through the HoPE program of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale. Twenty-five controls (19 girls) with no family history of MPD and no DSM-V disorder aged from 9–15 years old (mean age = 12.87) were recruited using advertisements or control bank. IMT Task: Each condition has 12 trials and the shapes are hidden from sight during palpation. MSI Task: - Simple reaction time (RT) task comprising 80 trials with unimodal stimuli (Auditory OR Visual) and 40 trials with AV (Auditory and Visual simultaneously) multimodal stimuli presented randomly. Results IMT task: When compared to controls, GatR were impaired in the three conditions (T-T: 9.77 vs. 10.32, T-V: 9.89 vs. 9.96, V-T: 9,11 vs. 9.92) with significant impairments both for T-T (t(60.53) = 2.18, p = 0.017) and V-T (t (57.28) = 2.33, p = 0.012) conditions. MSI task: GatR showed a deficit in MSI for almost all RT ranges (except for a peak at 185 ms), while control participants showed MSI facilitation for ranges from 150 to 200 ms. Discussion Developmentally genetically high-risk children would show significant impairments both in IMT and MSI that might enter into the group of indicators of brain dysfunctions, or risk endophenotypes, that both children at risk and adult patients carry (Paccalet et al., Schizophr. Res., 2016; Maziade, New Eng J Medicine, 2017). In addition, the two tasks would be valid and sensitive to the early sensory alterations in self-development. Finally, the battery is brief, user-friendly and playful for children.
